Hope everyone had a goodHope everyone had a good holiday weekend and are now back to the old grind and SCHOOL. Oh, wait. My kids are OUT of school! LOL! Sorry, didn't mean to rub it in! After DH got done baling 60 acres of hay and cutting another 60, we decided to go to the movies last night with the kids. Saw the new Indiana Jones movie, very cool. I think Harrison Ford looks more handsome as he gets older. And he still looks EXACTLY like my father. My only TADA was doing laundry. I worked on a filing project for DH much of the day (alphabatizing a notebook of his and putting a database of it in the computer). But today I'll have to get busy on stuff. Good Afternoon! I am offGood Afternoon! I am off today, yeah! TADA Heidi Heidi, you soooo put me toHeidi, you soooo put me to shame!! I managed to vacuum yesterday and that was about it for anything other than routines. Today I had to run to town for groceries and have a tire fixed. I was getting tired of airing it up with the air compressor out of DH's pickup everytime I needed to go somewhere. LOL! Then I managed to buy 2 carts of groceries. Hopefully I won't be back to town for at least a week. I'm off to make some dinner now (Marlboro Man's Favorite Sandwich, for you PW readers!) Ok, it's Thursday. I got upOk, it's Thursday. I got up and worked out on the treadmill (20 minutes of alternating walking and jogging), took a shower, put dishes away while making my slimfast, now enjoying my computer time while Brad Paisley sings that he's still a guy (do ya'll listen to the words of his songs!? He is so funny!!! And cute!). I have some outdoor work I need to get done. I'll have to wait for the kids to wake up, I'll need some help. Going to take the 4wheeler and some chains and try to drag an old bathtub up to the garden for a project. Then hook up a trailer and try to get the old stock tank up here, too (the kids swimming pool). DH is off working in town today (EMT stuff, he's playing at the fire station there all day). But hopefully I'll get some indoor work done, too. My house is in need of a BIG decluttering. Friday?Yesterday TADA: Not alot of flying, but those were projects that needed to get done. I think I'm going to plant strawberries in the bathtub, or an herb garden. I need to plan a trip to C-town one of these days and raid the Lowe's garden center. I want some blackberrys, too. Today, DH may need me to move tractors around, and need to do one load of laundry (DH has to have the shirt he wore yesterday clean for tomorrow), not sure what else we will do yet. Good Evening! TADA morningGood Evening! TADA PODA Jenny- I saw someone use the frame from an old bed and plant flowers inside of it. A true "flower bed" LOL And then there's flowers planted in old boots, hats, wagons, etc, you get the idea.... Heidi Let me know how Juno is.WasLet me know how Juno is. Flowerbed. That's funny. There is tons of old junk by our silage pit (it's huge, like 150 feet long, 20 or 30 feet across, and about 25 or so feet deep). There is 60 years of junk accumulated along the sides of it. It's where I found the washer tub and bath tub. There are some other things I found, too. Wonder if DH would get upset if I used some of his old boots (you know, the ones I can't throw away because he "could use the leather for something...") Was an interesting adreneline pumping day. I checked on the mouse traps I set in the camper and found one caught. Emptied and reset that. Then I noticed a coyote that's been hanging around the past two days. But I didn't have any bullets for my .22. That ticks me off. Especially because a little while later I really needed it. I mowed the grass and as soon as I got done and was going in the back door I noticed a rattlesnake. 4 feet from the back door. In my cinderblock yard. Dang it. I had no bullets! By the time I got a hoe, it had slithered under some shrubs. Took me 15 minutes, but I finally found it and killed the SOB. What's freaky though is that it didn't rattle. I saw the rattles, but it never used them. That is strange. But, dead now. I'm tired. I think I'll go have a beer or something and just veg. Girls are at the inlaws spending the night, so I'm stuck here with a bunch of boys. LOL! Juno was okay. a liitleJuno was okay. a liitle weird. Did you bbq up that snake? TADA Time to settle in for the night...I think I am gonna give myself a pedicure...woohoo!!! Heidi Sounds like a nice relaxingSounds like a nice relaxing day, Heidi. No, not enough snake to BBQ, it was just two feet long. LOL!! (just kidding, I'm not a hillbilly!) Last night I got the kids into gear and we mopped, vacuumed and cleaned bathrooms. It didn't take too long, either. DS5 did the vacuuming, and just did the LR (but he and DS2 had made the mess throwing animal crackers!). Girls did the bathrooms, one each, and I did the mopping. Love it when we work as a family! DH played at the fire station all day and didn't come in til 10. Left this morning at 6 to go plow all day. Not sure what we will