Morning ladies! I'm ready

jennye's picture

Morning ladies!

I'm ready for a weekend at HOME. Not even going to church tomorrow (even though I was supposed to drop something off at the annual 4-H banquet being held tomorrow afternoon).

Doesn't mean I'll be sitting around, though. History test due TOMORROW night (not Monday as I had thought!), so I have four chapters to do this weekend. Also, kids want to put up the tree and decorations, so need to do that (after cleaning the house first, of course. No idea where to put the tree this year!!).

I think I have had a couple

Andrea's picture

I think I have had a couple of green messages lately - your post must be reviewed by the admin. or something. Also a couple of other times a white screen appears and it says server error or something like that. Today it worked though!

Vonnie's picture

I was up for a good part of the night. Tornado warnings and such here. No damage near us, thankfully. But I am really tired this morning. Maybe everyone will get out to work quickly and leave me to my nice quiet office.

Tomorrow is field trip with DD. Prediction is for rain to turn to snow during the day (no accumulation, but just snow is enough to make folks panic around here). I sure hope it doesn't deteriorate before we get back from the trip. At best it is supposed to rain ALL DAY. Awful day to be on a school bus.

Well, I don't have time to post my TADAs or PODA so I'll run for now.

I didn't see anything from you in the spam filter lately. The site software DESPERATELY needs upgrading, and I just have not had the chance to do it. Soon, I think. I hope.

Please send me a PM with your email address, so I don't lose track of you again!

Sheesh Vonnie that is

Andrea's picture

Sheesh Vonnie that is craziness! I have to say that here in Upstate NY, city or rural, I would get help also. People are amazing here - I continue to be surprised and pleased with the hospitality, being a Westerner myself!

Crazy week at work - got everything done plus a bi of shopping. Nothing tonite, thank God. Tomorrow this and that - shopping for cookie ingredients with DS and also stuff to make an appetizer for the Xmas party we are going to in the evening.

Have a good nite everyone!

I have been getting locked

jennye's picture

I have been getting locked out alot, too. Usually it happens after I have commented on another thread. I get a green message that says comment has been queued for moderation. then the very next time I try to comment, white screen and it says system unavailable (or something to that effect). It's usually a couple of days before I'm allowed to post again, but has been up to a week. It's been going on for about 6 months.

Hi Vonnie!!!

Welcome back!

Lynn Siprelle, Editor

Hey vonnie! Good to "see"

jennye's picture

Hey vonnie! Good to "see" you around again! I remember you having problems with the church people, glad you got out of that.

It's COLD here today! Wind chill is in the teens and there is only about an inch of snow (but a couple more expected). I ventured to town and ran some errands, then got too cold with the car seat in and outs, so came on home. I got a bit of Christmas shopping done, I'm about half done I guess.

2 1/2 pages of my paper done, just need to tackle the rest, then work on history. Game to cheer tonight, DH is working today. I need to do a bit of bookkeeping stuff today, too. Dinner is concession stand (they have awesome little pizzas!)

Ugh! I get so tired of

jennye's picture

Ugh! I get so tired of getting locked out of this site!! Lynn, come on!! Help a girl out! I gotta have my TNH fix every morning. LOL!

Ok, well, no flying today. Been studying and doing some office things (newspaper column, community newsletter, planning our Fire Dept. Holiday dinner that's this Sunday). DH had a fire today, about 100 acre grass fire, so I watched that and listened to the scanner for a bit (was a few miles south of the house, had a clear view and could see the flames! Cool!). Went to the fire station and took inventory on what we would need (and stole some coke and candybars that are stashed in there. shhhhh). So see, lots of nothing today.

Got a brocolli caserole in the oven for DH to take to Lion's meeting tonight, not sure what I'll fix the kids. After the majority of them go to bed I will do my history test. Tomorrow I shall clean. Though it doesn't look too bad as it is. So, I'm happy. I have whites to fold, too, Linda. Bleh. I hate whites. Matching all those socks! Ugh!

Happy Saturday!

julhome's picture

Oh, Linda, that post sounded sooo cozy! I would love guacamole and tea and jammies and a nice fire!

Thanks for the pm with your email address, Vonnie. I'd love it if the rest of you would send yours, as well. I feel like I'm starting over at everything these days! Shared a nice email with Susannah recently.

I LOVE my kitty! Never used to be much of an animal person, but they are seeming to grow on me, since my Miss Chloe has helped me so much with depression these past few years. Who knows how many I could end up with if the circumstances are right in the future!

Vonnie, that Cmas tree sounds like sooo much fun! I am narrating our cantata again this year, and I love to be part of something like that. Maybe I'll join choir regularly again after the holidays...we'll see. Sorry you ran out of gas...I feel like I'm coming due for my luck to run out soon as well. Sometimes I think I'm pushing the limits on those fumes lately.

Tomorrow evening is our Cmas party for the real estate office. I'm really looking forward to it. As a new person in the office it will be a good chance for me to get to know some of the others a little better. Just had a nice long chat with another agent a few minutes ago. She's known my family for decades and has been good to look in on my Gma and be a blessing to her. Who knows...maybe I've got a new friend!

Baking with Mom Monday night and Tuesday. Have a good week, everyone!

Just me here I guess.

jennye's picture

Just me here I guess. LOL!

I did 4 loads of laundry yesterday, sewed new EMT patches on DH's uniforms, and that was about it. Was kinda down in the dumps all day. Hopefully today will be better. DD11 had cheer practice after school (and forgot to let me know!), DH actually cooked dinner for us (after several phone calls and texts asking where something was).

Had a bad dream last night, woke up at 3:30. Tried to get my mind off the dream and then head was filled with more stuff, no chance on going back to sleep. Maybe I can talk DS3 into a nap later on. But for today, I'll try to do what didn't get done yesterday. At least there is no rush now on making the house REALLY clean, prospective buyer isn't coming Friday afterall (why I was down yesterday).

I am here! Just afraid to post much as I have been losing them!

Hope you are feeling better Jenny!

In the middle of a busy week here - did a very little Xmas Decor yesterday - took corn stalks down. Church meeting last nite. Band concert tonite. Book club tomorrow. Dance and Christmasing Friday. Basketball Saturday and getting tree. Backed out of Christmas party to relieve stress. Concert on Sunday plus church. Flying? NOt much= mainly maintaining. Need to stop by store on way home tonite.

