Well, I'M baking like crazy!
I don't know if I'm over compensating for everything else I'm falling behind on these days, but I'm baking almost all of our breads.
I have a Herman Sourdough Starter and a Friendship Bread Starter that have both been going since just after Christmas. I use the Herman for sourdough rounds and loaves and the friendship starter for sweet bread and coffee cake style treats. I've made sourdough pancakes and dinner rolls, too...all with Herman recipes from All Recipes.
I've also adapetd a recipe to make a wheat bread that my family likes for sandwiches, and I use the same adaptation (just adapted a bit differently) for buns. I can get 8 hamburger-style buns and 6 hot-dog style buns out of one recipe!
My usual baking is: 2 loaves of wheat bread (every-other week), one batch of sourdough each week, (I usually do one baguette and one pan of rolls), the buns, and one batch of something sweet. I end up tossing together at least one batch of biscuits during the week, too.
I love the way the house smells on "baking day," and I love that baking bread can be done in between whatever else is happening at home!

my daughter is the one doing the manic baking in our house. Mostly cakes though and we had to rein her in a bit because DH and I were putting on far too much weight.
Oddly enough it started in school. I say oddly because my experience of cooking in school was laughable, and hers looked like it was going the same way when they were asked to bring in lettuce and other ingredients to make a salad in the first year! How many green salads do you know that will last throughout a school day (with bus journeys)!
Anyway in her second year they made Victoria sponge cakes in a thousand different ways and she's really very good at them. She got a bit over-excited with draping fondant icing over everything but she's been cured of that now.
One day I'll let her try bread... maybe a mix to start with. DS made bread in school and came back eager to try it but I'm having enough problems with the basics of getting dinner ready and keeping the house from being sucked into the laundry pile, so DD was having to make her cakes herself. I found that it was easier for me to cope if I didn't watch her because I knew if I stood over her I'd have kittens and try to do it for her, so I just sit in the next room and if she calls me I will assist.
It's a good skill to acquire I guess. I can bake but I'm far too lazy and not desperate enough to eat cake!

Love to bake
I usually bake one loaf of bread per week. Saturday seems to be "cookie day" so I make a batch of what my husband is hungry for. It is usually oatmeal cookies. I like to make desserts but since it is just the two of us, we don't need to be eating all of these goodies. When I do make something we try to make it last a few days. My latest one was blackberry cobbler. Next I am going to try blueberry scones. I saw some at a bakery and of course I must try to make some:)
Any fun St. Patrick's recipes?
Anyone here have any St. Patty's Day recipes they would like to share that have been a success? We are having a potluck at work and I wanted to try and be festive with food.
Egg-free baking
Hi Lenora, and everyone else! DH does our bread-baking all sour-dough. I don't know what we'd do without it - I love his home-made bread.
My obsession at the moment is egg-free cakes soaked in yoghurt or buttermilk in the Nourishing Traditions style. This strange combo came about as DD1 cannot tolerate eggs and I've got into Nourishing Traditions in a big way. The lacto-fermentation which happens during the soaking in live dairy means that egg-free cakes are much easier to do - lacto-fermentation produces a light structure due to the bacterial action, as in sour-dough. The cakes it produces are so delicious. Best chocolate brownies I've ever tasted! (OK, so chocolate isn't so Nourishing Traditions, but you can't have everything
