Disaster!

I played all day yesterday...sat around watching movies and playing on the computer, and playing with kids at bedtime. So now it's time to pay. You would not believe this house if you could see it.

TA DA:
*Breakfast served (late)
*All dirty laundry picked up and thrown into my bathroom, two beds stripped
*Most of trash picked up in LR

But the PODA is extensive, and I have Anna Kate's therapy appt. this afternoon. I hate when I have to clean up and go out at the same time. Grr. Humanly impossible.

I've really got to start obeying FlyLady.

On the up-side, I did enjoy myself yesterday. And the lentil-spinach stew is yummy...thanks Jo! Smiling

Love,

Susannah

Becky's picture

thanks for the new thread

Anna Kate's therapist works on President's Day? Too bad.

I haven't even been lurking the past couple of days. I've been too busy. The dishes are all piled up, even though we have a dishwasher. Somehow, just because I have less time on my hands doesn't mean that DH has acquired more time to do stuff too. Laughing out loud We should probably get some paper plates and things.

Becky's picture

oh, and...

Tomorrow I am planning to do everything Flylady says all day--I want to get an idea of what I am aiming for. I also am going to do everything she says for the rest of today. And oh yeah, write an essay for class tomorrow. This is the most time-consuming class I have ever taken.

jamielea's picture

Oh mighty flylady ;-)

I read Susannah's post this morning and decided to shine my sink, it did carry over to the rest of the kitchen Smiling

Then I come to find Becky's post and I'm thinking it's a sign Laughing out loud that's what I need to do! Really try and follow flylady for a day or so, see if it makes a difference.

I am doing the "marathon laundry". So far today I've done 3 loads of laundry (washed, dried, folded, and put away) Still have probably 4 loads to go! What a BAD flybaby I've been. DC16 did all his chores for the week today, DS17 was not as inspired. I don't care when they get done, as long as it's by the end of the week, but I was impressed and inspired by DC16 desire to get it done.

DS5 and I took the day off from homeschool as the older boys were out for Presidents day. I'll be glad when the loonnnggg weekend is over and my week gets a little more normal.

Ok, gotta run, see you guys later.

Back in the Freezer

We were at -28 when I woke up this morning. Good thing Florida is in my near future or I would be seriously depressed.

TADA

Still a disaster

It's after dinner now and I haven't accomplished much. Moved the laundry by two loads and made supper. Made the therapy appt. on time, even though it got moved back 45 min. Put away a bit in the kitchen, cleared off half the hot spot, but created others in doing so.

Already whupped, but I'm going to try to work tonight, because we have to go out again tomorrow (P.E.). I can't miss again this week because I need to pay the Y membership fee. If I can get a day free, maybe I'll join you all in following FlyLady to the letter. Smiling

Love ya! Baby's crying...

I picked out the boys bedding, there not real picky, as long as it's not pink or frilly. I got a striped pattern burgundy, hunter green, navy blue, pretty manly looking. Laughing out loud
BTW, have a good time in Florida! Smiling

Well, Sunday was a run around

Well, Sunday was a run around day for me and today I took DS9 to get his glasses adjusted since he felt that they were sitting funny on his face. DD2 rode the carousel at the mall while we were there much to her toddler delight. We then visited Great-grandma at the nursing home and went to lunch at BK. I was good and had a salad though.

Oh and on topic....

Susannah, thanks for the way to go for Ds spelling. He has an almost photographic memory with spelling words so usually gets 90-100's on his tests. I think it may be a way to deal with the dyslexia.

TADA
put away laundry
eyeglass adjustment
visited Gr-Grandma
dw
general pick up around house
played major board games with Ds(when I was little, I thought they were "bored" games since that is what my mom would say to play when I told her i was bored!!)
made dinner
DD2 bathed and in jammies

Kids are watching Daddy Day Care, quite funny.

well, better finish up some stuff so I can veg myself.
Have a great evening all

Brrr!

-28! I am glad we seem to be warming up a bit here -- at least it is above zero when I get up in the morning! (Although March often brings painful wind chills.)

Still hanging in by the skin of my teeth -- managed to do some good straightening yesterday, but it takes about 10 min. of the whole family home together to get it dismantled!

