Clearing Clutter/Liberating Self

Hope's picture

It's Monday AM and I'm up to seeing if I can get this new Beta site figured out.

Calling all my de-junking and organizing buddies....YOOHOOOO!!!!!

Christmas is coming kids, it's time to get our rear in gear Smiling .

For those who are reading in and new to the TNH site this thread is for the packrats and the disorganized. We are slowly working at giving up all the useless possesions that are sucking the life out of us, and organizing what we need to keep. A tiny effort each day makes a big difference.

Myself, I am a once upon a time Flybaby. I found I was having trouble keeping up with the routines as I'm in the middle of whole house renovations. I also have waaaay to much stuff in my way. My hope is to get rid of all my surplus possesions, get my renos finished, and get back to being a Flybaby. It will take some time.

It is feeling real good to get rid of all the things in this house that don't please me. It is feeling even better to let go of some of my silly hoards. The day will come when I only have to clean and organize the things I need, want and use.

So do jump in and join us if you want some encouragement to free yourself of visual chaos.

Clearing Clutter/Liberating Self

Morning all Smiling .

I'm buried in Monday laundry as usual. My weekends have been so busy I can't seem to get a load in at all. I've got the first of many loads in the wash right now, and am making laundry my one to-finish task of the day. The only other must-do I'm planning for today is to read the newspapers from the last four days so they can get into tomorrows trash pickup.

I want to spend some time back in the sewingroom today to see if I can actually let go of anything in the garbage pickup. I know there is a box in one corner of that room with stuff I don't need to keep. If I was smart I would'nt even open it as I've not looked in it for about 4 years. Obviously there's nothing in there I need. My curiosity will of course open that box even if I don't want to, just to see what's in it.

Anybody else ready to get back at it now that we've had our little holiday? We have 80 days until Christmas!!

New to forum

Hello to all!!!
I am new to this web-site and forum. I hope you don't mind me joining in. I am a full-time homemaker that also works part-time out of my house. Have 2 children, daugter 12, son 9 and very busy husband.
I choose this forum because I have been trying to "de-clutter" my house for months now. The only room really just about done is my DD's (I think that is for Daughter) and she still has a few unfinished projects left. In reading the posts I am glad to see that I am not the only one out there.
I found this book called "Organizing for Dummies" it has helped greatly in figuring out what to do with a lot of the clutter.
Well gotta go and thank you for the chat.

???

I have to think up a subject for every post?!? That sounds like more effort than I'm up to! Is everyone else having to login a hundred times for everything??? It doesn't seem inclined to remember me no matter how many times I check the little box.

Some days are going better than others and I've had quite a few rotten ones. I am staying on top of stuff though somehow. Simply by lowering my expectations probably, and a funny mix of patience and not procrastinating. When I'm feeling bad I have to accept that I can't pick up the vacuum cleaner, or even pick up that tissue that missed the bin perhaps, but I can either get a child to help, or file it away for when I do have a few minutes of feeling okay. And then I don't procrastinate... I have all the things I've been itching to do, and I have to see what I can do without causing myself damage, using my energy as efficiently as possible. One day, when I'm more comfortable, I'll be able to look back on this whole thing and be damn grateful for everything it has pushed me to learn!

Clearing visual clutter both for myself and the kids is still a priority. I even took down the 'Babies' poem I've had stuck on my wall for a few years. Unfortunately my desk is the dumping ground for things that have been decluttered from other homes, but don't yet have new homes to go to! I've come to the conclusion though that the kids must find it as hard to concentrate on things when surrounded by clutter as I do. No wonder they can't seem to hear me, or get their morning routine done in the morning, or follow simple instructions. How inconsiderate of me. So I've started removing a few things from their room, and I'll just keep on removing stuff until they manage to focus on what I'm saying!!! Smiling

I'll find proper smilies another day...

Kerri.

ps. found 'em!

I'm back

Hi, everyone. I have found my way back. It took awhile but I got here in the end.
Not a great deal going on here. The weather has been unseasonably cold, wet and windy. So much work to do in the yard but the weather isn't good enough for a good days work. I have some seedlings to plant, but it just isn't calm enough and I don't want to lose them before they're strong enough to survive. Hope everyone has found their way here.
Bye Sue

keep on keeping on

I think the reason things are a bit slow around the forums is simply because it's not quite as brainlessly comfortable to post as it was. It currently takes a bit of thinking, until we're all used to it, and all the nasty bugs are out and all the rest of it, so the effort involved is often more than can we can be bothered with when we've got 5mins. Ok... maybe that's just my excuse!

I got the recycling out this morning, which is an achievement in itself. I also returned a whole stack of library books, did some very minimal grocery shopping, got some stationery I'd been wanting for a while (inc. a book which I intend to use for the collage exercise idea in Simple Abundance for anyone familiar with it). Even got the washing done, although it took my SIL to actually hang it out. All in all a productive, but careful day.

Tomorrow will probably be nothing much since we're off to visit relatives, and then Sunday is the funeral for my MIL's sister. I shall be conserving whatever energy is available! I'd still like to get the vacuuming done, but with my SIL not working there's a reasonable chance she'll be into that before I can get near it - she has the attention span of a gnat, so she cleans instead of letting herself get bored when she's not working. Shocked

Busy, Busy

Hi gals.

Good to see your pecking again Sue. We're all going to be talking winter misery soon, and you'll be smelling the flowers.

I think you're right about the slow forums Kerri. It does take a little getting used to. I'm finding myself missing things right now because there are so many places to look. We'll get the hang of it though.

Glad your garbage strike has come to an end Kitty.

This is a crazy long weekend coming up so I don't know how much I'll get on here to post. DH has some golf planned for Sat and Sun, and Monday is Thanksgiving. I am doing the turkey dinner this year, but just for DS and DIL and a couple of friends. The rest of the family are on travels or otherwise occupied. Still, doing the turkey at all is a big full day of cooking, and we all know how much I hate doing time in the kitchen. UGH!!! BIG GRUNT!

I've been busy watching the grandbabe today as DIL did some part-time work hours. Nothing much happened at home here. Now it's time for me to come up with a grocery list for this Monday ordeal, and figure out when to slot the shopping in around the golfing.

Gotta get going now. Later then...when I can. Keep tossing the junk gals Smiling .

Anyone still decluttering?

Man, its slow on here. Are we all just busy or is it not being used to the new forum set up? Several of the oldies I've not seen posting anywhere. Anyone know what happened to Jenny and Jamie Lea?