See ya-

Well, I only have a moment

Vonnie's picture

Well, I only have a moment to jump on here. I'm still at work but getting ready to call it a day. We have our final rehearsal for the choir performance tonight followed by potluck dinner. I have a white chicken chili in the crockpot and DH is supervising DD making a Holy Cow Cake. So I should be good there. Just too tired to climb up in that 20 foot living Christmas tree to sing.

Anyway, my day got off to a rough start. I ran out of gas on the way to the gas station after dropping DD off at school. In my 24 years of driving, I've never done that. I run it down to a drop or two, though, so my time was coming. Luckily DH was at home after working last night so he brought me some gas and I was only 5 minutes late to work. Ran out right in the middle of a busy stretch of road, though, and in the center lane no less. Two nice guys came and pushed me off the main road onto a side street. That's one nice thing about living in the south - the hospitality. That wouldn't happen just anywhere, I am told.

Well, I'll go for now. This weekend will be busy for me, so I may not be on here much until Monday or Tuesday. I have a meeting going into a lunch meeting tomorrow, then the choir thing Saturday night, Sunday morning, Sunday night and Monday night. After Monday night I think I can finally breathe!

Y'all have a great weekend!

Sound Busy, Andrea!

jennye's picture

Sound Busy, Andrea! Probably a good idea to back out of the Christmas party. Wanna come to ours? LOL! Actually, first one we are ever having here at our house/barn. wish me luck!

I got the house dusted, vacuumed and mopped yesterday. Realized when I went to pick kids up from school that I was nearly out of fuel, managed to make it to town and filled up ($1.75!!). Got pizza for dinner, since DH was working.

Of course last night was when the bathroom sink decided to clog up, so I went to town AGAIN today for Draino, and grabbed a few things for the hospitality room tonight at the game. We are pulling the cheerleaders out of 6th and 7th period (PE and Home Ec) and going to let them practice some more, I need to run that. It's their first BB game to cheer on the SIDELINES (my elem. girls have always cheered from the bleachers), plus we have TWO different dance routines. One for the girls BB game, one for the boys. Girls are going to inlaws to spend the night, DH has fire meeting. Will wing it for dinner (concession stand).

Jenny

Wow. Can't believe

jennye's picture

Wow. Can't believe Christmas is come and gone. And it was a pretty good one. so far, no complaints from the kids about what they didn't get (I know they all wanted a Nintendo DS really bad). DS6 was a little upset that he couldn't break out his Legos right away (but all those little pieces among all the wrapping paper and other things just wasn't going to mix). He and DH did get them out and put them together today.

The house is in some resemblence of order. Sorta. Did 4 loads of laundry (2 were DH's work things. They had to order brand new pants and shirts for him, had to wash both seperately. Plus I have to hem his pants, they came unfinished at the cuff. Only got one done, 3 to go). Folded it all, too (whoohoo!!)

Rest of the day has been spent moving video equipment around. DH wanted the TV in our bedroom (25 inch) switched with the one in the old office (19 inch). Also to move the PS2 into the old office so HE can watch TV in the living room (also a 25 inch) and the kids can still play games away from him. I would LOVE to have a bigger tv someday, maybe a flatscreen. I can imagine playing Guitar Hero on it! LOL!

DH works tomorrow, leftover turkey for dinner tonight. Yesterday's dinner was fairly unstressful, thanks to Reynolds turkey bags, stove top stuffing and doing most of the cooking the day before. Tomorrow it's back to work!

Morning folks!! Linda, we

jennye's picture

Morning folks!!

Linda, we had a pool when I was growing up in GA and we drained and closed it during the winter. I guess it doesn't get THAT cold where you are, but if it's too cold to swim in it in the winter, why do all that work on it all season?

I got nearly all the wrapping done yesterday. Still a couple more things to do. Tonight is part one of extended family gathering at the village community building, I'll make a brocolli casserole (I get in trouble with a few cousins if I don't make it) and come up with a dessert. Need to clean up the office and kids living room a bit, in case company decides to crash or stop by here. Guess that means taking all the empty boxes that contained decorations and tree to the barn.

Tree up, Jenny? Hopefully yours will stay up!

Animals do help don't they Julie? As much work as they are!

DH's Xmas party was nice last nite. This and that today. My Mom wants to see a gingerbread house exhibits today at www.eastmanhouse.org/ in the city. We'll see. Church this am. I'd like to do my cards.

Busy day! Hopefully it will be a good one -

I am up early too!!

LindaM's picture

I am putting in the last load of laundry. Jeans! Those are easy to wash, dry, and put away so I am feeling good. Drinking my morning coffee and getting ready to tackle the dining room!! Wish me luck!

how I spent my xmas vacation...

LindaM's picture

I cannot wait. 1/2 day on Friday and off until the 4th. My goal... these laundry baskets. Why? They have finally almost gotten me in trouble. Took clothes to cleaners and they did not return my best pair of jeans. They make me look as if I am superskinny and I get compliments on them all the time. I called the cleaners insisting I brought them in. Made a late night venture to Chicos to buy 2 pair because I needed them for the weekend. Chewed out the cleaners for losing them... Yes, they were found. Sitting on one of the laundry baskets! Then, Saturday morn, dd is getting in her cheer outfit, bottoms are in my room and top (last we saw it, was on the floor in her room)was missing. I told her 100 times to hang it up. We have to leave in 15 minutes and cannot find it. Yes, it was in a toy bucket in her room, but only after I had upheaved every basket around here. Geez, it's not like we wear all these clothes. Why can I not get them put away!! Must be an illness called "I don't have time". My weekend schedule was cheer competition yesterday, short nap because I have the crud, and then DS bd party. Today, church (may skip) and Nutcracker. Weekend gone.

I know that when there is a big thing to do you are supposed to break it into baby steps, I know, do one basket at a time. I will try. I am real close to taking them all over to the clothes donation box and just dumping. I probably would not miss one thing in there.

Julie, I have 2 cats, Emma and Sophie. I have never not had a cat my whole life. I love them. When no one else cares, a cat will come sit beside you to be pet.

Yall have a great rest of the weekend, I am off to fold laundry Sad

Hi Everybody...

julhome's picture

Need to do some serious planning about when all of the Christmas stuff is going to happen. Found out the other day that two of my stepdad's three kids are coming from other states the weekend before. They've not seen each other in 17 years! Mom doesn't always have a gathering, but she is now, and I'm enlisted to help. Actually am glad for that, because holidays in our family are usually pretty lame, and I was down in the dumps about it. Now we've got something to look forward to!