How long does it take to get the hang of a baby, again? Laughing out loud

This one still won't sleep through the night, and she is having major mommy attachement issues -- like "must have mommy now!" all day.

One day at a time . . .

Well, obviously I have nothing to report, but I have been lurking on ya'll, making sure you're keeping your noses (and sinks!) clean. Hope everyone had a great valentine's weekend!

Susannah's picture

Good Morning!

I'm almost all the way through the laundry! Not folded though. And I stayed up way too late watching The Remains of the Day. Bad flybaby!

Shaun, I have a horrible memory, so every baby is almost like starting anew. However, my subconscious seems more relaxed, at least.

Sounds like you had a busy day, Heidi! What fun, a carousel! My kids would love that.

Really achey today, for some reason. Gonna take an ibuprofen in a minute.

Okay, PODA:
*Homeschool
*Laundry
*P.E.
*Straighten

I've been watching the hamster babies to make sure Becky's prediction doesn't come true. LOL! But they are still nursing and their eyes haven't opened yet.

Later!

Love,

Susannah

AWOL

Yep, I've been AWOL from posting, but not from Fly-ing. It's been hectic both at home and my office, so I've been concentrating on getting things done & not posting so much. Boy, I miss you guys!

DD is taking a nap (can we all say yippee?), so I'm catching up on some things. She has her tonsils and adenoids scheduled to come out Friday morning. And I think Mama is beginning to get a little nervous about it. It's amazing how many of your emotions come to the surface when your a mother versus when you're not! I know it's what she needs to do, but it doesn't make it any more pleasant.

I need to check my supplies and make sure we have plenty of ice cream and other soft stuff for her post-op. I'll make a grocery run tomorrow and also get anything else we might need through the weekend. We are going to have a quiet, stay-at-home one, needless to say. Unless she is really feeling bad, she will drive us nuts wanting to go somewhere!

Today's PODA:

* Laundry (see, nothing changed since I posted last week!)
* Unload and reload dishwasher
* Scrub crockpot insert
* Sweep all floors
* Clean up DD's playroom
* Email a friend to remind about DD's surgery
* Mail truck payment for DH
* Pick up DD's [last] seizure medication refill!!
* Call MIL to find out what time FIL's dr. appointment is tomorrow (I am staying with BIL who is in bed with two broken legs)

I guess that's about it for today. I'm trying to get all laundry done so all I'll have Thursday evening is a couple of small loads.

Well, better get going if I want to do some things before DD awkens!

success so far

Following Flylady's instructions closely has been going more smoothly than I expected. I discovered to my surprise that I seem to have drifted closer to the prescribed routines over the years. Years? Wow. Anyhow, it turns out that I really have been doing a lot of what I "should" be doing anyway, but doing it in a specific order makes it go somewhat faster. I did have a moment of panic when I first checked my e-mail and saw how much she had already sent out, but then I realized that the e-mails are calibrated to Eastern time.

I finished my paper for class today. I have to write a letter, and make a doctor's appointment. Also still have to do the "15-minutes-in-the-Zone" thing. The Zone is DH's revolting studio and less-revolting attached bathroom. I would say "I don't want to touch his things," but unfortunately I asked him ages ago if certain specific items could be thrown out, and I have not yet actually thrown them out. Oops. Guess that'll happen today.

witchiepoo's picture

Ouch

I reached up this morning to wash my hair in the shower, and CRACK! My neck snapped and now I can't turn it to the left or lift my left arm. I think I slipped a disk in my neck. Called the chiropracter, but he is not in the office today. I put some good deep-heating herbs on it and DH is going to try to loosen it a little before bed, so not much flying, and I'm getting panicky about being ready for the trip.(breathing deeply................exhale........it will all be fine...)

TADA
directed the DSs in how to make a really yummy salad for dinner
made DS13 do two loads of laundry

PODA
try to sleep tonight

Susannah, great job on the reading lessons! Do you like that book? Silly question, since you're using it again I guess Smiling Blonde moment. I have seen it and always wondered.

Jamielea, I bought some really nice southwestern-type print flannel in navy, hunter, burgundy, and cream to make the boys quilts. I really need to get on that, thanks for the inspiration!