My house looks like a wreck and has for days. I can't seem to get a grip. I finally did manage to clean the kitchen this morning and get a couple of loads of laundry done. Also made a trip to town for groceries which was a task I detest.

Seems too early to be talking about Thanksgiving, but I guess its just around the corner for us too. Enjoy your Thanksgiving, Hope, and don't spoil the baby. Well, okay. Do spoil the baby.

Kerri's picture

More mental decluttering

Well okay, you don't get much more mental than me, but that's not what I meant. I thought I'd share this decision with you, and with any luck you'll hold me to it too.

A while back I started writing down thoughts about what my ideal solo vacation would be. I like being alone, but there are definitely some places I wouldn't be comfortable with, and it quickly became clear that cities wouldn't form part of a solo trip. I also thought about the length of this trip and what I would actually want to do with my time, and of course I picked out some pretty special destinations. It wasn't a plan of any kind... just trying to get my head round the kind of person I am, seeing what I would do if I were gifted with time alone like that. Climate's always going to be an issue for me, so you can imagine that my personal choices weren't nearby... tropical Thai isands aren't really my thing - been there, done that, whatever. And now I'm rambling...

Off the south coast of Singapore is a 'resort island' called Sentosa, kind of like a local playground and tourist attraction - underwater animals, butterfly world, an 18th century fort (that was supposed to protect Singapore from the Japanese in WWII). There are also a handful of luxury hotels (plenty of golf Hope!), some holiday chalets and a campsite or two. I've decided to take a weekend (or weekday equivalent if DH can swing it on time off!) in a chalet on this island, and I've given myself a deadline of 6mths, since I really don't think my health is quite up to me appreciating it right now, even if DH was around. It's a long way from my ideal which included cabins on mountains, but it's out of the city, there are plenty of quiet places to walk, sit, think undisturbed. Weekdays would be better inevitably, since it's semi-deserted (as well as cheaper!), but I'll take whatever I can get! Smiling It won't cost the earth either, so I don't even have to feel a tinge of guilt.

So, 6mths or less. I couldn't pick the right time between Christmas and Chinese New Year and all the rest, so I figured that was the best way. If I don't fix any kind of deadline, we all know it's never going to happen at all! And when I 'told' DH about this we also started thinking about whether or not we could maybe swing a single night for both of us... so plenty to look forward to!! Laughing out loud

There are plenty of other plans in the works too in terms of personal growth... watch this space! Smiling

Actually I'm also getting other things 'fixed'. I finally managed to glue on a couple of door handles and knobs that have been coming regularly unscrewed and refusing to stay on. Well the superglue will help no end!!! Smiling It's good to get those little irritating jobs out of the way. Now all I have to do is figure out a way to keep the curtain pole in my bedroom from falling off the wall and killing someone and we'll have it cracked - the curtains divide up the large space in our bedroom, so the sleeping quarters are separate from the computer and sofa bed, and they also help to keep the air-con within the sleeping area. Unfortunately two of the three brackets are coming out of the wall, and I know that at least one of them isn't going to screw back in peacefully. Not sure superglue's going to help me in this instance though, so I might just have to push it up and hope it stays there till DH gets home to give me a hand next weekend.

Whole new perspectives on decluttering and clearing out the mental cobwebs!!! Laughing out loud

Kerri.

ps. for anyone who still can't get into this site and hasn't been told - you need to re-register!

Getting rid

I'm definitely putting things to one side for charity, but I have to get together a reasonable amount before I consider taking it to the big drop-off bin. I think it can wait until DH is back without too much trouble, although it looks like my SIL managed to find some more clothes from her old fat wardrobe which is good. The only collections around here are when the schools decide to have a project, and it's usually without warning, which is close to useless! I decided to get rid of Irritating Elmo - it's a bit young for them to be honest, and when they do play with it it drives me to distraction, so I removed the batteries and declared his departure. May as well go to someone else while it's in perfect working order (and clean too!). It wasn't a Tickle Me, but it kept wanting to play at various things (cowboy, monster...). Super annoying and NOT bought by us! Unfortunately that means that the bottom of my wardrobe is filled with bags awaiting delivery, and my wardrobe is not the walk-in variety with lots of space!

I keep wanting to declutter certain areas, but then don't know what to do with the things I move away, and they're all ending up on my desk. It's not that I want to throw away the items I'm moving, just empty the spaces and find the right homes for things - mini collections of dolphins, elephants and pewter are the current problems. The pewter looked quite nice in my bathroom for a while, but I changed things and now have no home for it!

I did myself a favour and started looking at the clutter-free gifts over on the Flylady site. Particularly for the kids this is, since they don't need any more toys, art supplies, clothes or lessons, and I was getting a bit stuck. I particularly liked the ideas of getting fancier versions of things you'd normally buy, like toiletries or snack foods. Bedding's another one since I think the kids are due for something a bit more grown-up, especially DD, and I've seen some lovely sets but they all cost a fortune. I ended up with quite a decent list surprisingly, and managed to add some suggestions from other places too. I need ideas for my PILs too, especially with all the extra help they've given me over the last few months! There will definitely be a food hamper involved, but I'd like to do some extra special things too - home-baked items aren't exactly a guaranteed hit since their tastes are so different. And they definitely don't want the type of gifts which create clutter. They aren't ornament type people at all, but they keep things forever and stash huge quantities of paper products like kitchen paper, so I don't like to encourage that particular habit. I do know one thing though... I'm going to have an enlargement done of a lovely photograph taken of my MIL and both her sisters last CNY (2002) and have it framed. I think she'll be just ready for such a gift by Christmas.

Decluttering and paring down comes in so many different guises. There's always some way to cut back on some form of clutter in your life whether it's throwing away a piece of paper, donating something you don't need or getting a job out of the way that's been hanging over your head... which reminds me. I have to make an appointment for a medical test and I'm going to do that before the end of today!

A Task Day for Me

Morning gals....and welcome Zan Smiling . Just jump on in and de-clutter with us Zan, misery loves company.

Today I'm doing the last serious shift of summer to winter clothes. It is past the time I need any sleeveless things in my closet. I'll hustle those items out before I take stock of my winter duds. I know I need to go shopping for some new things soon, I ran really low on sweaters after I put my winter things away in the spring and did my spring toss.

I'll also be doing some more laundry today as I like to wash anything I bring out of storage just to freshen it up.

Then it's into the sewingroom for me....I did'nt get in there yesterday. I'm really feeling like doing some flinging and organizing.

I found some more paper shredding I could do, but it's not urgent. None of the above is really urgent.....I like these kind of days, there's not much pressure to actually do any of it Smiling .

How you doing Sue? Busy in your garden?