BUT--my dad's in the hospital. He was admitted on Thursday with MRSA. Only just this morning got confirmation that it is not a generic staph infection. On floor time at the real estate office now--will stop to see him on the way home.

You all have such great stuff going on...I don't know if it makes me more jealous or more tired!

Have a good week,
Jul

No flying for me yesterday.

jennye's picture

No flying for me yesterday. Lots of cheer practice, we did great at the game (my cheerleaders, anyway. Both teams lost horribly). And no irate parents at me (always a good thing!).

DH wants me to go to bigger town with him today. City wants him to have 2nd opinion on some high bloodpressure they found at his hiring physical. Then we need do some food shopping for the village fire dept. for our dinner on Sunday. Any time I spend at home the next 3 days need to be either studying or cooking (but do I HAVE to clean the kitchen?).

Morning Everyone - Sounds

Andrea's picture

Morning Everyone -
Sounds like we are doing great. Linda - Jenny's easy recipe is yummy - your kids might even like it. It would be great with turkey. I need to figure out what to do with the ham - I'm thinking scalloped potatoes and ham and/or bean and ham soup. Any other ideas?

Today I'm getting my hair done and mopping the kitchen floor -
Quick grocery run -
That's about it!
Andrea

Ham

jennye's picture

Andrea, Quiche? the bean and ham soup sounds good. Jumbalaya (or just throw in your own concoction of stuff in a pot and call it good).

Eggs and ham. GREEN eggs and ham. LOL! (just add some green food coloring to the eggs. The kids would get a kick out of it!)

Always good to bag it up in small baggies and freeze it. get it out for some soup or something whenever you need it.

Morning!! Glad no tornados

jennye's picture

Morning!!

Glad no tornados near you, Vonnie.

I'm going to finish up some laundry, probably do some desk work for DH (about time for us to figure out renewing our operating loan. It won't be a good day. I'm already taking tylenol). Need to bake some banana bread and cupcakes for bake sale tomorrow. Finish up my research paper and start on history.

Jenny
http://heresyourtrouble.blogspot.com/

Good job on the laundry,

jennye's picture

Good job on the laundry, Linda! I have three loads to fold myself, plus another two to be washed. Luckily, I only have two baskets to put the stuff in, so it can't get too backed up. LOL! Did the dining room get done?

I got the Buckeyes and mini pecan pies made. Spent most of the day playing PS2 and snuggling with the kiddos. I haven't slept in my own bed in 3 nights. either been floor or sofa. LOL!

I need to take a shower. Also need to make ANOTHER batch of buckeyes (seems to be a high demand around the house), and the sour cream cookies, let the kids frost those. Last night DD11 decided she wanted to make some pillows for some family members. Information that would have been good a month ago rather than 2 days before Christmas. But, I think I have some fabric and stuffing for at least a couple of them. Also wanted to go to town and buy some firewood. Or go to inlaws and cut up a downed tree over there (DH cutting the tree, not me).

Need to get turkey out of freezer and find room in fridge for it. Finish wrapping (not much). Couple piddly things. Maybe DH can handle the firewood getting, I don't have time for a trip to town.

Good Morning! Hope DH can

Andrea's picture

Good Morning!
Hope DH can get his BP under control Jenny.

A day at home for me finally, much needed. We hope to get our tree and get it up, also do some decorating throughout the house. Running to the store with DD in a bit to get a few things - making meatball subs for dinner and a veggie plate - my folks are coming over to decorate the tree with us.

See ya!

Happy Saturday,

jennye's picture

Happy Saturday, folks!

Andrea, I'm sure he will (DH's BP). This dr put him on some different meds and is sure that the problem will go away altogether when he loses some weight.

I spent all night last night cooking, and didn't eat a thing! LOL! Today is DH's day to bring dinner to work (they alternate each shift in alphabetical order). I whipped up an extra large batch of stuffed shells and made an apple pie. Then I made a huge pan of beef green chile enchiladas for tomorrows dinner. I'm going to make another pan of chicken ones and a dessert, too.

My kitchen look horrible, despite me doing all the dishes. DS3 decided to play in the flour on the counters from the pie crust, the snack bar became a paper breeding ground. But I need to spend a good portion of the day studying.

Jenny

Cheer competition today..

LindaM's picture

Wow the week went fast. Cheer competition today. It is downtown and we don't need to be there til noon. DH and DS are actually going to go. WOW. DH played some gig last night and didn't get home til late, so we will see. It would be nice for him to see where his $$ is going.

Yard guy came and planted the rest of the plants. Charged me $5 per planting. That's a winner. I will get some more plants for him later once this cold spell (40's) goes away.

Still need to get the tree up. Also need to make Xmas cards. DD's list was reasonalbe, so ordered some stuff for DD from American Girl. This may be the last year for her and the AG stuff. Did order her cheerleader outfit that is custom made for her doll to match hers. Hopefully that will be done by Xmas. DS wants a HD video camera and digital camera. I think he is dreaming that Santa is a millionaire. Need to think about that one. Hate to disappoint since this is the first year they all know I am Santa. DD is a good gift giver and has already made a list of things for me. Now if only DH would listen to her.

No flying today.

No flying, except kitchen is

jennye's picture

No flying, except kitchen is now cleaned up. Did my bookkeeping, balanced checkbook, did ball game, paper nearly done (all typed up, just need to adjust the formats and do the works cited page).

Tired. Off to bed.

I'm done for the semester!!

jennye's picture

I'm done for the semester!! Whoohoo! just took last exam (History), made an 85 before curve factors in. Cool!

We got tree up yesterday. I still have some other things to put up, but the big thing is done.

Tomorrow I'm going to finish all my shopping, attempt wrapping, prepare for shipping.

It's a busy week ahead!! But I'm SO glad my college is done for now (unsure whether I will do any next semester. Alot of things are up in the air right now). Now I can concentrate on DD11's exams, one more ball game, anniversary, finances and taxes (ugh), and a couple of class parties.

Jenny

Congrats Jenny!

LindaM's picture

I am actually thinking of signing up for a grad class. Like I don't have enough on my plate. DH thinks I am nuts. He might have a point. 1 basket down. Nutcracker was ok, but took antihistime and slept through a bit of it. DD and I ate out afterward. This cold has settled in my chest and now I really feel crummy. Hot tea and a warm bed.