Vonnie, great to hear from you again! Best wishes for Friday, I will send fast-healing vibes your way for DD.

Becky, I had a class like that last summer-they really can consume your life, can't they?

Shaun, how was the French School tour?

Heidi, how old is DS? He certainly seems to be coping well with the dyslexia with As on his spelling tests! Wow!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Jo-DS is 9 and in 3rd grade. He has a great memory so that is why he can do well on spelling tests where you just have to spit the words back out. His weakness lies in sounding out words phonetically. He will be starting the Wilson Reading Method one on one in a couple weeks.

Jenny-enjoyed loooking over the updates on your website. The kids are sure looking more grown up than even last time.

Hope that you guys had a good one today. I will "see" you all tomorrow.

Good Night.

French school tour!

Thanks for askin'! First, I have been wanting to get ya'lls thoughts on this.

As we're waiting for the tour, I'm standing outside of one of the KG classroom doors. The kids are having some kind of semi-free play, singing along with French music and making some kind of Valentine craft. And then I overhear a conversation between a boy and a girl: "I'm gonna take all your clothes off," "I'm gonna rip off your underwear," and so on!

At first this really freaks me out, especially since we're comparing this school to our sweet little parish school where the 3rd graders explained "Reconciliation" to us on our tour (that was the lesson at the time we walked in.) But then I think, hey, my daughter loves to whisper "poop" and "pee" with her best friend when she thinks no one is listening, so is this somehow the same?

It was an odd opener to the tour, anyhow!

The school is nice, has a lot of things we like, but the building is totally inadequate. The Suzuki string classes I was so excited about take place in a basement hallway! The gym is tiny and they have not yet built an outdoor playground. I have not ruled it out, but it is not the nirvana I pictured! And they will be moving, probably out of our neighborhood, to address the overcrowding issue. Oh well, still undecided, though we did drop some serious cash just to hold a spot at our parish school.

Beckster, I gotta say -- good for you! You are doing awesome! In some ways I am a worse Flybaby than ever before, but it is true, some of those routines just sink in and you don't even notice that you're doing better than you think. But I am seriously breaking the rules by staying up way too late!

Hope you're better soon Jo!

Bon soir, tout le monde! Le boudoir is calling me!

Susannah's picture

Which way are you leaning?

To the parish school? Although Suzuki lessons would be nice.

We have a thing in the next city called "Master's Academy" which is basically a co-op homeschool kinda thing. My friend was telling me about their lesson on Egypt...face-painting, papyrus writing, the Rosetta Stone, etc. Very hands on! She said her son was learning so much, and they take younger kids too. $50 a month per kid, though. Not a bad price, but not exactly what I can afford right now, with two in "school."

I had to laugh about the potty talk. We call it "potty mouth" around here. Unfortunately my DH encourages it! Laughing out loud He's always joking with my kids that he's going to flush their blankies down the toilet, etc. He used to get a rise out of 'em, but now even the 2yo is onto him.

Jo, ow! I hope your neck is better today! Has this ever happened before? Praying for healing for you! Immobilization is the one thing a mom doesn't need. Is the chiropractor in today?

Becky, all right! Way to go! So far, today is Obey FlyLady Day for me too. TA DA! I got up 15 min. before the family (and ONLY 15 min. ha!) and got my shower. I am dressed, including shoes & makeup. I put one load of laundry on. I folded six loads last night! (Don't ever do that, it's overwhelming and everything was wrinkled.) I put away almost all the clothes, except the socks which I matched last night while watching tv. Also, ran DW and shined (well, wiped with a cloth) my kitchen sink. And wiped table. Sometimes I forget to do that at night.

PODA: I'm just going to do the e-mails today. Smiling

Oh, I do like 100 Lessons, except getting through them with DD5 has been excruciatingly slow at times. I don't do the stories twice for that reason (as the instructions direct). That may be why she's not as fluent as I'd like her to be, but that could also be her age, because she's improved as she's gotten older. Some kids just aren't all that ready at 5. She's definitely reading though! And knows how to sound out words. I remember worrying about my first daughter at the end of the book, but she's a pretty good reader now.

I'll have to look into the Wilson Reading Method, too. Smiling

Where is Jenny these days?

