I don't support a draft. I doI don't support a draft. I don't think that citizens have an obligation to serve their country in a military capacity. I think that it should be our free choice whether or not we dedicate our skills to our country in that capacity. I also don't think it's right to coerce people into fighting for a cause they might not agree with. And, I absolutely don't trust Bush. But I wouldn't support a draft even if my best friend in the whole word were President. Danna =] ![]() I heard a while ago that TheI heard a while ago that The Powers That Be were testing the waters for creating draft boards because the troops are spread thin. I don't think a draft would be nessasary if we'd pay our troops a wage that's commesurate with their skills. My brother quit the Navy when his reenlistment came up because he could make so much more in the private sector doing the exact same thing he was doing in the Navy. So guess what? He's working for a civilian company that contracts with the Navy, and he's back at the same job he had before, except the Navy is paying him more as a civilian and on ship he has the rank equivalent of a captain, and his own quarters. The Navy is paying millions of dollars to contract out work that they could do themselves if they used that money on the salaries of their own men. The draft wouldn't be nessessary if the armed forces could pay a living wage. In some areas, a lieutant's pay puts them below the poverty line. Some of our service people are eligible for food stamps. It's shameful. Post new comment |
