View from the Treadmill, October 2007

Lynn's picture

Here's the treadmill thread for October. I invite everyone out there who does a regular exercise routine--treadmill-based or otherwise--to log their daily activity here. I find it really keeps me accountable.

Today I did 30 minutes at 2 mph, even though I'm not feeling so hot. The view was blurry. I took my glasses off and put them in my pocket in an attempt to keep myself from watching the timer too much. It seems to help. ANYTHING I can do to psych myself through these things, I'm going to do. You would NOT believe some of the internal dialogs I've got going while I'm walking.

The goal for October is 7 days a week, knowing that it's unlikely I'll hit all 7 days. I'm going to keep my time at 30 minutes and my speed at 2 mph, even though I know that's pretty slow by treadmill standards. Once I've gotten the extra days in without incident, I'll look at ratcheting the intensity up again. I have to take this slowly or I'm going to fail. I've learned that much in the last year, that there's no shame in going slowly, only in giving up.

You've inspired me to start

michelleW's picture

You've inspired me to start walking on the treadmill we bought at least 2yrs ago and have never really used. I walked three times last week. I am also going very slow. 30 minutes at about 2 mph. Friday i made it to 1 mile in under 30 minutes. Didn't walk this morning because had kids sleeping in the bedroom the treadmill is in. I have to have the tv on so I will quit looking at the timer so much.

I have wireless headphones

michelleW's picture

I have wireless headphones that I LOVE. I have moved the treadmill twice and like it best in the spare bedroom. Just happened to have extra kids the last three nights. I am trying to walk on the treadmill everyday but I am having a hard time unless I do it as soon as I wake in the morning.

30 min @ 2 mph. And I added my arm exercises back in. Tomorrow I'll do legs. The view, as it will be probably until May, was of raindrops on the skylight.

Did 30 minutes at 2 mph on arising. View was blurry again; I'm finding that taking my glasses off and having imaginary conversations with fictional characters is keeping me on track.

Walked 30 minutes today at

Skipped yesterday, tried to

michelleW's picture

Skipped yesterday, tried to do a Abs of steel video, made it about 10 minutes. I couldn't keep up. Today I walked at 2.3 for 30 minutes and added some situps.
Is it raining there? We were supposed to get rain the last two days and haven't seen it yet.

Michelle

I walked 15 minutes last

michelleW's picture

I walked 15 minutes last night while dd was in the shower and never made it back to finish. This morning I did 33 minutes at 2.2mph. I've started covering the display screen with a towel so time seems to go faster.

30 minutes @ 2 mph, except for 5 min @ 2.2 mph. The view is indistinct, as it's raining, and blurry, as I've started taking my glasses off to avoid the timer.

Go, Michelle!

Did 30 min @ 2 mph, just dialing it back a little since I haven't been feeling so hot. I finally got some good sleep over the last two days and am feeling better!

So far this month, I've walked 12 days out of 17! I'm still gunning for 100% but I'll take 71% for now. In terms of days of the week, on average I'm walking around 5 days a week.

I skipped yesterday, was

michelleW's picture

I skipped yesterday, was very sore from Sunday and Monday. Walked 25 minutes @ 2.5 mph with a 3% incline this morning. I am going to slowly work up to running 2 miles a day.

I ditched yesterday as well.

jennye's picture

I ditched yesterday as well. Partly because I was a little sore (that 3% incline doesn't feel like much when doing it, but you feel it in the morning!!), and partly because I just wasn't home. Today I haven't tackled it because DH is home and sleeping after spending all night out in the field with the baler. Yes, it's in another room, but I like to have the stereo blaring some Metallica or hip hop, headphones aren't really an option either.

30 min @ 2.2 mph. It feels like work, but I can do it. I'm finally up to over a mile in total distance. The view was back to normal--gray gray gray. Smiling

Ok, I'm going to start using

jennye's picture

Ok, I'm going to start using my treadmill! You've inspired me (well, you and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Training Camp on CMT, and I Want to Look Like a High School Cheerleader Again, also on CMT. They do 2 min pushups, 2 minute situps, and 2 mile run). My goal is to eventually run/jog a mile on the thing. It will be a while before I'm even close to doing that.

Today I walk/ran 2 miles in

michelleW's picture

Today I walk/ran 2 miles in 34 minutes. Was a little sore this morning. The treadmill has different setting to burn set amounts of calories. It takes 40 minutes and goes up to 6.7 mph. Not sure I will ever get to that. I just keep turning it back down to 3 or 4 mph.

Michelle

I did mine for 30 minutes

jennye's picture

I did mine for 30 minutes this morning at about 3.3 MPH (a couple of spurts up to 4, but not for long). Ended up being a bit over a mile. Yay me. Did a minute of pushups and another of situps, too. Which aren't fast, about 20 of each. Baby steps, right?

No VFTT today

30 min @ 2 mph both days. Didn't manage it yesterday or today. Back on it tomorrow. Alternating legs and arms.

I hope you did better then

michelleW's picture

I hope you did better then me this weekend. I walked 15 minutes on saturday and 30 minutes this morning. I am going to try for everyday this week. Wish me luck!

Yesterday I got a brand new

Yesterday I got a brand new treadmill. Today I walked/ran 2 miles in 30 minutes. I've never gotton past 1.5 miles on my old one. It's so much nicer and easier to use.

30 minutes at 2.2 mph. I didn't walk yesterday and if I walk today it'll be truncated. I'm just not feeling so hot. Tomorrow I see the cardiologist and we'll be discussing the recall on the leads in my heart. I am dreading the whole thing.

Lynn Siprelle, Editor

VFTT: Switching tactics

Lynn's picture

I'm taking a suggestion from my cardiologist and I'm breaking my workout in two. I've stalled out on weight loss and I'm fed up. So I'm going to do 20 min in the morning and 20 min at night, working toward 30 min in each chunk. I was able to do that at rehab--I did 40 min in two 20 min chunks.

I did 20 min this morning at 2.5 and that was probably too intense. I'll do 20 min later today at 2.

Lynn Siprelle, Editor

Skipped three days

michelleW's picture

25 minutes at 2.5 at a 2% incline. Haven't felt well the last three days. Good luck with the cardiologist tomorrow. I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

Michelle

SaturdayI did 10 min at 3 10

michelleW's picture

SaturdayI did 10 min at 3 10 min at 3.5 and another 5 at 3 with a 1% incline. Sunday walked 25 min at 3.5. Trying to get back in the habit of everyday.

MichelleW

Saturday I did the first 15

jennye's picture

Saturday I did the first 15 minutes of Program 2 on my treadmill (starts at 3MPH, goes up to 4, with a 3-5% incline throughout, I think). I quit when the kids tried to climb on it with me. LOL! I have a hard time doing anything for longer than 15 minutes. Some kid or another needs me and I feel I should be doing other things than to just stand there walking the day away. LOL!

yay!!

Lynn's picture

Believe me, if *I* can do this, ANYONE can do this. Have you considered headphones for your TV? Can you move your treadmill?

Lynn Siprelle, Editor

for the last week, off and on

Lynn's picture

The snow level's dropped to 3500 ft (low for this time of year) and the Cascades are going to get dumped on today. Here closer to sea level we may get thunderstorms this afternoon.