Oh, that jean story is funny

Oh, that jean story is funny Linda! Hate to lose the jeans that actually make you look good! Hope you feel better soon. Don'tyou hate paying money for a ticket and then sleeping through it! Been there, done that!

Good for you Jenny - must feel good.

Guess what? My cards are still not done! I got as far as printing out labels yesterday - that's it!

Typical day today - need to buy stamps -that's about it!

Santa business

LindaM's picture

DS (11, 6th grade) made comment today..."I'm starting not to believe in this Santa stuff, come on...flying reindeer." Holy guacamole... He still believes in Santa!!! DD and I just looked at each other and I had to leave the room before I started laughing. No wonder he is looking at all this $$$ stuff for Santa to get him. I told DD she needs to break it to him. She said no way...

DH and DS went to the competition yesterday. He was impressed. They won 1st in all catagories, again. They are pretty awesome to watch. The other teams just don't compare to them. DH made a few comments to her about when her next intown will be and he would like to go. WOW, except that it is next Saturday and check in is 6:30 am.

Skipped church today. Felt wonderful. Sorry God. But really you should have made 10 days in a week instead of 7. If I could have those extra days in a weekend, maybe I could get caught up. Tried to spend the time organizing this place. Got a big contractor trash bag and decided my goal was to fill it up. That is going to be my New Year's resolution. 1 bag a week, either to toss or donate.

Tree is up. Decided not to do lights outside since there is still no grass. Cleaned out my car and did a little grocery shopping. Stopped at Starbucks and got some grounds for the new plants. Did not grade one paper this weekend Sad
Off to watch Desperate Housewives...

sorry about your dad Julie.

jennye's picture

sorry about your dad Julie. Hope he gets to doing better soon.

Linda, yay on the cheer squad!! We cheer at a BB game the other day. One of my girls (not MY girls, but a 7th grade girl on my squad) have been going to tumbling classes with the Varsity team and with the help of one of those girls to spot her, did a back handspring during a time out! I was so proud of her!

I'm so tired! I spent most of yesterday on my anthropology work and more cooking. Today we went to church, had pot luck and admin meeting there. Came home to change clothes, then went to fire station and working on setting up all that stuff. Fed about 100 people. Got it all cleaned up (not by myself, but a few of us). Home about 8:30. Finished homework, did some dishes, and I'm about dead on my feet!

I'll be around sometime tomorrow. I'm off to bed!

Jenny

Linda, Andrea, I'm so glad

jennye's picture

Linda, Andrea, I'm so glad you two got my letter!! LOL!! (ok, just one is straight As, the other As and Bs).

Seriously, I haven't done cards in two years and I'm almost afraid this will be the 3rd. Somehow I just run out of time and before I know it, it's Valentine's day! LOL!

Three of my kids wanted a ds. And I did too for that cooking program. But we are so cheap this year, I spent maybe $50 on each kid and that was it. DH and I are only getting each other one thing (and he knows what his is. A new work coat we found clearanced for $30 over the summer. Got two, one for him, one for his dad).

On the good side of things today, met with accountant for our end of the year estimate on taxes. Good news, we didn't make shit! We won't owe come tax time, and may even get some back.

It's our anniversary today (14 years). DH took me and DS3 to breakfast, where we feasted on Huevos Rancheros (I was brave and got it with green chile).

No flying today. I'm working on dinner now (lasagna), fireplace guy is here cleaning that out so we can have a fire Christmas morning.

Busy day tomorrow, I'll be back then!

Yucky day here...

LindaM's picture

Sleet today. Told my class that if it snowed we would go outside and build a snowman. Thank God it didn't snow!! Few flurries after school. DS and I went to eat Mexican food, 1 margarita and fresh guacamole. Yum. Maids came today. Folded same clothes into same baskets that have been here for months. I look at those baskets every week and just move them around. Too tired to do anything but watch tv. I hate cold weather. My car is on empty and I didn't even want to stop to fill it up. I think I have enough to drive across the street to school tomorrow. DD at cheer tonight, I did not have to do any carpool. I am going to go put my jammies on, light the fire, some smelly Xmas candles and fix some hot tea. We have competition in town this weekend. Moved the time from 6:30 am to noonish. 9 more school days until break!!

Andrea, you are way ahead of

jennye's picture

Andrea, you are way ahead of me! I haven't even took the pictures yet for our cards! LOL! I haven't gotten around to DOING cards in two years, wonder if I'll just make it three. LOL!

Linda, that IS funny about the clothes baskets!

It's cooooold here today! Right now it's 17, wind chill is 6. If it's going to be cold, give me some snow (or at least give me a fire in the fireplace. I've been waiting for over a month for the fireplace cleaner guy to come. It's been 6 years since it was cleaned, I'm scared to put a fire in there!).

DH left for work an hour ago. Not sure if I should be sad that he will miss tonight's school music program or envious. LOL!

I'm not here today. Going to FINISH all my Christmas shopping, get a few groceries, run a few other errands. going to pick up subway for lunch and take it to the fire station for DH. At least I'm up, showered, and makeup on. Have a good one!

Mini acer - is that one of the new mini laptops?

Jenny - love it - you didn't make shit so you don't owe! Yeah and we know your kids are all perfect but at least you don't send a "gag me" letter bragging about it lol!

Most shopping and wrapping done here - just a couple things left.

Three more days of work.

I have become addicted to Facebook so that is taking up a ton of time.

See ya!

We made it home from the

Vonnie's picture

We made it home from the field trip. It was fun. It was a local children's theater performing "Best Christmas Pageant Ever". They did a great job. It was about 60 miles away and we've had an iffy forecast for some snow. Nothing to stick, but high winds which can make it hard to see on the roads. And we've had a ton of rain in the past few days so we could have some icy roads once we go below freezing tonight.

We're safe and sound in our warm house, me nursing my cup of dark roast coffee and DD watching TV. Tonight is DH's last night of work at the plant until next year. He will be working some with his brother who is in construction, so we are very fortunate to have that opportunity.

This weekend is our church's Living Christmas Tree. If you don't know what that is, google it and check out a video or two. I am in the adult choir and will be singing in the tree. DD is in the kid's choir and they will be singing with us on 2 songs. They are so cute! The program is about an hour long and we don't have seats so it's a long time to stand. The tree is pretty tall and I am on the 6th row of 8 rows total. I am the oldest person up that high by a long shot. Most people my age and older won't go above row 3 or 4. So, since I am not afraid, I get stuck up there. It's cool though because I can see the whole sanctuary. I am eye-level to our balcony.

