Technically, yes. I'm a SAHM. But, I work around our farm and ranch (go-fer parts, lunch, road machinery, etc), as well as doing all the kids activities. I coach cheerleaders, go to school (online for now). So I'm not AT home all that much! LOL!

I would say yes I am a stay at home mom, even though my kids are in college...It just works for our family. My husband and I both agree, (after only several years of going back and forth) that me being home is what works for our family the best. My husband is on the road a great deal, and I felt that someone had to "be at home" to make our home a home, or home as we knew it would cease to exist! It was mostly my husband that wanted me to go back to work, and it was myself that wanted to be at home. Financially we pulled it off with strict budgeting so it is all working out just fine. But like so many other "stay at moms" I have my hand in other stuff. I run a small rural library which requires only 4-6 hours a week for pay, and run a small soapmaking, crafting venture which pays for our yearly vaction....But I do just love it at home and so does my family...who doesn't like the smell of homemade bread or fresh sheets off the line? kudos to all SAHM's

...doing whatever makes it feel like home the most to you. If that involves breadmaking, go for it. If it doesn't, don't. Eye-wink

Oh my goodness I did not mean that baking bread is for everyone. I only do it to save money and besides my family likes it and I love making it. I certainly did not mean in regard to my comment about making bread to imply that anyone "should be doing anything or not doing anything". Women have had enough of society telling us what we should or should not do or who we should or should not be in this world. Baking Bread is definitely not for everyone...Different people find different joy's in life..and joy and peace I believe anyway is what life is all about..and women find their joy in many ways whether it be in the workforce or at home...and that is the way it should be .....may we all find our JOY

My response was in regard to the guest that posted "I'm supposed to be baking bread?" I do feel that it is sad however that sometimes we as women in this society feel that we "should be doing or not doing" something... more, different or better or whatever, whether it's working outside the home, inside the home..the list could go on and on and just sometimes women get overwhelmed with the feeling of "what we should be doing"
If only we could all find the path of our hearts!
Thank you Lynn for your wonderful Permission Slip!

Oh, so needed today.

I've been spending my past three days either being a screaming mee-mee or bawling (yes, I'm sure pregnancy has something to do with it), and I'm usually upset over things I "Should be doing" that I just don't do (because I don't enjoy it, so I put it off, then I feel bad that my family isn't getting that benefit, etc.) I don't do this to myself on a regular basis, and it's not "ME" to care, which makes me more upset, because I'm not being "ME" lately. However, the permission slip sent me into much needed laughter. Guess you never know when a small action will makes someone else's day. Thanks Lynn.

I have been through those days before, I hear you Jilsyt...
My kids are in college now and I have much more time to do the things I enjoy...However...I do remember those days when I had a toddler (18 months old) and I was pregnant with my second...and believe me homemade bread was the LAST thing on my mind...surviving the day was enough! And you are so right permission slips are SO needed today! ;o)

ummm...

there's no option for "kinda"!! I'm no longer a SAHM as many of you know, since DH and I started our own business early last year and moved out of the home office a year ago. BUT... I don't have anyone else to take care of my kids (11 and 8 1/2). When they're in school I drop them off and pick them up and work in between times. While they were on holiday during the summer they spent most of their time stuck in our office - one advantage to being the boss!

and it makes me sad not to be able to just say yes! Sad I'm working towards getting my head back home more, back to writing my once ubiquitous morning pages every morning between the school run and leaving for the office. Maybe I can claw back a few hours here and there and be able to concentrate on my kids when they're home. I am definitely their primary caregiver though, in modern parlance!

so I haven't voted on this occasion.

Kerri.

I consider myself an at-home, even though I work almost 20 hrs a week. We arrange our lives to have minimal childcare, and we homeschool, so I figure that has to count!