Have a fun day....and throw something out why don't you. Let's all see if we can log on at some point today and report on a de-junked item. How about it Fern? Got something to de-junk?

lgunnoe's picture

pressing on

well, I've been rather "off" for the last few weeks....but I suppose its time I joined back in. Its week 7 of HGP

http://organizedchristmas.com/hgpweek7.html

and Christmas Countdown starts a week from next Monday!

http://organizedchristmas.com/countdown.html

My only "must do" this week (aside from school stuff) is to get out the Halloween decor and finish the DDS' costumes. I've had my Fall/harvest decor up for several weeks, but I add a few jack-o-lantern/scarecrow kind-of-things in mid-October. I broke down and BOUGHT Jawdropping! DD8's costume but I am going to make DD13 a vampire cape (black taffeta with a red-sequin/sparkly stand-up collar!)

I'm double-blessing my MIL these days, as my lethargy is taking its toll on the house...must fix that....eventually...

Hi Zan. Welcome aboard!

Hope, glad to know you had a nice holiday....MIL and I are "cooking" Thanksgiving this year, here at the house.

Kerri, its good to see you "souding better." I'd love a solo vacation myself....or even just several hours in an EMPTY house!

I'll try to check in more often!

Gardening etc.

Hi, everyone and a big welcome to Zan. Yes, Hope I have been working in the garden. Tomatoes in, some pots done and a general tidy up. I still have some seedlings to put in but we've had a couple of afternoon thunderstorms so the more delicate ones will have to wait. Inside the house? Well, it's not too bad. I have to confess I have been rushing through the housework to get on with scrapbooking. I like to get on with it while the enthusiasm is high!! My mother has dug out a pile of old photos that I didn't know she had. I've had them copied and am all fired up to get on with a heritage album. Housework, what housework?
Bye Sue

Kerri's picture

I'm still logged in!!

YAY!!!

Hi Zan... you're more than welcome to join us!! One tip for the serious declutterer - don't buy books on decluttering!!! Smiling You can usually get a good choice at your local library, and there is SO much information hanging around the internet that perhaps you haven't seen. Buying books just brings more clutter in! Sticking out tongue

I think the only decluttering I'm going to be doing is of my local Carrefour into my house by the looks of my shopping list! I was trying to build up stock on cans as well (I had loads, but used them quite a lot in the last couple of months) and non-perishables, so I don't have to buy all that stuff too close to Christmas, get it out of the way. Was I the one who said she wasn't going to think about Christmas?? I lied. I'm started. Well... the internet stuff and some basic planning and thinking. I actually think I have the kids' gifts covered in my head, which is a long way from a couple of days ago when I had no idea where to begin. I don't think my budget or the car will fit the shopping list I've created, so I'm going to have to split it up a bit, see what's now and what can wait. I know I'm going to have to go through my fridge too, because there are things in there which a paleontologist would consider old! And I have to get the banana bread out of the freezer so I can make room for meat. My shopping list is also trying to include plenty of high protein items - thank goodness the dairy doesn't seem to be causing too many problems now the medication's kicking in. I'm still a bit stuck though - I remember this problem when I did the low-carbing briefly last year, but that was just a bit of a diet, and this is much more important, so any brilliant protein snacks from the low-carbers (drat it - wrong forum for that!).

I ave to get laundry out of the way tomorrow - should've done it today but I got skewered by a nap attack for nearly 3hrs! DH is going to be arriving home with a ton of washing I expect, although he had laundry facilities last week. He'll also have other things I have to find homes for including sweets and wine (I asked him to get some moderately priced stuff for my SIL because she's drinking it as though it's medicinal and I don't want that kind of attitude near the very nice bottles we have left! Evil ). I have a ton of kiddie bedding to sort out from the other night when I changed a peed-on set of bedding, and DD's too (because it always gets neglected while I do the smelly one!), and then DS vomitted all over his as well, AND my SIL tried to put a clean sheet on top of a waterproof sheet covered in the remaining liquid! Did I say there was a LOT of bedding!?! Jawdropping! I also think a little ironing might be in order, and I want to make up a sausagemeat and apple pastry thing (clears the freezer, gives DH something light and homemade when he gets back in the evening!).

Can you see the difference between me this week and last week!?!?! I'd better be a bit careful or there's gonna be some serious burnout round here! Shocked

How's the HGP going Lenora?? I've started nosing around on the Countdown, looking at the forum and planning which bits I want to print out - not very many for me, just the main checklists and the front calendar.

The solo vacation is more of a necessity I think, not a luxury. I haven't spent any time alone since before I left university, except for a few hours during the day when the kids are at school, and other than this year I haven't really been able to make any use of that time. I wasn't raised in a big family or in a city, so quietness and solitude were always a big part of me and I've lost that over the years. It really does get to the point where I can't hear myself at all over the noise of people and things going on. Even having the fans turned off the other day when it was quite cool made a HUGE difference - that constant whirring doesn't seem like much until you get to turn them all off and hear real silence (apart from the semi-busy road outside and the fact that we live in a block of flats surrounded by many other blocks of flats!). The house I spent most of my childhood in, and where my parents still live, backs on to a large field, with nothing noisier than cows and pheasants in it (the pheasants get pretty noisy, but they're newcomers!) so you can see how the constant noise and demands for attention would eventually get to someone after 8yrs or so! To be honest I really didn't think I could find a chance for this, because I was so hung up on climate and the fact that I couldn't afford to go to anywhere I wanted to go to, simply because of distance. Something clicked though and I realised there was an alternative - as I said, it isn't perfect, but it will give me the solitude I crave for a while, and a chance to do some quiet thinking away from my desk and computer and children and husband and responsibilities. Just me and a pad and paper! Well maybe the Simple Abundance book and my illustrated discovery journal and some magazines too... Smiling And if everyone joins me on this I'm not going to get a lot of solitude!!!! Laughing out loud Laughing out loud Laughing out loud Think about whether you can find something that isn't quite perfect but which will fulfill your needs, something different than you would normally do. Honey can have her parents look after DS, and I'm sure your DH can manage the girls for a weeend Lenora. Hope - you don't even need a babysitter - what're you waiting for?? Just don't make it a golfing weekend, because that would defeat the purpose I think!

Hmmm...

Kerri.

Putzing

Morning gals. Nothing much needing to happen here today so I'm going to have a nice long shower, fix my sad and sorry hair, and do some more decluttering.