I'd better go get breakfast. Love y'all!

Check with you all later.

Have a good one.

Heidi

Post the recipe, Heidi!

I've got ginger *and* carrots in the fridge. Smiling

I just realized today is anti-procrastination day. I can't think of which dreaded chore to do:

1. Sort pictures (shiver); they are piled in a cabinet right now. Yuk.
2. Quilt. Smiling That would be fun. I've been quilting on this queen-sized thing for years. Haven't done it in months.
3. Declutter DH's clothes
4. Sort boys' clothes (I very much dislike sorting clothes, but there aren't as many boys' as girls'.)

Whatever it is will have to wait till after homeschooling.

P.S. TA DA! I just did all the e-mails. Smiling

Susannah-Ginger Carrot Soup

Susannah-Ginger Carrot Soup
4c chicken broth
1/2 c orange juice
1 lb carrots peeled and chopped
1 potato peeled and chopped
1sm. onion peeld and chopped
1 Tbsp grated ginger
1tsp grated orange peel

Combine all in a lg pot and bring to boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes.

Pour it all into blender to puree then put it back in the pot and stir in 1c buttermilk
2 Tbsp honey
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Enjoy. I made enough to freeze, just double it if you want.
I got it from Mothering magazine's website's email newsletter.

Hate when the day is going well and then you look at the mail. GRRR..
Assessment fees for sidewalk improvements for a house we own but no longer live in. Can't pass it on to the renter's so we must absorb it. Gotta sell that place ASAP,it is a thorn in our side.

DH cousin is having a beef cow from their farm processed for us this week so we will be getting LOTS of various cuts of meat to stock our freezer up with for quite awhile. DH helped him redo his home without pay years ago and now he is paying him in Beef!!! That's okay with us,glad to get it.

Storytime went well, got some new stuff to read. then took the van in for a wash. DD2 thought driving through the carwash was the coolest thing.

Well still to do is deal with all the laundry I had going while we were out this morning. Then dinner and homework with Ds.

have a good evening you guys

Hey guys! Haven't been around in a week or two. It's been hard, but I've been getting more done at home.

Jo, I'm sorry about your neck! Been there, done that! Hope it's feeling better today.

Heidi (I think it was you). Thanks for the comments on my site/kiddos. I need to put new pics up soon. When I have the time.

So, just what have I been doing? Well, let me tell ya!
*Getting taxes together (farmers taxes are due March 1st, remember).
*scrapbooking (I've gotten several pages done!)
*really douched the girls' room
*douched my pickup (it even got a bath today)
*basketball games (our Varsity Boys are 8-0 in district!)
*SIL visit
*other inlaws visit
*snow. We actually got 3 inches of snow last week! Anything will help. Our annual rainfall last year was just over 7 inches. Not good.

And the biggest thing is working in the yard! Some of yous may recall the mess I have in the front yard with the cactii. Well, it's all gone! Whoohoo! We had to tear out the cinder-block wall to get a loader in there, which was the only way to tear out this overgrown stuff. Anyway, that has kept us real busy, I'll post pictures soon.

It's a beautiful 76F here. We are fixin' to go outside and enjoy it!

anti-procrastination day

I made it most of the way yesterday, but didn't go to bed with a shiny sink. I had trouble figuring out the schedule for that because my class is at an odd time. I think I've worked it all out now though.

My two projects for the day are to write up DH's resume for his scholarship, and to finish my FAFSA for next year.

Hey Jenny!

Glad you peeked in! You *have* been busy. Can't wait to see the results in the yard.

Okay...listening to FlyLady really works. I've been walking the talk and it's helped a lot.

TA DAs:
*Homeschooled
*Swept laundry room
*Cleared biggest hotspot & wiped counter
*Wiped sinks & counter in my bathroom
*Washed & dried one load, folded one
*Mended clothes (mostly sewing on buttons)--this was my anti-p. chore
*Decluttered two of DH's dresser drawers. Now everything fits!
*Vacuumed up hamster litter mess kids created
*Put all my fling in the back of the van--this was my room rescue; it was piled behind my bedroom door.
*Wiped top of fridge
*Put a lazy susan under my vinegars in the cupboard
*Reorganized my buttons & sewing stuff

Get this...my 2yo has taken off his diaper and is running to the potty every so often! How easy is that? I've just been letting him run around naked (since he pulled off his shirt). Who wants to interfere with potty training? I think it's because he sees the baby in diapers now and doesn't want them any more.