I think Julie mentioned being glad I was past the problems at my church. Yup, I am. I made a decision not to let anyone keep me from doing what I wanted to do. And I have a mentor who started praying for me and encouraging me about that same time. I'm really involved now, and even considered part of the women's ministry leadership now. I really do enjoy it and am careful not to over-commit myself so that I burn out.

I forgot to mention that we are still a zoo. Now we've added two cats. One is a mama cat that we just got spayed last week. She got pregnant twice before we could turn around. The other cat is her male offspring from the first litter. Both are so sweet. I forgot how much I loved having a cat. Unfortunately we lost both of our male goldens two years ago. They died within months of each other. One had stomach cancer. The other we're not sure. We have our female golden and have taken in a male black lab. He is a doll. And unfortunately, he got our female in the family way and she had a litter. We have a puppy from that litter that we kept and named Palin. She is a sweetheart herself.

I don't get to watch much TV, but when I do, I love "Jon & Kate Plus 8", "What Not to Wear", "How Do I Look?" and my newest fave:"House". I love his irreverence!

Well, gonna run for now. I need to check the forecast and refill my coffee. DH is going to clean house tomorrow so I won't be doing my usual Thursday evening Home Blessing Hour(s) tonight. I'll let him do it tomorrow. Some friends are giving us a $4000 entertainment armoire and we have to bring it in Saturday. Well, DH does with 3-4 other people (it's very heavy). I will be at a planning meeting and luncheon.

Y'all have a great evening!

Vonnie, sorry about the

jennye's picture

Vonnie, sorry about the goldens. We lost our german shephard this summer. We now have a female golden puppy and is SO CUTE! But HYPER! LOL!

I spent last evening baking banana bread and cupcakes. Did number crunching with DH this morning (ugh. Not good). Worked the bake sale at the school, then we had to cheer two basketball games after school. One of the cheerleaders came home with us to spend the night (dad wasn't available to pick her up).

Tomorrow: study in the morning, then tomorrow afternoon decorate a firetruck for the Christmas light parade in town. Never done that, should be interesting (to say the very least!).

BTW, made a 94 on the research paper! whoohoo!

jennye's picture

Andrea, aren't all of our kids perfect? LOL!

I feel like I haven't been home all week! And the house really shows it. Laundry up the whazoo, clutter out the ying-yang. Plus two of the kids class parties are today, I need to show up for them (Santa, aka one of the high schoolers, usually makes an appearance).

But first, I HAVE to get wrapping done! Today is the last day of school for the kiddos. Luckily, I think I have everything bought, waiting on one to be shipped in. I also need to get box of gifts shipped to GA today. And need to figure out bills. This weekend is our big family gathering (no gifts, just lots of food and music and board/card games/visiting), so I need to do some cooking for that, too (tomorrow).

Morning Everyone!

Finally got some online shopping done yesterday - feel a little better about that. Will order inlaws gift basket today from Wegmans - they are nice and my inlaws don't need another thing so this will be their gift. Also ordered cards from photoworks - hope they turn out! Oh - our tree fell over during the day so DH had to spend a lot of time rigging that back up. What a mess!

Remember Me?

Vonnie's picture

Hey everyone! Remember me, Vonnie? I don't get around these parts often & this is just a drive-by post as I'm trying to get DD to get ready and get out the door. I'm still working (full-time now) and I really like what I do. DH has had some work cut-backs, but no lay-offs, thanks goodness (if you remember he is in the auto industry). DD is in 3rd grade and still struggling academically.

Hope I'll get by here again today or tomorrow & maybe even get back in the saddle here!

Love to all!

I ALMOST got done with shopping yesterday, but then ran out of time. DH finished most of it this morning after he got off his shift.

Today I've been doing some deskwork stuff. Bleh. I hate this time of year (no, not Christmas, loan renewal and tax planning). I'm SOOOOO stressed!!!

Need to tackle laundry and wrapping today. And call fireplace guy!!

Yes I am Back!

Vonnie's picture

Hello Andrea & everyone. Lordy be, it’s been a long time since I was on here. I’ll try to give the run-down of the last 2-3 years I guess it has been.

I left the real estate office in October 2006, rather abruptly by my choice. I think the stress of being a new-ish mom to an adoptive child got to me once and for all. It was a stress-filled job (I was the bookkeeper in the property management department, doing a full time job in part time hours) that I just had to leave. I didn’t really do it the way I should have, but I had to leave for my own well being. Read: I was probably on the brink of a break-down. I worked for 6 months at an insurance office (I had worked in insurance years & years earlier). It was people we went to church with, and it was not a pleasant environment as one would hope with people you go to church with! I left with the owners pretty steamed at me. They weren’t being ethical, I called them on it when they cornered me about leaving, and they tried to turn it on me that I was the one in the wrong. Whatever!

In May 2007 I got a position as the office manager of a pest control company. I love it! It is just guys and I do not miss the cat-fighting and behind-the-back talk you put up with when you work with women. The company has not been without issues, but I think it will all work out in the long run. Right now the owner is battling some legal junk but I am praying it will all be over by the beginning of 2009. Having worked in a law office, I am somewhat familiar with this type of thing, but it is still an irritant to always be having to deal with legal stuff. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I am still a writer-wannabe. I have two verses that have been picked up by a greeting card company; I am just waiting to find out publish date and get paid. I am also working on some daily devotions which I hope get purchased as well. I seem to have much more time for writing than I did just a few short years ago.

Motherhood is grand. My DD is about to turn 9 years old! I can’t believe it. She has been with us for a little over 5 years and it is like she’s been here all along. She is still a hand-full, but I think I’m better equipped to deal with her plus she is maturing some. My aunt is her schoolteacher this year, so I have a constant and direct line on her progress, which helps. We may have to hold her back this year though, because 4th grade is a huge year and if she doesn’t “get” everything in 3rd grade, it could be a nightmare. I would hate to do it, but she is so social and it’s such a small school, she would still have many of the same friends and I think she would be OK.