I worked at my sewingroom yesterday and can proudly announce that I gave up my stash of fabric scraps. I'm talking SCRAPS!!! I saved anything bigger than four inches. I also went through that ??? box that was in the corner. OH...thats where my chocolate molds were. I wondered what had happened to them. I even made phone calls a couple of Christmas's ago to see if I'd lent them to anyone. And...my electric pencil sharpener....and....my rolls for rolling loose change.
The rest of the contents went into the trash.

Today I want to move my ribbon collection out of there, reorganize the closet(I want DH to put some shelves up in there for me), and move my sewing machines around the room.

I'm still working at shuffling my summer clothes too. It would be real nice to have that done today.

I'm with you on enjoying the quiet Kerri, I also grew up in a very quiet home. My house right now is very quiet though, so the only thing I'm looking to escape from is dishes and cooking Smiling . We have a retreat out in the valley that I've been tempted to try. It's a silent retreat complete with monks(I don't know if they're actually monks but they're some kind of religious). Anyway, you can go there and opt to be silent....aahhhhh....how nice it would be to be alone and not have to offer anything in the way of conversation. For a couple of days anyway Smiling. I have a pal who does silent retreats on a regular basis.

Lenora...you...lethargic????? You're doing classes, sewing costumes and who knows what else. That's not what I consider lethargic. Now..I could show you some serious lethargic.

Sue, it sounds like you're having a good time over there. Enjoy your summer. I'm getting all geared up to enjoy winter, but not to worry, I'll be complaining again in no time. I sure do wish I could just do spring and fall and forget these other two extremes.

Alrighty, I must get off here and get doing something or I'll have nothing good to report on later. Tomorrow I'm going in to sit with the grandbabe so I won't get much done then. Have yourselves a great day.

Zan's picture

Good morning

Thank you for the advise on the book Kerri. I have since learned a lot of things about organizing since buying the book although it was a place to start and my mother got it for me. Does anyone know how to get a project started and finish it before starting another one? I have about 6 projects going at once and can't seem to keep focused enough to get one finished before starting a new one. Although on 2 of them it requires my DH's help and that is a main factor.

I definitely need that one person vacation. My DD12 has Epilepsy and a rheumatoid arthritis disease (the first signs at least) and so its a constant Dr. marathon. Her worst form of seizures happen in the sun and we live in Phoenix were it is sunny 350 out of 365 days a year, oh boy. Last friday we visited 2 Dr.'s and she had allergy testing shots done. Then Monday we finished the allergy testing. Last night I told my DH that my brain was fried. I just want a week (ok 2 days will work) of no family at home and me being able to finish just one project.

Thank you for the web-site on X-mas, Igunnoe. I am seriously trying to get ahead for that and that web-site at least gives me an aim to try for. I already have started and we are doing the most simplist x-mas ever this year. We are taking our own family portraits and then I will frame them and that will be PIL's and my own parents x-mas. I have my DH's on order and one item for DS already. Any ideas for DD12? She is total teenager.

Going to try and get laundry done and house finished cleaned today. In charge of DS's class parties for this year so better get the letter out today (always last minute with that one). DD12 is going trick or treating with friends and they are going as a bag of candy. Each one will be a different type of candy. I love it!!!

Gotta go DS9 needs before school can't find anything help.

Talk to ya later ladies

lgunnoe's picture

Friday

Zan, IMHO, there are two kinds of "projects:" finite and infinite. Some projects can go either way (decorating for example!) Infinite projects go into a completely separate category in my mind, and therefor I don't EVER expect to finish them (and if they need to be "shelved" for a while it doesnt' overly concern me.) Finite projects have a list of "to do's" attached and as I finish a related task, I check it off the list. I can see the progress (ever how small) and that keeps me working toward the goal! As a card carrying member of procrastinators anonymous, Eye-wink I find that deadlines are also helpful! (Craft projects as birthday gifts, scheduling a dinner party, etc.!)

Hope, my lethargy is more mental. The Universe and I are not in accord at the moment, and while I know it is MY perspective that will have to change...I'm not there yet. I'm sulking, sad, and ANGRY ...and wallowing in it, I suppose.

This was "mid-term" week, although I didn't have any actual "mid-term exams." The semester is half over! I have one project to finish this week-end and MUST get working on an outline for my research paper and presentation which are due just before Thanksgiving. I also have to write my personal "Philosophy of Education," and I don't think that the Dept. of Education would appreciate "The more I study education, the more I think I should be homeschooling!" as a response! Laughing out loud

I(we) did get the halloween decorations put up and I planted a couple more mums around the deck. I have DD13's cape cut, but not sewn...I'm thinking about letting her do the sewing....Its just a couple of simple straight seams and some finishing. DD8 wants "paws" to go with her tiger costume...so I'l have to think on that....maybe beige socks with felt stripes stuck on????

I do have to get to Textiles Lab in a bit, so I'm off!

Happy Sweetest Day, to my sweet TNH friends!

Checking in

Hi DeClutterers & welcome, Zan. I haven't checked in for a couple of days now. Course, haven't been doing what I'm supposed to be doing either! Kids are out of school 2 days for their fall break so we've been on the run. Kinfolks in visiting so we had a weiner roast for everyone and I think it got my allergies going big time. Either that or a cold. . .hideously sore throat. Only time it doesn't hurt is when food is going down it and we know that isn't good.

I'm pegging along on the decluttering. Not much going out the last few days, but its on my mind. I keep hoping something will whet my interest again. I'm reading along with you all, even when I'm not posting much.

Monday morning...aaaaagh!!!

Hi, everyone. It's Monday morning here - 7.30am - and I am getting a quick TNH fix before I clean and tidy and do laundry and generally catch up after a lazy, lazy weekend. The most I did was cook a roast dinner yesterday and now I have to catch up on everything. How could a house get into such a state with only 3 adults living in it? One of those adults (DS) worked a good bit of the weekend and still managed to make a mess leaving CD's and books lying around. I am really annoyed with us at the moment. The place looks like a garbage tip and there is no-one else to blame but us!!
Thanks for letting me vent!! Will talk again when I'm in a better mood.
Bye Sue

Monday Over Here

Morning gals Smiling .

I'm right there with you Sue. It's Monday here and we've been running around playing all weekend. Only two adults here and we've trashed the house. I read your post last night and kind of sat up and took notice of my surroundings, grabbed my laundry basket and got a load going and drying and another started last night. It sure made for an easier Monday morning laundry. I've got all the wash done already and it's not even 9am yet. I'll be drying and putting away for another hour or so but hey....that's not bad. I ran my dishwasher last night too and put them away this morning. So thanks Sue, for the reminder of the Monday I did not want to have.