Meanwhile, my almost-4yo is still having some bowel trouble and occasional potty accidents. Oh, add to the TA DA: steam cleaned spots from carpet.

Hail FlyLady! It really works. Smiling

P.S. Thanks for the recipe, Heidi, it sounds wonderful! I need to get some buttermilk.

Susannah's picture

Afternoon!

Couldn't get on the site this morning.

Jo, your menus always make my mouth water. We're having spaghetti tonight, compliments of Prego. Easy! Glad your neck is better. Hope it all gets straightened out by vacation time.

TA DA:
I did the e-mails this morning, but still have the 15-min. zone work to do. Also, we had our playdate and I went ahead and served Olivia's cake & blew up balloons during that. Also, did some laundry and pressed & sewed a button on DH's shirt for his meeting today. I feel so wifely! Laughing out loud

PODA:
*Lunch
*Zone work
*Library
*Fold & put away laundry

I put a library hold online on Leanne's Saving Dinner book, so hopefully that will be in by next month. I might go ahead and sign up for one month of menu mailer. I love her recipes, but I'm afraid it will cost more grocery money to follow her plan, so that's why I've been putting it off. Still, you can't put a price on your health, and her meals are healthy, and every one has been tasty so far. Not to mention the time saved. I've been sooo enjoying knowing what's for dinner every night with my menus, but it's work putting it together and some meals have turned out greasier than I wanted. I guess I can do four meals a week instead and do meals-from-the-cupboard on the other nights.

My playgroup friend is on Body for Life and she says those recipes are really good too.

Darn, I forgot to pick up buttermilk last night. Sad

Well, better go get my kids fed. I'm running late with lunch. They had cake and probably won't eat anyway.

Later!

Susannah

heidic's picture

Afternoon, Susannah-you pr

Afternoon,

Susannah-you probably can substitute milk for the buttermilk. I think it was mainly to give the soup a creamier texture than a watery soup. Can't hurt, huh? famous last words...

We had a playdate here this morning as well. DD2 is napping now and then we need to take DS9 to his pottery class at the art center this afternoon. He had a half day of school today and usually gets bussed to the art center from school so today I need to take him.

PODA
put away laundry languishing in the basket
make dinner

Not too much left today. Pretty caught up housewise. Gonna be stuck home all day tomorrow with the car in the shop so we will probably make cookies, maybe invite my mom over for coffee...

Gonna go,have a good one.

yucky weather today

We are in a High Wind Advisory for the rest of the day, sustained winds 30, with gusts 55+mph. I can't even see the dirt road in front of the house or the corrals behind the house. Bleh! It's about 70F outside, but you can't go out to enjoy it, the wind nearly knocks you over!

I cleaned the bathrooms, but forget about dusting! It's a useless task today.

Think I will scrapbook while Chance is asleep. I happen to be online a lot today bidding on something on Ebay. DH will have to pick DD6 up from school, as the auction ends right when the bell rings. LOL!

Becky's picture

hi all

I still have a cold and have done pretty much nothing but sleep today. I think I mostly slept it off though.

I'll go do some laundry now I guess.

Last Post For Awhile

Well Flyfriends, this is it. I have followed Flylady's advice on vacations, but tomorrow will bring too many things to do to spend any time online. So, have a really great rest of February!

TADA

vacuumed out the van
fling-boogie in the LR
printed out driving directions from Mapquest-LOVE them, they have always been really accurate!
printed out the reservation confirmation e-mails
did an on-line mail hold

straightened cellar

PODA
read paper
move tent, cooler, tote bags of clothes, and sleeping bags to near the door for loading tomorrow night.

We are supposed to have snow/sleet/freezing rain/rain tomorrow night into Saturday. Of course it's been beautiful for a week. Oh well, we'll just go slowly and hopefully drive right through it quickly. We are leaving really early so the kids will sleep through the first big chunk of the drive, so I'm putting them all to bed early tonight and waking them up early tomorrow so they will be good and sleepy tomorrow night! Smiling

Bye guys!

