Wow, Thanksgiving already in Canada, Halloween around the corner and the colors are rapidly and drastically changing. We've had a couple frosts already but not a hard one yet. Before you know it, it'll be time for Thanksgiving here and then Christmas. I'm determined not to worry about it this year. I'd love to go to CA for Christmas but not sure i will be able to. I'll spend Thanksgiving w/my Aunt & Uncle and cousins here but i'd love to find maybe a food shelter to be involved in.
There is someone i'm interested in who is so sweet. A widow (about 2 years ago) and he has 3 teenage kids. Maybe i'll spend some time with him.
Is anyone doing Dr.Phil's weightloss solution? How are you doing on it?
Got my flu shot yesterday! Yay for me. And a GI check-up. Now I just have to get my blood pressure check-up, Remicade infusion, annual eye exam, and one or two other things. Staying alive and functional is a full-time job.
I think Hope that even a little everything is too much when there are so many different dishes. That's the big difference between the celebration meals we hear about in the US/Canada and the traditional Christmas meal in the UK, at least as far as my experience goes. For us it would be the meat, potatoes, a couple of veggies, gravy and maybe a sauce or stuffing. There wouldn't, in my experience, be two different kinds of potatoes, a gazillion pies and big fancy sides. There might be a couple of desserts, but it probably depends on how many people are eating. When we eat at home on Christmas Day there's whatever dessert my mother chooses to serve. If we're eating with family and there's 20 of us there might be up to three different desserts. But if there's only 3 or 4 people eating the range is kept much narrower. Does that make sense?? It seems like everyone for Thanksgiving has to have 20 dishes on the table plus a selection of desserts, even if there's only 2 people eating!!! Just seems like a guaranteed way to overeat. But then I haven't ever done a traditional Christmas dinner (don't have a proper oven - just a microwave with muscles!) so I probably have a lot less hang-ups on traditional food than most.
And now I'm getting hungry again. Becky warned me of this... the steroids. I can blame it all on the steroids!!!! Last night I kept things simple... we had sausages in gravy with onion, and plenty of cauliflower mash made up with lots of cream cheese. I was racking my brains to figure out what I was going to put WITH that. Well in the end I didn't put anything with it at all. A couple of sausages and a big heap of cauli mash and gravy turned out to be plenty, at least for me and DD. DS spent the night chucking up, so he didn't get to his dinner. Without actually being in the middle of a low-carb diet plan it took me a long time to realise I didn't have to serve a carb, just to round out a meal!
I've been on the treadmill this morning trying to walk off the feast. It's so true Kerri, we end up with waaaay too much food at these holiday gatherings. I think the more people that gather makes for more dishes. Here the host is usually cooking the turkey, stuffing, gravy, basic vegies, dessert etc, and then everyone who comes seems to bring a dish of some kind. It makes for alot of choices when you're filling your plate. And of course you want to try some of everything right?
Michele, I don't really watch what Dr Phil is up to so I don't know anything about his Weightloss Solution. I do know he's got a book out on it and he's doing something on his show but that's about it. Are you doing it?
Today I'm still eating leftovers, but I will see if I can eat smaller portions and sensible combinations. Heavy on the vegies. I finished off the turnips yesterday, but still have lots of carrots, brussel sprouts, and yams.
Have a healthy day gals, and don't forget the benefits of drinking that water(ignore that Kerri ).
I don't think you need to worry about my liquid intake any more Hope. I just looked at the bottle of Ribena I bought on Monday (it's Thursday night here now) and I noticed it's almost halfway down - I don't use a lot of it in a cup of cool water, so I'm guessing I must be drinking quite a lot. Actually I usually have a cup to get my breakfast sandwich down in the morning, then another cup for the tablets, then another cup for the next sandwich, then another for the meds, then of course there's another load of meds in the evening which takes a cup, and I'll usually have had another couple on top of that, plus a cup of Milo... I lost count... Looks pretty good! I can eat full-sized meals now too at a single sitting, and still have a drink afterwards most of the time. What a difference a week can make!
The yummy concoctions continue this week... cubes of ham and mozzarella, fried onions, and then a sauce made out of a can of tomatoes, lots of pesto and a can of cream (those cans are so useful for cooking with and they really don't taste half bad!), all thrown in a casserole dish, topped with romano and baked for a while. Very tasty indeed!
oh heck... just remembered the leftovers are in the microwave for safekeeping till I got to clear them away... better go sort that lot out!!!
I bought myself a small bottle of Coke today... just to test. Glutton for punishment as always. I haven't had very much of it at all yet, and what I do have is poured into a cup to defizz a little first. I was going to have some just now, but I was so darn thirsty that I forced myself to have a whole cup of Ribena instead first, so that I don't guzzle - I get to savour! I also have that cup of Milo here, so really... liquid not a problem at the moment!
Kerri I'm so glad to see you're able to enjoy some eats again. I was begiining to worry about how long you could survive on toast and meager food choices. The meds are obviously helping alot.
Last night I packed all my turkey meat into bags and put it in the freezer. I could *NOT* face another turkey meal. I'm so thrilled this is fast food night. I'm craving something naughty like a hamburger and poutine. Usually I have a chicken sandwich from BK but that would look like turkey to me today.
In an attempt to get back to some mormal eating I'm going to have medicinal cereal for breakfast, and some soup for lunch. I'm making the soup out of some of my leftover vegies to try and get rid of them.
I've had a little too much coffee this morning. I'll just have to switch over to water right away I think. Have a healthy day gals.
Morning all, did I mention I was stuffed? I still am over 12 hours later. Those Thanksgiving and Christmas meals really do a number on you don't they. Enjoying it to no end seems like a good idea at the time. Why do we forget everytime what it's going to feel like afterwards? I now have enough leftovers to feed DH and myself for a good week at least. *IF* we ever feel like eating again .
There was a tiny little dusting of snow on the ground this morning. That makes me feel like getting on the treadmill again for some reason. I am going to go right away and catch some morning news while I walk. I've been so busy with Thanksgiving prep the last couple of days that I feel out of touch with the worlds events.
I'll check in with you all later and report on the leftover food meals.

The Good and the Bad
I had salad for breakfast
. Pretty darn good eh?
Well, I'm having pumpkin pie and whipped cream for lunch. What? Bad?? Pumpkin is a vegie is it not?
Supper is going to be hot turkey sandwiches, and some leftover vegies.
Right now it's nap time and I should'nt be keeping my pillow waiting. Later gals.