DH’s plant is still holding it’s own. They extended their holiday shutdown, which was not good for many people. DH was going to be 2 days short for 2008, but he just got notified last night that he was awarded two days in December to work and then he will be teaching classes the first two weeks of January. So, we are going to be fine. His brother is in construction and he has already arranged for DH to work with him on the days he won’t be at the plant. So, life is good.

I’m still really involved at church. Our women’s ministry is divided into three teams. I was the junior leader on one team and our pastor’s wife was my senior leader. Well, our pastor was called to another church this past spring. I was “promoted” to senior leader of that team. I had to introduce a speaker a few weeks ago at an event & I learned something about myself: I CAN speak in public and not die or throw up! I have changed so much in the past 4 or so years, it is hard to believe I am even the same person. It took me until I was 40 to finally come into my own, I guess!

Well, I guess that’s about it for me. Our families decided to make our gifts this year, so I have GOT to get busy now. I am going at lunch to buy some fleece. I am making the fleece tie blankets and scarves. I also make jewelry, so that will be some of my gifts as well.

Hope everyone is doing great!

What a busy day!

LindaM's picture

Whew, glad this day is coming to an end. Worked on those laundry baskets and am down to the wire. I am so proud of myself. Went to church this morning and enjoyed the service, so I am glad we went. Did a whirlwind shopping yesterday, so it is all sitting in the car under a blanket. Need to get rid of kids so I can wrap.

Turns out I didn't need to be in such a hurry to get our cards done. All my addresses were on this computer when it crashed earlier this year. I cannot find a copy of my address list anywhere. Now I have cards and no one to send them to! I have to play detective and locate the addresses. What a pain. Most of them don't send cards out anymore, but I still like to. I will send out to those who have sent us cards and whatever. Sheesh. Add that to the list of important things to do. Finally starting to feel better. Thank goodness for zpak. Cooked supper tonight since I am finally sick of eating out. Everyone ate except DH.

Promised self I would not get stressed out about this house over the next 2 weeks. Will take baby steps. Asked the kids to not bring anything else downstairs. Want to get a handle on the mess. Tomorrow I am going to clean up the dining room and get it ready for Xmas dinner. I want to recover the chairs. I think I have some nice material laying around here. I might even get adventurous and change out the valances to match!! So that is my plan for tomorrow. Baby steps!

Vonnie, I love making those blankets!! I need to make one for DS for xmas. Will go pick up material tomorrow!! I find that very relaxing while watching tv. I also picked up DD a denim jacket that I am going to embroider her cheerleading team on and bling. Might try to ship the kids off tomorrow so I can fly without distractions. LOTS to do!!

Hi There

Andrea's picture

Great ideas Jenny! I made scalloped potatoes tonight - with ham on the side. DH wouldn't let me put it in. Haven't eaten yet. We froze the other half so will pull out someday soon for something. It was a really great (and expensive) spiral ham so I really don't want to waste it.

Got my hair cut and colored today. I really like it. Also got back into my tanning! I am hoping the light will help with some of the seasonal grumpiness I've been having. DH did chores - including my dreaded kitchen floor, thank goodness.

Tomorrow just church and that's about it.

Did cookies at Mom's today...

julhome's picture

Only our one favorite specialty; we'll pig out on those and that will be enough. Just a sandwich platter for the little family gathering which has now been moved to Saturday instead of Sunday.

Many of my cards went out already, but I'm putting stamps on some more right now. I'm sending out a bunch, because of the whole business thing now. Not a heck of a lot I could do to get started right now, other than make myself visible to people who already know me. I'm coaching you in spirit, Andrea!

Linda, glad you found the jeans...I've done stuff like that before! And I did get some guacamole the other night...yum!
Take care of that cold, I've got it sneaking up on me now, as well.

Enjoy those elementary programs while you can, Jenny. Had to miss Gage's program this year, and he will only be one more year in elementary. Sniff, sniff. Need to find new kids to adopt, or just come live with you! Congrats on finishing your work for the semester...you'll be a teacher before ya know it!

Quick trip to the grocery store, then home to bed. REALLY long day tomorrow.

Later,

Dropping in to say hi

LindaM's picture

Did the cards last night on walgreens.com and then went and picked them up. They looked awesome. Need to find somewhere to post them. The picture was a portrait I took with my new camera this summer. Turned it to b/w and it turned out so nice. Posted it on the wall at school and got raves. Now I need to find the list and mail those suckers out.

Swimming pool is about to drive me crazy. Noticed green slime on the wall, so obviously something is wrong. Constantly dirt in it. You'd think I lived in West Tx. I gotta be doing something wrong. Need to take water sample to store. Poured chlorine and shock in it for the time being. That ought to kill something! Ready for summer so I can swim in it instead of just paying and griping.

Tomorrow 1/2 day!! woohoo!!!

Funny story... DD wants item she knows is not to be found, something that the elves would have to make... Doll sized Infinity tennis shoes. They don't exist. She says if she gets them, she will believe in Santa. I told her he is not real, but she refuses to not believe. I guess I will see how I can make her some!!

off to go empty cat box. PU!

Christmas shopping?

LindaM's picture

I am so far behind. Can't go Xmas shopping because I have NO time to myself!! Need to ditch these kids before the DS's sell out! DD's ds broke and I hate to have to buy another. Can't find DS's ds and I want one to do the chef coach (or whatever that game is). I usually do all the shopping online, but seriously have procrastinated. Haven't done cards either, but have the picture from this summer. Unfortunately, DD has the cute haircut now, but the picture will do. Need to work on my letter too. Got a friends letter today and wanted to gag. It was so "I am perfect, my children are perfect blah, blah, blah..."

Speaking of perfect!! I am down to 6 (yes count them) 6 laundry baskets!!! One in my closet, 3 in the master bedroom and 2 in the den. Oh wait, dang, there are 2 sitting on the dryer.

I'm telling you... burn the house down and start over.

2 1/2 more days of school. Boy, I need the time off. I am going to send my kids to grandmas for a whole day!! Xmas dinner is here, so I am sure my house will be superspotless by then. Nothing like a party and a motherinlaw to get the house cleaned!!

Merry Christmas

jennye's picture

Merry Christmas everyone!!

And Hi Honey!!!

I tell you what, I just collapsed in bed in the wee hours of this morning. DH called shortly after I posted yesterday and said he DOES have to bring dinner to the station afterall (he was previously told that most of the time churches bring the fire dept. food on Eve. Guess not). So, watch me whip a meal for 5 full grown men out of my hat! LOL! I made another brocolli casserole, swung by the grocery store and picked up some steaks, and hauled it all up to big(ger) town. They were busy all day, and I got my first worry of him on his new job. I don't worry about him rushing into a burning building (yet), but yesterday he had to IV two different AIDS patients.