Hello.....

Becky, I hope that you continue to feel better. Smiling

Well, motivation by osmosis didn't help ~ so I finally decided that I had better just get a move on.
I can report that I, personally, today did the following:

Cleaned the Cat Litter.
Dusted.
Cleared my *Real* Desktop.
Cleared my *virtual* desktop.
Readied over 100 books for donation, tomorrow. (Which entailed marking them with numbers for tracking purposes and entering all of their numbers into a database).
Watered Plants.
Started List of Activities/Things to do for when my mom gets here.

Today was the day that housekeeping came, too. Disability has ordered housekeeping twice a week. (I know, life is rough....) but I hate it! It feels very awkward. But they changed all of the linens, remade the beds, mopped all of the floors, cleaned the bathroom, wiped down the kitchen counters (which were already clean) and vacuumed.

Left for me for the day is putting out the hotspot on my coffee table and still figuring out the things that need to get done prior to my moms arrival ~ and I have to fix dinner.... which requires me to figure out what I am going to make ~ so off I go.

Hoping everyone is having a nice evening.
Smiling

Hello

Hello Ladies (whatever happened to our gentleman?) --
I've been errant and truant lately. With grown kids I'm not as busy at home as you younger women are. (That is NOT a complaint, by the way.)

The shock of my mom's death has worn off, and now some days I'm just overwhelmed with missing her. And having to euthanize a cat and a dog just two weeks apart in January hasn't helped.

My, that was a depressing and self-pitying paragraph, wasn't it? Quite unlike me.

The good news is that our church has finally found a new minister who begins in a couple weeks. And they promise that the construction on our new church building will begin ANY DAY NOW. (They've said that for months.)

I've been checking in on you, and I just thought I'd post, since Bronwyn posted too.

Good Afternoon, Lois- wasn

Good Afternoon,

Lois- wasn't aware of your mom's passing, thoughts go your way. My mom lost her mother this summer and put a beloved pet to sleep weeks later as well. It is a difficult time but they are both in better places is how we look at it. take care.

Susannah-did you try the soup? was the diaper removal with the toddler for good or for naught? Still can't get DD almost 3 to sit on the potty more than twice a week!! even resorted to bribery with Hershey kisses and you know what she said..."I don't want any candy,it gives you cavities." By the time she is potty trained we will start buying her Depends!!!

Carianne is Bronwyn, huh. i have been absent awhile. hello to you as well. Hope things are working out for you.

Well van is still at the shop but having a mandatory at home day is good. DD and i and the dog took a brisk walk around the block this morning. Then i proceeded to do a mini spring clean of the house, deal with paperwork, call Mom,wash bedsheets,etc...

I love how casually you mention that, Heidi! I'd probably list each and every task to juice as much TA DA out of it as possible.

Jo, have a happy vacation! Bon voyage and enjoy the warm weather! Can you lift your arm yet?

Lois, I'm so sorry about the pets. I know how awful that feels. Sad

I got some bad news via e-mail this morning. I've been kinda down today as a result, but I think it's also had the result of bringing me back to reality.

I haven't tried the soup yet since my menu was already set & it was easier to do what was planned. But I fully intend to try it! Probably as a first course for one of my meals next week. It sounds really good. I got a berry pie recipe off allrecipes.com that I'm going to try next week, too. It sounds great...blueberries *and* blackberries!

Jamie, aren't those snaggletooths adorable? Smiling

Cari, you've stayed busy. I hope you're not doing too much! You probably get tired of people fussing over you, though. Smiling I'm glad you do have housekeeping.

I wasn't able to get on the site this morning, which was probably a good thing for flying and praying and such. But I did spend too long reading e-mail, etc.

TA DAs:
*Folded laundry, stacked diapers. Still one load in dryer
*Planned next week's menus & shopping list
*Vacuumed LR (Threw all the STUFF on the kids' train table...have yet to sort that out)
*Flung a couple of items.

I heard water running in the distance for the longest time and finally discovered that someone had broken the handle off the toilet in the guest bathroom! So I turned off the water to that toilet until DH takes a look at it. KIDS! Arrrg.

