Another Processed Food to Watch Out For

Pumping Up Meat: "Meat is changing from a fresh commodity to a processed food. That transformation is affecting how we cook, what's available, whether it's more or less likely to contain bacteria that can cause foodborne illness and even how much sodium and food additives we consume. And it may mean the supermarket butcher is going the way of the milkman."
Increasingly what's available at the market has been fiddled with. Sure, it's faster to cook. But it's not real food. The more food has been tampered with, the less nutrition is in it. We are fatter and less healthy because of it. We have to stand up and say NO, turn our backs on this health menace, and take care of ourselves and our families.

Ugh
Which is precisely why I quit buying Hormel pork.
I found a no additives, no antibiotics brand that I think tastes better anyway. (OK, I've been dying to use that smiley)
Buying direct
I try to buy straight from the farmer if at all possible, not least because I want animals that are grass-fed as much as possible as opposed to grain-fed.

I need a freezer
A friend of mine buys a quarter cow from an organic farmer. If I had a freezer, I'd go in for another quarter. They raise chickens, too. But finding pork is tough up here.