Getting all this done ahead of schedule means I can get outside and rake leaves. I broke the garden tractor the other day...and broke it good. It's never going to run again unless DH does something like rebuild the motor. Thats not going to happen before the snow falls so I'm raking the old fasioned way I guess. Uugghh!!

Are you over your big pout yet Lenora?

Fern, there is no way to accomplish much when you have a house full of family and kids. Not in the way of de-junking anyway. You no doubt did lots just with the demands of family. You can get back to those other projects when they all go away.

My dryer is buzzing so I'm off to shuffle laundry. Later gals.

My office will be done

Hello again,

I have made a vow that my office will be put back together and de-cluttered this week no matter what!!! I tore apart my office back in the middle of September, re-finishing a cabinet, moving my desk, putting up shelves and so on. Well all that happened was the cabinet is sitting in my garage 1/4 way done, my desk got moved and the books are scattered all over the floor. There is a 1ft by 3ft walking path to my desk and that is all torn to pieces too. So that is why the vow has been taken right now as I write this. This way my holiday's will be one step smoother for company. (This room is also my spare bedroom). And one more room "de-cluttered" YEAH!!!

With laundry we are on a 9:00am-9:00pm more expensive electric rate, so I do all my laundry before 9:00 in the morning and after 9:00pm at night. I have a pretty good system set up for that. I have bins in my laundry room for each type of clothing, whites, colors, jeans, non-dryables or specials and one for sheets & towels. These are labeled. Then every morning I walk through each bedroom and get all of the dirty clothes. Then I seperate them in my laundry room. When a bin is full I put it in the washer and get started. If it is too close to 9:00am then I just get the washer ready to go so that at 9:00pm I just push the button and it starts. The same goes for my dryer. Then as things come out of the dryer I hang them up right away if needed. My family has colored hangers, one color for each of us, then my kids can just grab their clothes easily by just looking for the color. They also have bins for their folded clothes and they put those away too. If I know that there is something that is in the dryer that needs ironing then I start the iron before folding and just iron when I am done folding. Also, if I have an item that can't be dried, I put it in a mesh bag and wash with my regular load. Then when I put that load in the dryer I take the items out of the bag and hang up. This saves time trying to find the item in the load and water because it is washed together. This may sound like a lot of work, but it has become so quick and easy now for all of us. No one asks "Where is this?" because it is usually done. My kids even seperate their own clothes, put them away and help with the laundry.

Gotta go, Zan

behind the shower curtain

Zan said: "Hang a shower curtain rod over the middle of your bathtub. This makes a great place to dry your clothes and when visitors stop by just shut the regular shower curtain and no one will see the clothes."

Which is a great idea unless 'Sweetpiv23kids' is coming over!

Too Much Play, Not Enough Work

Hi gals. I have not jumped ship...really. The weather here has been unseasonably swell the last little while and we've been taking full advantage of it. I meant to get things done around the house yesterday and DH phoned from the office and wanted to play hooky and go golfing. I've golfed 3 times in the last four days. It's great to get out while the weathers good, but it sure does'nt leave any time for housework or de-junking. I *can* boast about all the leaves I've raked up in the last few days though. The golf courses should be closing at the end of the month or very shortly thereafter, plus there should be snow on the ground soon which will put a halt to any yardwork. Then perhaps I'll be able to get some kind of routine going around here.

Today? I have a little banking to do, a B-day gift to buy, and a doctors appt. I look around and can see a number of other tasks that need doing, but don't plan on making a mission of them today. I can always start tomorrow off with a to-do list. Friday I'm grandbaby sitting, so I won't get much done on that day either.

You got your office put back together yet Zan? I hope you're finding things to de-junk as you put it all away. We keep waaaay too much paper. I'm so impressed with your laundry system. I'm having a good chuckle over it too....it's soooo organized and SHE don't you think?

I so wish I could have a clothesline. It just isn't practical here. Every once in a blue moon we get a nice breeze suitable for hanging clothes out, but most often it's a hefty wind(blowing dust), or raining. In the winter things would just freeze stiff, never dry. No, a dryer is a must for this gal, and I'd be extremely cranky if anything malfunctioned with it.

Oh, i guess I did de-junk my fridge yesterday. I gave it the leftover toss of it's life. Time now for me to dust the old man off and get him buffed and out the door. Later gals.

kittycat45's picture

sat

Hope ,my dryer is suppose to be delivered saturday,,,I guess I will survive but I'm like you I need my dryer. I hate crunchy clothes Sad I too will get the frozen clothes as its getting cold here. I have to put a load out today but thats it untill sat. My DD13 will faint when she sees I've got her undies out on the line Laughing out loud  guess I'll put them in the middle and hang big towels on the outside. My hot load bag was overflowing so it had to be done.

so Hope you speak alot of golf,,,just how well do you play ?? I can't get the hang of it,,,too much baseball in me,, I swing way too high [yes its a funny site]

guy coming today to take bannister down so old dryer can be moved out and new one in [aggrivating but do-able,,I'll live]

now don'tcha all think I'm a old crank,,,but I dejunked feathers and bird seed,,,,gave 2 birds to a new loving home,,still have one bird but a much less mess,,,,girl was very happy to get birds,,I probley made the birds happy too,,my DDs were not giving them the attention they deserved

Hope's picture

Birds...YUCKKK!!!

I can't stand birds as housepets Killy. Not only do they scare me if they get loose in the house, it's just not a natural thing. I do however love the birds out in the yard. Crows I'm not terribly found of.

My best round of golf has been a 91. I've just got a new driver in my bag so once I'm used to it I'm hoping to break into the 80's. That would have to be a REAL good day for me. DH golfs in the low 80's. Mostly I just like golf courses. They're all green and manicured, with nice little flower beds and ponds and ducks and deer and rabbits. It's quiet out there Smiling , except for the odd outbreak of cursing. If the weathers good it's a great place to kill 4-5 hours.

I'm happy to know you're getting your dryer Smiling .

63 Days Until Christmas!

Wake up! Wake up! Only 63 days till Christmas! Will you be ready? Christmas Countdown starts this coming Monday I believe. Anyone else doing it? I will give it a go again this year since it helped so much last year.

I've already cleaned the kitchen up and am about to fold a load of laundry when the dryers done with it. At some point today I need to vacuum floors. DH has been running around killing maple bugs and leaving them where they drop Barf! . It's that time of year....those dang bugs just love to get in where it's warm.

