Work

thesouthernhomemaker's picture

I've been a homemaker ever since I quit my 40 hour a week job. My husband and I got married something like a week or two later. We both thought it would take six months, at most, for me to find another job.

Oh, how wrong we were. A year later, I'm still unemployed. I've looked; I've applied; I've gone on interviews. My most recent rejections came from Starbucks and a pawn shop.

In the wake of the pawn shop rejection, I sat my husband down and told him, for the hundredth time, that I'd much rather return to college than work.

My husband has never wanted me to stay a homemaker, but he's completely cool with me being a homemaker/student. On the condition that I trim the fat from our budget. No more cigarettes, cable, cell phone data plan.

And I'm fine with that. I did the math: cutting out those things will save as much money as me working a part time job.

Planned next blog entry: quitting smoking!