Speaking of DH, he's been knocking trees over in the back yard. So there's a pile of downed trees out there that needs chain-sawing. He said he'd work on grading this afternoon. Once those are done, he can SEED! WOOHOO! We might actually have grass to play on this summer.

Love y'all!

berry pie? yummy!

Can you point me to that recipe please, Susannah?

I'm so sorry about your mother and the animals, Lois.

I guess the cold wasn't quite gone because I slept all day today too. Or maybe it was just steroid withdrawal (which I will be finished with by the end of the month, at last). I did go to the supermarket yesterday and get food for the rest of the month.

Everything Went Fine

With DD's tonsil/adenoids surgery yesterday. She is in some pain when her pain meds wear off (which unfortunately is about an hour before the next dose is due!), but is eating us out of house & home with ice cream, sherbert, popsicles and puddings. She is drinking pretty well, too, so we are thankful.

Just popping in while I was up cleaning her up from a #2 accident - messy, too. Now, it's back to bed for as many hours as she will sleep. We're staying home all weekend and resting with her.

Cya!

Vonnie

Susannah's picture

Yay!

I'm glad all went well, Vonnie. I'm sure there had to be some anxiety with surgery, even if it's "routine." How are you going to wean her off the ice cream? Laughing out loud

The blackberry and blueberry pie is in the top 10 recipes at allrecipes.com (click on Top 10 Recipes). The reviews rave about it! I recommend reading the reviews because sometimes people add things that make the recipe even better...in this case, cornstarch to help with runniness and a bit extra sugar when the fruit is tart. I plan to use frozen berries.

I just got back from swimming with the kids at the Y. Actually, I took them to McD's afterward. I had planned on visiting my grandmother, but forgot my bra and felt self-conscious going someplace where people know me. I'm a rather ample nursing mom, so it's obvious if I go without. At McD's I could hide out on the playground & hold baby in front of my chest! Laughing out loud I hope to get back out there tomorrow to visit. I probably have to go back to Hartwell again tonight, too, to get the groceries for next week's menu.

I forgot a few things for swimming, so I've just written up a "swimming checklist" as a guide for next time. It's a load to carry, with 5 kids, two of whom are in diapers.

I hope DH will be able to work on either the garage or yard when he gets home. He promised he would, but he may be tired after landscaping all morning.

Today was a funeral for a friend of mine. I'm sad that I wasn't able to go. I need to write a card to his mom.

Got the wet things in the wash, and need to take care of baby then fold some laundry. Fish sticks and other quickies for supper tonight.

Love y'all!

2 loads done ready to be put away. I always whiz thru the washing and folding but go SPLAT when it's time to carry it all upstairs and put away.
That's about it. Stayed home all day and just hung out with the kids while DH stayed in bed. still feeling bad with chills and fever. Poor guy. Has no appetite either. Gonna let him rest and offer fluids and Day Quil as needed.

Gonna take the kids to pick out a video tonight, maybe DH will venture down to the family room to watch with us.

Me Too

I can't get on the site in the mornings (ET), either. I gathered that Lynn was working on whatever it is.

I haven't seen Radio yet. I love to watch movies, but always feel guilty taking time away to do so. Our homegroup is going together to see The Passion of the Christ on opening day; just got the tickets this morning. I feel I need to see it, and yet in a way I don't want to! I felt that way about Schindler's List too. Anybody else planning to see it this week?

Went to church and (DA DA DA DUMMMM!) DH finally went with us! He's been saying he will for weeks, but usually has a bout with insomnia or a sinus headache come on that ruins the plans. But today, in spite of a sleepless night, he came anyway! And it was a nice time! He and Brian (our pastor) agreed to get together for lunch this week. As far as temperament goes, those two guys are twins.

DH and I had a yummy lunch today: BLATs! I got this recipe off allrecipes.com too. Basically, you cook bacon, crumble it, and wrap it in a warmed flour tortilla (I used whole wheat) along with: ranch dressing, chopped tomatoes, lettuce, and sliced avocados. It was really very good. DH requested two more helpings.

Emma's had rice cereal for two days running now. She scarfs it right up! Last night, she was crying for more between spoonfuls (I think she was also getting tired). Maybe she's teething, because my usually happy baby has been more fussy last night & today.