My bedroom needs a dusting, and the rest of the day I'm hoping to spend in my sewing room. My craft area needs some organizing as I just dumped some boxes of odds and ends there, but I don't know if I'll get to that today or not. I'm in the mood to do some Christmas crafts, so I'd better get that area straightened out soom. One of the tasks with Christmas Countdown is to pull out any unfinished craft projects from previous years and either scrap them or finish them before coming home with new projects. I have a few(eye rolling).

Now that I think about tasks, I could probably move the summer patio dishes down to storage and bring the holiday stuff up. I have a seperate cupboard in the kitchen that I use for this seasonal switch, and a box down in the storage. Works well for me.

Time to get busy.... Christmas is coming Smiling .

Honey's picture

How many days???

Eek Shocked

lgunnoe's picture

...divide by 7 = 9 weeks...from TODAY!

Yep...Hope's right...its coming!

Here is where we are in HGP http://organizedchristmas.com/hgpweek8.html
(link doesn't work...you'll have to cut-and-paste)

I'm not cleaning the kitchen this week, though MIL keeps it so clean that a DEEP clean is not really necessary right now, and when I put up my Christmas decor, all my regular "stuff" gets dusted/washed etc. I meant for this to be "windows" week, but the weather is NOT cooperating on that at all. They are all done except for the top level outside windows....and I may just let them STAY DIRTY!

I'm progressing well on the gift lists...I'm done with the DDS except for their "special must-haves"...whatever those turn out ot be!

DH is also getting a new ski parka..I'm wathcing the sales for that, but have the $$$ ready!

I have everything to make my bath milk/bath salt baskets but won't do the mixing and filling until later...I like the scents to be fresh.

I still need a clever idea for the Girl Scouts....any thoughts?

Had a test today...it went very well. I have one Monday and one Friday of next week, too. I still haven't started my big paper....have much of the reading done, though.....its on Sierra Leone...very sad/awful things going on, and even sadder is that NOONE is fighting for the betterment of the "everyday" people...they're just caught in the middle of self-serving para-military and political monsters who want control of the country for $$$ and diamonds...and they maim, rape, and slaughter the citizens just because they can. UGH! (This is NOT history...this is current events...and we hear very little about it because there is no (financial) gain for the US/UN in intervening...)

(Think I have an opinion on that situation?)

DD13 and I are going to finish her cape tonight as we have THREE events/parties on Saturday!!! DD8's school party and the neighborhood trick-or-treating are on Halloween, a week from tomorrow. I think Sunday afternoon will be jack-o-lantern day...that's DH's domain! I just roast the seeds!!!

Must go thread the sewing machine for dd13, then start dinner!

my dryer

ok I am going to have a hissy fit Sad

my dryer was delivered today at 8:00,,,sounds good untill I tell you it had a huge DENT in the side [eyes rolling]

it looked like a sledge hammer had been slammed in to the side

needless to say I was [am] very pissed

they are delivering [supposedly] a new one Monday

I told them I EXPECT a discount so she says free delivery,,well I was already getting that from a rebate so she says an extra 30 dollars off....doesn't sound like enough to me

I asked her what kind of a company they were running because I had seen a few damaged [bruised] appliances in the store for sale [discount] and now they deliver a damaged one to me ...think she knows how mad I was [is]???

then they had the nerve to tell me they can't guarentee the time to deliver the next one...I told them I had been here today and they delivered a bad one ,,now they were going to go on MY schedule !!
I work untill one and so I told them that,,,so don't come before then ,,she says ok if I am not home when they come they will come back as last delivery.....anyone every seen the Seinfeld episode where Kramer asks for the cable guy to come to his house??

oh well such is life ..I'll live

had to go to luandrymat with fives loads to dry Sad

WHOA!!! - Cool Down!! :)

My antique computer can only take so much and I think you're overheating it!! Laughing out loud Laughing out loud Not that you're wrong... I'd have thrown a fit too, and made darn sure they came on my schedule since the screw-up was theirs. I just hope for your own sake you're better at cooling down afterwards than I am, because that's where the damage gets done. Once you've made your point, force yourself to let it go.

I got my stuff dumped to the Salvation Army at the weekend, but there will be more. The next pile is already building up, of things I forgot and things I hadn't gotten round to. DH is away again, but back on Thursday night, which is quite a nice length of time. Long enough for me to get some things done and not so long that I get to even notice he's not here! Laughing out loud You think I'm kidding... If he was in the country he probably wouldn't be home for 3 of those meals anyway at the rate things have been going, so I may as well get a few good nights' sleep, not worry about whether he's coming back for dinner and still have him around for the weekend.

Definitely on lists this week though. Since he's gone for those few days I get the car for those few days, and there's a load of stuff I put off at the weekend because I knew that and would rather get it out of the way on my own, including hunting up the next batch of workbooks for the kids in December. Don't look at me like that - they enjoy them or I wouldn't waste the money. I got my Christmas Countdown things printed out (I only wanted the checklists and the calendar), I got a box, scissors and glue for my illustrated discovery journal (Simple Abundance), I took my library books back and got new ones, all that bedding got folded last night while I waited for DH to leave (2am flight so he didn't leave until 12:30am) and all I have left is a miniscule pile of kiddie clothes for DD to fold, and the ironing pile's even smaller thanks to DH (knew I liked having him home at weekends for a reason!). And I'm planning... All my new library books were decorating books. The portion of Simple Abundance I'm reading at the moment has a lot to do with clean sweeping the house, making what you want of it, and I'm more than ready for a pre-Christmas declutter, so don't get too comfy in a chair or you might find yourself in a different room when you want to get up! I also have bills to pay *today* before they end up running too close to the wire again as they have for the last couple or three months. Lest anyone think that this means everything is organised around here, they might want to be aware that my desk is still the main dumping ground for all the decluttered-from-other-places things, so it isn't pretty right this second, but hey, it's work in progress, just like me.

And I'm wearing perfume again, at 9am with my nightshirt! Smiling

Kerri.

Onward

Morning all Smiling .

I'm not going to bore you with all the details of my go-go last few days. A gal friend passed on last Friday, after being in a coma for a week. It was sad, allbeit a blessing. She had two brain tumors that could not be operated on.

I'm busy on my laundry this morning, but as I did a load last night it should'nt take me long to finish. I had to haul all my bags of leaves to the curb this morning as the village is doing leaf pickup today. They wanted them down there by 9am....it's 10:30 now and they're still sitting there. We had some snow on the weekend but it's gone now. Today we have a howling wind and wind warnings. I'm feeling nesty.

We babysat for the kids on Saturday night at their place while they went out for a birthday celebration. Sydney(grandabe) is getting to be a real going concern. She started walking a couple of weeks ago, right before her 10 month birthday. 1 1/2 weeks later she's trying to climb the safety gate. She got caught 1/2way up the other night. It's fun....but tiring for us oldies. Hard to believe she'll be a year old before Christmas.

