A Light at the End of a Very Long Tunnel

Louisa is doing some potty training today, all on her own. When I changed her this morning she insisted she didn't want another diaper, so she's going "naked butt" today. So far she has made it to the potty twice completely by herself--I didn't even know until she came to me and told me. Pooped and peed, all by herself. Soon, so soon, my seven years of diaper changing will be coming to a close...

I can't wait.

Seven years!

Won't you miss it just a little? Eye-wink

Nope.

I know how you feel. My 2yo went completely naked the other day and ran to the potty a few times. I felt like I was encouraging the little savage; he loves to take his clothes off. But who wants to interfere with self-potty training? I never was good at forcing the issue, so all mine have trained rather late.

How goes it lately?

Are things still going well in the potty dept?

J.D. is still using the toilet. I haven't noticed any accidents, but that doesn't mean there haven't been any! LOL! He goes whenever I ask him if he needs to, but he also goes all on his own. My other kids were *not* this easy. Although I probably shouldn't speak too soon. Smiling

In fact, John's changing pants right now. It's harder when he's home because we go out more, so we'll probably go "naked butt" on Tuesday.

Danika has been wearing under

Submitted by Danna on Sun, 02/22/2004 - 4:08pm.

Danika has been wearing underwear and going to the potty for two weeks now. I think the key for us is frequecy--she isn't great at "holding it," but if I have her go every hour she stays nearly accident-free. She's very proud of herself. We've been reading potty books since she was about 15 months old, but I didn't expect her to get this far before she even turned two.

I think the breakthrough has been her learning how to make herself go instead of it just happening when she happened to be sitting on the potty. Now that she can make it happen, she wants to practice it. She's slowly learning to hold it ... we're now up to about a 2-3 second delay between "I have to pee-pee!" and "I pee-peed!"

my potty past

Submitted by Jennmommy5 on Mon, 02/23/2004 - 11:18am.

my oldest child was nearly 3 when he trained i had been working with him but when i went to the hospital to give birth to my 3rd child he came back from my mothers home and didnt have five more accidents the rest of his life so i chalk that one up to luck or my mom did something wierd to him and wont tell me what Sticking out tongue...my next trainer is 4 and she still has some accidents but she was a preemie and the doctor says her muscle control is just late she never has poopy accidents but she can only hold pee pee for two or three mins and she hasnt got a good grip on the dont wait just go idea.My third child Miss Independant decided right after her 2nd birthday that she wanted to go potty and hated diapers. She is almost 3 now and accidents are pee pee only and happen days apart. How easy was that.I am sold on the idea of laid back potty introduction.I dont like to even say training beccause really there comes a point in a childs life were they do not want to potty on themselves. My sister is trying to train her nearly 2 year old since he is 1.5 and it is frustrating the both of them. She is under alot of pressure from the people around her beccause they belive in potty training by 2 and shes getting some bad advice like make him clean it up himself or....spank him or he will never learn.I myself got this same "sage" advice and I with my hard head promptly ignored it.I now just wonder how my last lil kiddie will learn oh well I am in the trenches of potty wars with you and wish you all luck and less steam cleaning.

DD pooped on the carpet today

Submitted by Anhata on Tue, 03/02/2004 - 11:24pm.

Potty training hasn't gone well for us. When she was two I took DD to a daycare one day a week so I could take piano lessons and despite my continued requests for the lady not to do so, she did the "Bad Girl" method of potty training, which set us back to square one. (I was so upset, I can't even tell you.) It's been really, really hard since.

Today, she stripped down to "naked butt" all by herself, not sure why, then about an hour later, I here a "I poo pooed on the carpet..." She did it right next to the bathroom, so I tell myself that she was trying to get to the potty and didn't make it.

It cleaned up easily, thank God. I made no comment and we moved on.

I still have no idea how to potty train her. She's going to have to figure out how to do it herself, I guess, cause everything I've tried doesn't work.