I spent the entire morning cooking. MOre buckeyes (ran out of wax, so 1/3 of them are not chocolate coated), 2 broccoli casseroles, sausage balls, pretzel salad. Did dishes I don't know how many times. Made my round to big(ger) town (which is nearly an hour away), back to inlaws (missed church), opened gifts over there, hauled the loot back here, managed to get the kids to bed around 11 (they were watching the NORAD tracker of Santa. Told them they BETTER be in bed when he hits Texas!), made Christmas Morning Rolls (which I will put in the oven shortly). Kids woke me up at 5:44, and now we have to wait til about 8 when DH gets home.

In the meantime, I need to bake the aforementioned rolls, the sausageballs, clean and put the turkey in the oven, and see if I can keep the kids away from the presents for nearly two more hours. Oh, and Santa made a mess between the fireplace and the tree with the ashes. A big mess. Hope it comes out of the carpet. LOL!

Morning!! Linda, recovering

jennye's picture

Morning!! Linda, recovering chairs and new valances doesn't sound like baby steps. LOL! Do you have longer days over there in TX to get everything done? You need to share with the rest of us!

First official day of Christmas Break and I was up before 5. LOL!!

DH worked last night, and the temps were in the teens (wind chill is 4). So, we put a fire in the fireplace, brought blankets and pillows in the living room and we all slept on sofa and floor. My body is telling me "Why the hell did you do that?". LOL!

I got up early to work on bills this morning. I hate doing them when DH is around. He loves farming, hates to know how much it costs. And I hate him hovering over my shoulder. Sure is depressing this month. That's all I'll say about that.

So, today I need to wrap a couple of things, do a ton of laundry, and I think the kids and I will work on holiday baking. DH has to work on Christmas eve, I think the kids and I will all take a big plate of homemade goodies to the fire station that morning and visit. It's actually his turn to cook down there, but he said the guys told him that local churches usually bring food for them on Eve. He's kinda upset he will miss eve stuff with us, but of course there was no way around it. And he's not allowed any days off for the first 6 months. Like anyone would switch Eve!! HA!

I'm Not Counting The Days

Vonnie's picture

My SIL keeps putting the days left as her facebook status, but I refuse to read it. I am so not ready this year. We are cutting back big-time anyway, but I'm still behind. Tonight I start making blankets. I have 11 to make. And 3 scarves. And some jewelry. The tie blankets take no time to do, so I'm not worried. I will have to go get more fleece tomorrow, tho.

I got a small bonus today - woohoo! Glad for that. DH called and said he would be getting much more per hour working with his brother than I thought. He gets paid today, but we're not sure if it goes through yesterday or when. He just started Tuesday. He also found out he'll probably be going with his brother to do a job in Arkansas January 2-9. I'm not complaining - we need the $$.

DD and myself have hair appointments tomorrow morning early - 8:30. Then I'll go home and work on gifts. Then DD goes to the church to catch the bus to visit the nursing home. I'll go back home and work on gifts some more. Then back to pick her up.

Tonight is my nephew's basketball game, but I'm not sure we'll go. I am tired and seem to be getting sick. I'm afraid it's bronchitis. I sure hope not.

We are supposed to be off Thurs & Fri next week, but he is going to let us leave at lunch on Wed, I believe. I hope so because we are going to my mom's that night and I will have to make a Holy Cow cake to take. Actually, that's one thing I've taught DD to make and she just has to be supervised with the oven.

Well, better run. Y'all have a good one!

jennye's picture

Bet your hair looks nice, Andrea. I'd love a color, but I'm trying to wait til I really need it (that is, when I'm going gray and HAVE to cover it!). I'd love a tan, too. I'm white as a ghost! LOL!

I got up and showered, all my makeup and hair done. Woke the kids, fed them. Then DH got home from work and didn't want to go to church (he had 3 ambulance runs in the middle of the night, plus a transfer to Amarillo, 2 hours away, yesterday afternoon). He was tired, so we decided to ditch.

I did get the kitchen all clean yesterday, and the boys room mostly picked up. All rolls of wrapping paper and boxes packed away til next year. Downloaded pictures from camera (there since November!), updated blog. I beat 2 Guitar Heros on medium level. Girls got their thank you notes written (told them I wasn't going to set up their MP3 players til they were done). Took the 4-wheeler out and dumped the trash (wind chill was in the 20s! brrrr!!!). DS3 stayed dry nearly all day, one accident in his skivvies. I was exhausted at 9:30 and fell asleep in the recliner.

Today, I need to mop the kitchen. Guess I need to whip up some sort of casserole, we have to go to Texas for a funeral tomorrow. Wonder if I can declutter something from the girls' room. It needs it. I think DH wants to move the loader from the farm to the house, I may have to help him (or just send DD11, she can drive the pickup while he does the loader. It's just 13 miles).

DD and I went to see Bedtime Stories. Cute movie!!

Love my clean dining room!! MIL made the comment that she has never seen the table. I knew she would have some snide comment to make. Whatever. We didn't end up eating in here either!! Hung out in the kitchen and around the tv. Too many leftovers though! I am sure they will turn into science projects. Would love to start eating at home more, however, it really is a logistics nightmare. Wish I could figure how to do easy quick meals that everyone would eat, and everyone be here and hungry at the same time.

Tree comes down tomorrow and boxes go back in the attic. Nothing like a little company to get the house cleaned up!!

To take down, or not to take

jennye's picture

To take down, or not to take down? LOL! I think I'll leave mine up a little longer. Bad luck to take down before new years, right? I need all the luck I can get (note to self, get some blackeyed peas. the food, not the group).

Linda, not sure what kind of leftovers you have, but here we have plenty of turkey. I can use a bunch of it up by making enchiladas. Mine are really easy, just spray a 9x13 pan with Pam, cover the bottom with corn tortillas, put down your meat (beef, chicken, turkey, whatever), pour a can of green chile enchilada sauce, cover that with cheese, more tortillas, more cheese. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes covered with foil (keeps the cheese from burning). Basically it's a mexican lasagna. I'm sure this isn't the proper way to make enchiladas, but I did get 4 mexican cookbooks for Christmas, I'm sure I'll learn the right way.