Lenora, when you break the countdown to Christmas into weeks it looks even worse.

Christmas Countdown started yesterday. I'm a little ahead of the game as I had my pages already printed, so today I'm going to organize my craft area and set up a wrapping station. Also some more work on the sewingroom to prepare for the shelves I want DH to make for me for the closet in there. I have a library book that I MUST finish reading today and get back to them. I'm getting sick of those irritating phone messages about my overdo book.

Hang on Killy....new dryer comes this afternoon Smiling .

What's with the perfume at all hours of the day Kerri? Did I miss something? I happen to think it's a wonderful pampering thing to remember to do for ones self. You go!!!!

Going to fold laundry now....later.

kittycat45's picture

ok I'm

good now. My dryer is in and WORKS!!

I love perfume but it has to be certain ones as some make my head crash and burn. I use Cool Water,,my favorite. Jungle Gardenia, any Lily of the Valley. My friend wears Trejor and it smells heavenly on her but stinky on me. Sunflowers is good too. Poisin is excellent. Anyone else have favorites? I agree it should be worn whenever yuou feel like it. Why would you only want to smell good when you have a fancy dress on and going out to dinner...let me see that happens uhhhh once a year!!

Christmas,,ok I will be ready early this year. I already have started making many presents [family likes them] and Mom [ dear mom] has given her check early this year. {I shop for her}

Tuesday Travels

Morning gals Smiling .

At some point today I head into the city to pick up a prescription, coffee with DIL, and get a new company letterhead to update a wholesale file so staff can do some Christmas shopping.I have nothing urgent at home that needs doing so anything I accomplish here will be gravy.

Did'nt do too bad yesterday. I actually finished my library book. I suppose I should drop that off while I'm out today. I got my laundry all caught up, vacuumed, and organized a whole lot of things in my crafting area. I now have my wrapping station ready to go, just need to make sure I have a good tape supply. I did some more work in my sewingroom. I could actually do a sewing project in there now if I wanted. I have *sworn* NOT to start anything until I finish with the organizing. I'm down to some real nit-picky organizing of sewing supplies ie:needles, thread, trims, gadgets, buttons etc etc.....

I'm so glad to hear your dryer is in and working Killy Smiling . You'll probably be on a laundry jag for a couple of days eh?

I'm not much of a perfume wearer. Mostly I have a soap smell I think. I do like fresh bath gels like FA, things that have a sporty or manly smell. I prefer spicy perfumes, but I also really like Allure by Channel. I used to be an Oscar woman and still have some of that around. I know...not spicy at all.

I'm off to run my dishwasher and have a shower...maybe I'll use up some of that Oscar shower gel Smiling before it goes bad or something. Yeah, de-junk some product! Later gals.

Kerri's picture

blah blah...

I posted this morning but my computer crashed!

I hate the kind of perfumes that are really strong and make you feel sick the moment someone walks past. Actually my SIL puts on so much in the morning to make it last longer that anything she uses is like that! I couldn't even tell you what my perfume is - the bottle's plain and the box got trashed (I keep the bottle in a dark corner)... slightly sweetish I suppose, but basically I couldn't describe it. I chose Estée Lauder Pleasures for my SIL, and she has Anais Anais too, which my mother and two of my college friends wear a lot, and my MIL now too! Well I like it, but not that much! I've generally been a soap or deodorant smell person, or baby powder, but what the heck... we've all got a bottle stashed somewhere, so why not use it instead of 'saving' it. As Killy says, I only get the one dress-up event a year (and I missed that this last year!), so it would take me a couple of centuries to get through a single bottle, and I think it's just possible my taste might have changed before I got halfway! This bottle is now 2yrs old... it was a very unexpected Christmas gift from DH the year we went to the UK. I'd sniffed something nice on the way through duty-free, he couldn't find the exact one afterwards, so he got me another one by the same company which I like too. Not a big company... I think it was something like Ghost or... nope, I'm actually dead right. It says Ghost on it, but I'll be damned if I know the company! After 2yrs I just noticed it says Ghost in capital letters at the very bottom of the bottle - it's kind of an elongated frosted hourglass.

Could I BE any more off topic??

I think my 4th load of washing should just about be finished, but it's a single duvet and it doesn't have anywhere to go right this second! And in the meantime DS has managed to pee on 2 pairs of underpants an a pair of shorts, so my bathroom is right back to where it was this morning, smell-wise. At least the big towels, the blanket and the bedding all got dry in the meantime. I accidentally starte cleaning and tidying things this afternoon when I went looking for a free oil burner I got from The Body Shop. It was going to be given away at Christmas, but I've decided to keep it (plain black, square, very zen - it's fine while I figure out whether I really want to burn aromatherapy oils or not!). Couldn't find the darn thing anywhere though, so I turned everything upside down. Not bad considering I dozed off for 20mins or so face down on my bed and was seriously considering setting an alarm and doing the job properly. But then I couldn't find my phone to set the alarm on, and whilst looking for that I found 20 other things that needed doing, then it got stormy and I went for the hot chocolate, basket of decorating books and multiple candles approach instead. The phone turned up inches from where I'd fallen asleep!

I have at least one errand to run tomorrow - to collect my new specs - so it's difficult to know how the day will turn out really. If I'm feeling good I may spend the whole afternoon running around, but if I feel a bit dodgy I'll be back home as soon as the glasses are checked out!

Just to scare everyone... while I was curled up on the sofa bed with my hot chocolate and my decorating books and candles... I had Christmas music playing! Somehow it just seemed like the right moment, don't ask me why. I guess it must be years of programming, because no matter how lazy I feel this year about it I'm usually moving quite fast on Christmas by late October. I think I'll probably address all the cards next week, even if I don't feel up to the insides. No more sparklies this year... I'm not going to be spending hours on each card adding stamps and hand-coloured drawings and stars and stickers and glitter and all the rest of it. Not this year. Maybe next year I'll feel like it again, but not this year.

Clearing Clutter

Well, I finally found my way here. Now we'll see if my post pops up in the right place!

I need to clear some clutter, all right, but I need to begin with a move and name change I think (so people won't know where to find me to ask favors). My desk is up to my eyeballs and I want/need to work on it today. I've had 2 requests for typing and one request to try to find DH quickly to help unload something. He is over an hours drive away. . .like he's going to be here anytime soon even if he does answer his cell phone.

