View from the Treadmill August 2007

I haven't been as faithful as I've wanted to be on the treadmill, so this month I'm going to try getting on it as soon as I'm dressed. This morning I did that, and feel pretty good. I did 22 minutes at 1.6 mph, with a 15 minute break at 4 min because my mom called.
I should have just let it ring but I knew it was her and sometimes when I don't pick up at that hour of the day people worry something's wrong. Next time I'll let it ring.
The view from the treadmill was of a soft gray sky and a dark green tree. Very little wind to ruffle it. I listened to a couple of Bon Appetit podcasts and the time went quickly.

Behind in my logging but not in my walking
I keep forgetting to mark it down here. At least every other morning I've been getting up and getting straight on the treadmill. I've upped my time and speed to 22 minutes at 1.8, and I've been listening to the completely splendid and perfectly timed podcast from Scientific American, Science Talk with the genial Steve Mirsky. Even if you're not a science geek you'll enjoy it. And, weighing in at 25 or so minutes apiece, they are perfect for the treadmill.
The view lately has been schizophrenic. We have had the oddest summer I can recall. Today, for instance, it's going to be around 91. Tomorrow, 73 and raining. Go figure.

Today I did 22 minutes at 1.8 mph again, listening to Science Talk (I have a big backlog of them, luckily). Doing it right when I get up is the ticket currently, especially since Jo hasn't been interested in "coaching" me.
The view today was a sullen sky, as if it were resentful to be covered in clouds. Not a flicker of a breeze in the trees.

I took Friday through Monday off; we had my SIL's wedding and were extremely busy. I got lots of walking in, believe me!
Today I got back on the actual treadmill. I kept my speed at 1.8 but I increased my time to 24 min. I'm now starting my cooldown 1.5 minutes from the end instead of one, but am stepping it more conservatively--30 sec @ 1.5, 30 sec @ 1, 30 sec @ .5. I've kept my warm-up at 30 sec @ .5, 30 sec @ 1.
My ultimate goal is 30 min @ 1.8 with a 1 minute warm-up and 3 minute cooldown by the end of September (I'm being conservative here). After that I'll start ramping up the intensity but I'll keep it at 30 min. I'm still aiming for daily, settling for 5-6 days/week as good.
The view today was a blue sky striped liberally with white clouds and big green dots of trees. Little breeze once again, and very mild sub-70 temps. Strange, strange summer. The audio was Thom Hartmann's show.

Both days I did 25 minutes at 1.8. The sky was grey and cold. It's freakin' August! whiskey tango foxtrot!
I am really, really tired today and may skip my walk. We'll see.

25 minutes at 1.8. The sky was acid blue again and it's going to be hot. 1.8 is feeling slow now, but I'm not going to pick up the pace until I can go a full 30 minutes. I'm going to start adding minutes by the end of this week.
Yesterday we walked a lot downtown, so I considered that my walk.

Every time I read your posts
Every time I read your posts I get so inspired! I think it's so great that you are so dedicated to staying fit and healthy. I will confess that I have taken the last 3 weeks off from my workouts. I have been terribly busy recently but it's something that I need to get back into. It makes me a healthier and happy person which I'm sure you can relate to. Keep being an inspiration to us all!

Closing out the month big time:
I made it to 30 minutes!!
I stayed at 1.8. Tomorrow I'll repeat it. Sunday I'm taking off. Monday I'm going to do 30 minutes at 2 mph. And I'll start a new VFTT thread for September tomorrow!
Thanks, everyone, for helping me be accountable!

Did 26 minutes at 1.8--yep, took it up another minute. The view was of a sky already hot and blue and a stock still tree. Not a breeze.
