Lightly pat 1/2 of meat into an 8-inch oven proof skillet. Arrange cheese slices over meat and top with remaining , patting to make a smooth surface. Sprinkle with pepper and cut into quarters. Cook over medium to medium-high heat until bottom layer is nicely browned. Put skillet in oven and broil until top is browned and burger is cooked all the way through. Serve right away.