I've gotten a load of laundry done and hung out. One more ready to hang out but first one has to dry first since it was sheets and took up all my line space.

Thanks for leading the way, Hope! I'll find my way around here yet.
By the way, I don't think I could manage to pitch a box without looking in it. It would worry me silly later on.

More ????

Morning all.

Kerri, I'm not having to log in at all. I sneak in everytime through my history though, so that's probably why. Did your Dr's give you any idea when you could expect to feel better?

Fern, I'm glad you found us here Smiling .

Killy? You sent me a message? I'll go see what I can find. I must tell you I seem to be missing quite abit. This is going to take some getting used to. I think I could stand to let go of some old Christmas decor myself, we'll see. OOoohhhhppeeuoooh...a garbage strike. I've never experienced one but I'm sure you would'nt want it to go on for too long.

I don't feel like doing anything at all today and maybe I won't. I got the garbage out to the curb, folded a load of laundry and have another to fold, but beyond that who knows. Aunt Flo wants a nap and she's pretty persistant. I'm just plain ole tired today.

My apologies for anything I might be missing along the way. Until I get the hang of using this new site I'm sure to miss more...just yell at me to heads up if you have to.

Coffee, I need coffee!!! Later gals.

Honey's picture

Buried in a pile of paper

It seems to keep me signed in - except one time last week I had to sign in. I wonder why that's different for some of us? Weird. Is it to do with cookies or something? (Mmm Cookies......sorry that's the Weightwatcher in me rebelling Smiling )

Well yesterday I posted how much I had to do, I was in the middle of a crisis clean. What do I find today when I return to tell you how I did?? Someone has stolen my post!! Actually I think I probably clicked on preview comment, previewed it and left the site without clicking on 'post'. Doh.

Well, yesterday's post was about the boxes which were all over my bedroom, half emptied. When we moved here, I said I wasn't going to do that! I said I was going to unpack one box at a time, in a very organised fashion. Huh! I reckoned without needing such lost items as my boots, and DS12 nagging me for a week to find his draughts (checkers), until I gave in and went looking for them. They were in a box at the bottom of the pile of boxes....... this is quite a big pile of boxes we're talking about, too. They cover an area about 8 feet by four feet and are piled taller than me. Groan.

Anyway! With no time to unpack all the boxes, I decided the best option was to repack the boxes and stack them again, so that's what I did yesterday and the room looks infinitely better. Prior to yesterday I had to step over boxes to get to my bed, or the window. Now I will do a box at a time from now on, honest Laughing out loud (Y'know, I like the new smilies, but I miss the old ones too)

Today DS12 had a friend over to play. We need to do more of that. We get together with other Mums and kids, but I think it's nice for him to have a pal over and hopefully he will be invited back, which gives him somewhere to go without me. My 'task for the day' was to organise all the homeschooling stuff I have.......piles and piles of it. I got it all out piled on the bookcase and floor, where I could see what we've got and did I do it?

Today's poll

When confronted with a pile of papers to organise, did Honey

a. tidy and organise them
b. have a nap

Smiling

Honey's picture

Zzzzzzzz

Yup, I napped......how did you guys guess?

And now it's 11.30 pm so I'm off to bed. I do like sleeping...... almost as much as I like eating. At least sleeping stops me eating! I got on the scales today and I've a sneaking suspicion I won't have lost lost any weight on Wednesday at the meeting. Humph. I've been quite good too. Mostly!

Tomorrow's task - stay out of bed long enough to organise the homeschooling stuff, and dejunk some of the ironing pile.

See you gals tomorrow!

Still De-cluttering

Fern, I am still working on it, and will be for quite some time. I've stalled on the sewing room but need to get back at it. As usual, it's on hold until this weekends activities are over and done with.

DH says I should go ahead and paint the livingroom before we do his bedroom. GREAT! I can't decide on a color and thought I'd have lots of time to come up with one. I need to find some fabric I love, either in draperies or cushions that I can draw color choices from. GRRR!!!! I still have'nt found light fixtures for my bedroom, and I really wanted to have that room finished before I moved on.

I'll be happy when Monday has come and gone. Or perhaps I'll be so stressed out by then I'll in a de-junking frenzy. I'll take either.

It is a combination of busy and getting used to the new site that has slowed me down abit Fern. That and the fact that I know the weather is going to go bad on me any day now. I was out and did a pile of yardwork this aft, but still have lots left to cleanup. A good snow cover now would put an end to it Smiling .

New Week for Me

Hi gals.

I want to go on a solo vacation with Kerri Smiling . OOPs....I guess that would'nt be solo anymore would it.

This morning I'm on a wind down from what felt like a very long, long weekend. Cooking the Thanksgiving meal yesterday and getting the house company ready was a real stretch for me. It's over now, and I've got leftover food to last the rest of the month I'm sure. It feels wonderful to have it out of the way and know that any effort made now goes directly into Christmas. It would make me nuts to have Thanksgiving in November like my pals down south.

This morning I have laundry to do, some leftover cleanup in the kitchen from last night, and some bills to pay on-line.
After that I plan to just enjoy myself....maybe knit or read a book. Tomorrow I can consider doing some work on my sewing room.

It feels very good to have a blank calendar Laughing out loud . Later then gals, I have to go and enjoy this now.

Finishing Projects

Morning Zan. I'm not one who should offer advice on finishing things, gosh, I'd hate to admit to how many unfinished projects I have going. I will give you my ideas though, and maybe if I post it I'll try and follow my own advice.

-Make a list of your unfinished projects that you'd like to get done. Put it up where you can see it all the time(on the fridge? On the kitchen cupboard?). There is something empowering about being able to scratch to-do's off a list.
-Now choose the quickest task to finish that is on that list. If you start with the jobs that you can get done fastest you will scratch the list off quicker. If you started with a long involved task the list would show no action at all even if you're working your butt off.
-Don't move on to the next easiest project until you've got the one you're working on scratched off. Tell your DH what your doing so he'll be mentally prepared when you need his help.

Just my thoughts on getting projects finished. Some people find that deadlines help as well.

Hang out to dry

Kittycat,

Hang a shower curtain rod over the middle of your bathtub. This makes a great place to dry your clothes and when visitors stop by just shut the regular shower curtain and no one will see the clothes.

Time to Play

I think I'm tired of working now. Kitchen is cleaned, I even did the ovens instead of leaving them till Christmas Shocked . The laundry is 1/2 done.

Now I'm going to read and with any luck I'll fall asleep. I can pay bills and finish laundry later, since I don't have to cook supper tonight.

Anyone else doing anything today? Throwing anything out? Giving anything to goodwill?