The house fell apart yesterday. I didn't touch the kitchen all day (except to dish out some leftovers), and it's a mess. The boys room is horrible, as well as the old office. Toys everywhere (mostly legos!).

I also need to download pictures off my camera, haven't in nearly 2 months? wow! I need to update the blog desperately!!

DH is working today (which is why I'm up at 5:30 on a Saturday). So the day will be more relaxing without him breathing over my shoulders.

Merry Christmas Eve!!

Yesterday I didn't get much done. Made the cookies, finished my wrapping, folded the laundry from the day before, washed/dried another load. Then niece and nephew came over for a couple hours, then inlaws wanted us over for dinner to bring them back home.

*I have 5 things to wrap (unplanned. DH didn't get around to it. Yes, I'm wrapping two of my own presents).
*Make the other batch of buckeyes
*broccoli casserole for tonight
*pretzel salad for tomorrow
*buns for tomorrow
*sausage balls and monkey bread for tom. morning
*go to big(ger) town to visit DH at work and take the guys on his shift some goodies
*swing by our town to give goodies to an imaginary friend (lives alone in an RV, no family around. Wanted to invite him for Christmas dinner but DH said no.)
*inlaws for dinner
*take care of all eve stuff (DH won't get off work til 7am tomorrow)

LindaM's picture

The movers came yesterday and took the huge upright piano out of our living room and off to gmas house. Yeah!! We never play it anymore and it took up so much space. DH used it as a stacker (stack all his books on it). She is so excited. She wanted a piano her whole life, so at 80...Merry Christmas! Still cleaning the dining room. Really, trying to purge and organize as I go. Will finish today. Material is cut and ready to go for the chairs. Had to go buy screws to put them together, so there was a slight delay in plan. Decided no new valences for now. Too ambitious. Will start on my salads for tomorrow today so they can get to know each other. DD is up coughing and stuffy nose. Poor thing. I haven't had coffee yet!!

BTW, when I volunteered to do dinner here, I assumed most would be gone. Turns out no one went anywhere, so I think I will have 15 for dinner. Yikes, better get cooking!!

Be glad when the 26th is here!!

Thanks, Lynn. It's sort of like "coming home" after being away for a while. Lots of new "faces" on TNH and some familiar ones, too. I hated to hear about you giving up your land and chickens. I live in the city and would love to have chickens and maybe a goat. No-can-do though. We are going to try to corral the dogs so that I can have a decent garden this spring. I've done a container garden with DD8 the past several years. She loves to garden and so do I; it's in my genes - both my grandfathers were master-gardeners in their days of health.

Well, again thanks for the welcome back!

Yesterday was a flop. Didn't do a thing but maintained. Worked on a quilt, vegged around. It was really nice out, the kids played outside, then we all went on about a 2 hour walk. The puppy sure did enjoy it, racing with the kids.

Have a good one!

Morning folks! Got much

Morning folks!

Got much needed groceries yesterday, and exchanged the girls karaoke machine they got from MIL for Christmas (didn't work right out of the box). We had fun singing along to HSM and Camp Rock last night. LOL!

today:
*mopping
*vacuuming
*dusting

I'm feeling the vibe to get organized, starting with the kids. And trying to start me a small etsy business. I've GOT to make some money this year, even if it's just a little.

What kind of business?

Ahh, last day of the year.

Ahh, last day of the year. I'm looking forward to what the new year has to bring (it couldn't be much worse, finacially, than this year, right?!).

Yesterday, I feel I got much accomplished.
*5 loads of laundry (folded, ironed, AND put away!)
*swept and mopped kitchen, laundry room, and office/music room
*vacuumed most of the house
*hauled off trash
*hauled off DH's Christmas present to barn (got a new camp stove. I'm looking forward to him using it! LOL!)
*couple of BIG end of year bills paid (yearly pickup payment and tractor payment).
*kitchen clean
*showered before bed

Julie, I want to try to sell some handmade items, like burp clothes, baby blankets, and small quilts. Etsy is a site kinda like ebay stores, but only for handcrafted items. I have a friend that sells boutique children's clothing on there with some success (more than she did on Ebay). I can't do much else to help bring in any income without putting DS3 in daycare (which I WON'T do). Can't hurt, anyway. I'll let y'all know when I get stuff set up on there.

Today, I want to clean bathrooms. Gotta help dh move that loader (never got it done the other day). Work on a quilt. Do some planning, think about more goals for the coming year (I don't do resolutions).

Happy New Year!!

That is about it for my celebrating. We are going to have steaks on the grill and do fireworks in the street. Met some cheer moms for a lunch playdate, DD ended up going home with friend to spend the night. Maids came today, so it looks like I have flown!! Actually, I have been keeping up with the laundry. Days are starting to fly by now that school is starting back on Monday.

Jenny, I make resolutions every year.
**This year I need to exercise more. That is going to be my main goal. My body is getting really creaky. I am going to start out walking a little each day. I need to get my fat dog to walk with me! Maybe we both can trim down a size.
**I am want to eat at home more. I am going to figure out how to do that with all our activities. I know that other people do it, it just takes planning ahead.
**I am going to leave school by 4:30. In order to do this, I need to be more organized during the day.
**Attend bible study. I really need to do this. I am feeling the need to be more connected with people.
**Be a better mother. I have really been snappy with my kids. I want to listen to what they have to say and react differently.

I am sure I will think of more. I always do a "Grateful" list also. Things that I am grateful for. I try to be really specific and site reasons.

All for now! Happy New Year.

I have a new book by Joyce Meyer that I am going to read.

I went to see Joyce Meyer...

...when she came to Pittsburgh a few years ago. It was pretty cool. She sure is tough!

Jenny, good luck with the business. I've seen pics of your projects, and I'm sure you'll be a great success!

Speaking of business, I've got a possible closing in the works. Wish me luck!

Delivered candy all day. One of those freezing cold days where it snows sideways...sure was glad to get home and crawl under the electric blanket. Then I curled up with my kitty for awhile.

Speaking of my kitty, last night, for the second time, I dreamed I had a little baby girl, and kept calling her "Chloe"! Even within the dream, I knew that Chloe was the cat, but I couldn't remember the baby's name! Sheesh. Guess Miss Chloe is the only baby girl I'm gonna have anyway.

Ok, back to my Dharma and Greg reruns--I LOVE them!

Happy New Year everybody...