TA DA: When I got home the place was a disaster, but instead of pitying myself I ignored it while I made lunch, then relaxed a few minutes, then systematically, starting in the doorway, cleaned up and vacuumed. The only thing left in there is the mess on the train table, which I have only partly sorted out. Tonight, I will work on the kitchen. It needs a good mopping.

I love you guys! I really do. Thanks for being my friends.

Love,

Susannah

Back home

Hi guys!

Well, the kids and I returned from Mesa last nite. We had a great trip - I absolutely loved the desert!! We lived in Texas for 2 years, but I had never really spent time in the desert. Great to see my folks and do all kinds of activities with the kids. I have to say it was a rude awakening to return to NY though. The roads were horrible from the airport to our town - about 75 miles or so - blowing and drifting snow, several cars in the ditch.

So today was a recovery day - unpacked, did laundry, picked up, etc. Fortunately DH had done a lot of chores while we were gone and also made dinner tonite. Back on the treadmill (so to speak) tomorrow.

I'll post in the am!

Hope everyone is doing well - sounds like you all have been busy!

you don't NEED to see anything....

Susannah, if you don't want to see it, don't. Or if you want to see it some other time but not now, see it another time. I figure plenty of people led perfectly good lives before movies were ever invented, so there is nothing wrong with skipping a movie you don't want to see, no matter what it is. (And I have a problem with the way this movie has been marketed, but that is O/T and I will start another thread about it sometime.)

For the first time last week, one of our cats peed on the carpet. YUCK!!!!! I had heard that the smell is unliveable but had never experienced it. Fortunately it was downstairs and our bedroom is upstairs, so I did not have to try to sleep with the smell. I cleaned it and Febreze'd the heck out of it and it did nothing, so yesterday we had to go to Home Depot and rent a carpet steamer. We switched off carpet cleaning and I think the smell is pretty much gone now. I put a little dish of cat food next to the spot to discourage them from re-using it. The cat is not sick or anything; I had some dirty cat litter in a garbage bag and took it downstairs and put it next to the door for an hour or so while I did some other cleaning, and meanwhile she got confused when she smelled the litter in the bag, and peed on the carpet next to the door. Fortunately, she tried to "cover it over" by scratching up the carpet, which made it easy for me to pick up the carpet and clean the padding underneath, which helped with the smell. What an ordeal!

Becky's picture

update on smell

We've had an unusual rainy day and some of the smell is back but it's very mild and I don't notice it after 30 seconds or so. I am NOT happy about this--it has never happened before. They have always been so meticulous about the litter box!

I am going to try the FLYbaby thing, again......

I have been receiving the e-mails again.... (So far I have only been deleting them....)

I have been so overwhelmed with getting started on the prep for my mother's arrival next week.....even if the idea of flying (with my health) overwhelms me ~ you guys post here with such frequency that I am hoping that I will become motivated by osmosis. Laughing out loud

So I am going to give it a try and re-throw my (dirty) towel in the ring.

ACK. Starting from square one. Ick.

I hate that feeling.

Sad

If it's not one thing ~ It's your Mother.

Hi Heidi!

I was somewhat confused seeing your birthday wishes as my birthday is in June. Laughing out loud
My mothers' birthday is on Tuesday.... but I don't know how my birthday was entered in as 2/21 (Nor do I know how I am listed as 43..... LOL I will be 38 in June.) Smiling
When I clicked on the BronwynMacy name link it took me to my page.... which had my correct birthday listed ~ but I sincerely thank you for your birthday wishes. Very nice of you.
Happy Half birthday to you and Happy Birthday to your friend.....
I am off to make a posting to Lynn to have that info dropped off.... Laughing out loud
I was momentarily confused Puzzled and made older, to boot!!
Eye-wink

Thanks, LoisD!

Becky.....

A white vinegar (4 Parts) and water solution (2 Parts) dabbed onto the offending area should take out the remainder of the smell ~ as well as discourage any return "visits."
Saturate the area pretty well and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes ~ then blot up all of the excess water with paper toweling. (You'll need just about a roll of paper towels for this).
It works, every time.
Cat urine is the worst odor to try and be rid of!
