What's In and Out in Kitchen Design

I'm a fool for kitchen design, probably because my own kitchen desperately needs remodeled and it won't be happening for another few years. So I read Avoid These Now-Popular Home Design Trends in 2006 with some interest. Imagine my surprise; I've been on the cutting edge of design for ten years now. That's how long--maybe longer--I've wanted a farm-style sink. The world is catching up with me. By the time I get my sink I'll be out again. Ah well.

I wondered how long it would take for the basin sink craze to end.

Fascinating article

Intriguing that as soon as Lowe's or Home Depot start to carry the "hot" new interior items for less, the trend setters switch tactics and start steering people towards the more expensive stuff.

Home Design Trends

I think that things should not be put like this:
"WHAT MAY DIE: Glass doors

WHAT'S NEXT: Dark woods, smooth surfaces"

Just the opposite - they have their place together: glass doors are best for high cupboards, because they make space seem much bigger, while dark woods are best used on lower cupboards, because they seem much heavier and commanding on space. So I do not accept this trend and doubt its credibility. Yes - glass can be transparent, but it can be with relief figures or frosted and still lighter than wood, especially dark one.
And why avoid something that is good for you? Even if it has been decided to be 'outdated'? With trends for interior design things should be more practically oriented - we do not change our cupboards every year.

It's all just marketing

I watch these things less to stay trendy and more to get ideas I hadn't considered before. The point is always to get you to buy more stuff.
