On to Damascus?

The DOD quietly starts to fill draft boards once again: While conscription hasn't begun, one does wonder. I didn't even know this website existed, but here is the low-key announcement that has so far escaped much media attention at all.

And there's no college exempt

And there's no college exemption anymore, either. I wonder how many rich republicans (including my father) will still support this war when they realize their sons will be going whether they want to or not. It's the problem with an all-volunteer army - it becomes faceless.

What *I* want to know is why the media hasn't been discussing the fact (recently covered on Salon) that the Iraqi government, the night before the first bombings, sent a back-channels last minute offer to allow American troops and AMERICAN INSPECTORS in to examine their weapons program.

This isn't for Iraq

I doubt anyone is planning to institute a draft for the Iraqi occupation! Our soldiers, while their deaths are tragic, are not being killed in those kinds of numbers. The home page of that site has an article declaring that it would be counterproductive to increase troop numbers while transferring power to the Iraqi forces, and right now, the Dept. is cycling out thousands of soldiers.

What I wonder is...is this preparation for a possible confrontation with N. Korea? There hasn't been much media or congressional discussion about N. Korea lately that I've noticed, but you know the administration has still got that on a front-burner. That nation has a formidable army & weaponry.

Oh, and I remember that report about the regime's last-ditch effort to avert our invasion. Wasn't that widely reported?