do, it's already in the 80's outside, supposed to be in the 100's the next few days. So much for spring. TADA morning routine readTADA PODA Morning gals! Happy Monday!Morning gals! Happy Monday! Is it Monday? Really? I wasn't sure, not having SCHOOL to keep my days straight. LOL! I woke up at 6, again. Why do I not sleep in on mornings I don't have to get up?! Anyway, got up and did my 20 minutes on the treadmill, then a short workout tape. We kinda did our home blessing together on Saturday. But I was toying around with the idea of planning a trip to town. I'm out of cheese (GASP! The kids won't like that!), and of course it never hurts to pick up milk and bread at any time. Then again, it's supposed to be WINDY and 104 today (in other words, it will feel like a hairdryer if you step outside). My desk really needs to be cleared off. The hot spot by DH's chair does, too. Not that those are the only two around. LOL! We will just see what the day holds. Oh, it's laundry day, I can do that. check inWindy and 104! Wow, that is hard to imagine. We had a great day today but it was only 76 or so - sunny no wind. Unfortunately I was too busy to sit out in it at all! So on to my TADA: Crashing right now - trying to find some quiet time though I should be in bed! See ya! Morning gals! SpentMorning gals! Spent yesterday in town. It was about a wasted trip to c-town, Lowe's didn't have ANYTHING I needed. All I ended up getting while in that town was the capo for my guitar. Got groceries in small town. Walmart also had nothing of the garden stuff I wanted. True value had one, but I couldn't fit it in my SUV, and the one nursery place is closed on Monday's. BUT, I don't get to stay home today. DH needs some tires replaced for a plow and a trailer, needs parts picked up in C-town that came in yesterday afternoon, and so I will be BACK up there today with the pickup. Also need to run to bank for him to get some money for his trip tomorrow (flying to Colorado and bringing back a big fire truck!), and I'll hit the nursery that was closed yesterday. At least I'm going in the pickup. I LUV driving my pickup. Sometimes I'm tempted to get rid of my SUV and just drive that. But I need the expedition, too, so I don't. I'm just spoiled. LOL! Good Afternoon! TADA morningGood Afternoon! TADA PODA Tomorrow is the last full day of school, then a half day Thursday then......SUMMER! Heidi ![]() jumping back inseems i always come back to TNH when there is a big transition in my life. Being an on again off again flybaby has been a blessing and I want my life to be blessed once again. Lots has happened here I see and in my life as well. I can't wait to catch up with you ladies once again. My secret sisterhood here at TNH has always been a source of comfort, strength, and knowledge. With that being said I need to stretch my wings... TADA's PODA's where was my to do list?Got off to a great start. Made homemade french toast from the old Betty Crocker cookbook Took nap with DD Hoping to get motivated. Think I will make sweet tea and clean up the kitchen. Looks pretty good when you write it out. I don't look like that much of a slacker. It's 4 and I finally made itIt's 4 and I finally made it home! I feel like I have been to the ends of the earth and back. I have put about 142 miles on the truck today doing errands for DH, getting parts, having tires mounted for the plow, bringing those to the field, back to town to go to the bank again for him, through our village to vote, finally home. But the garden store was OPEN today, and they had lots of blackberries, strawberries, and apple and peach trees! Whoohoo!! I'll try to get it all planted tomorrow. It's 102 outside right now and I just want to lay down and rest for a second. ![]() Hi Everyone - Lost a coupleHi Everyone - Off work in a minute - busy day today - so just maintain - make a nice dinner after DS's game - How do people organize medical appointments - anyone have a printable or online system they use? Nothing like a bug to inspire you!Woke up this morning to the sound of cat #1 making a twittering noise. There was a big roach dead on the floor. YIKES!! I hate bugs. That is it!! I got out my new camera and took pictures of 10 hot spots. That is just downstairs!! I am tackling them today! When you see it in pictures, it really looks bad. I didn't think my house was that cluttered. I am going to print out each hot spot and then tackle it. I put the exterminator on my list to call. I wish I could donate one full day to cleaning without having to stop to run errands. DS has dentist cleaning today. I think I should work on making all appointments on a single day instead of spreading them out all week. Andrea, I just use aAndrea, I just use a calender. Actually three of them. LOL! I have a really cool Bonnie Boynton one that is divided into 5 columns, one for each family member, and you write down what that person has on that day. Works pretty good, except that their are six of us, not 5. And that things like "grandma's birthday" doesn't fit well on it. So, I have my regular free calender that the insurance agent gave us, and that has meetings, appts, and can include extended family birthdays. I also have my Paula Deen Weekly Planner that has tons of recipes that do my waistline no good at all. Linda, I hear you on doing them on a single day. My dr. won't see more than 2 kids at one time, but I really haven't had a problem with that, my kids never have anything more than a cold, only the girls have had one ear infection each. I'm lucky. Though I do need to schedule a dental cleaning/checkup one of these days. I should take pictures of all my hotspots. Good idea! I've recooped from my running around yesterday. I should workout this morning, but dang if I just don't feel like it. I will go out and do yardwork before it gets too hot. And I need to do laundry since it hasnt' been done this week. Maybe DD11 and I can do a baking project from her 4-H book. Those are very hard for me. I have the tendency to take it over because I want it done right, quickly, and with the least amount of mess. LOL! ![]() Ick Linda - that isIck Linda - that is disgusting! I've got a couple hotspots like that in my house - drive me crazy! Jenn, your system sounds great. I am using Google calendar now, which I print out periodically. I am looking for something more long term - something that would say every July you need to schedule your kids' physicals. I was looking at Organized Home for some printables - not finding just what I am looking for. Ok, back to work - ![]() got lazywell I just went nuts yesterday TADA Yea thats it hahaha PODA this is gonna be it for today and lucky me I dont have to cook tommorow because we are going to dinner at a couples house that josh works with at the mercades place so I get the night off all except trying to keep the toddlers clean. I hope this week I can find my way to that library to see what they offer the kids for summer. We do 4-H, but for us we areWe do 4-H, but for us we are pretty much on our own. We are such a small 4-H club and the leader is really too busy with her own thing to do much. We meet once a month throughout the year. I fill out a form at the extension office (or give to our leader. Her mother is actually the one that I give the form to at the extension office. So I guess it's hard to complain about our leader to her mother. LOL!). Anyway, on this form the kids and I decide what projects want to do. This year we chose quilting, scrapbooking, vegetable gardening, sewing I and baking I. Of course they have tons of animal programs but I have been unsuccessful getting hubby to do animals. Alot of rules and stuff if you want to enter them in the fair, too. But I'm hoping we still will one of these days. That is one of my big projects this summer is for us to work on our 4-H projects. the books they gave have the various projects in it, plus forms and sheets to fill out regarding judging what you have made (like in baking), expense and income sheets, stuff like that. Contact your extension agent or go to the 4-H website. I got some gardening doneI got some gardening done yesterday, but no planting. Had to fix a trailer and haul off some stuff before I could do some mowing. DH got back with the new firetruck late last night and we had to go pick him up at the station. I did get most of the laundry done (but not all). DH is staying home today, giving himself a day off after many days straight of plowing, breakdowns, cuttin, baling, and clinicals at the station in town. I think we are just going to piddle around, fixing DS5's 4-wheeler, my weedeater. Maybe I can get him to move the camper within water/electricity so I can clean it. Good Morning! TADA morningGood Morning! TADA PODA Jenny-the only food plants I have in are tomatoes. My large veg garden is overtaken with weeds that tower close to my chin. So I am planting in pots this year. Just don't feel like messing with it. Heidi ![]() Just sayin hiPeeking into the flybabies too. I'm too tired to get into what's been going on here -- maybe later, when I get riled up about Dr.s again! Glad to see you guys are still flapping along! ![]() Hi from me, too!Oh, Shaun, I hear ya about doctors! All I can say is, be a squeaky wheel. We are in Silver Spring, MD at the moment. DH has been attending a series of appointments at the Deployment Health Clinical Center at Walter Reed - a mere 28 months after he came home early from Iraq in order to find out why he has been so sick. Better late than never, eh? Some fresh ideas and new approaches have been considered here, so I'm keeping a positive attitude. I don't know if I've mentioned this here, but I went back to work about a year ago. I work nights/weekends in a rehab unit. I'm tired, and the house has suffered. Time to stop whining and start flying again! Rose Night owlCat #2 woke me up and now I can't get back to sleep. Came down to enjoy to quiet, drink a sprite and read the computer. ADHD lose 1 week of work a year per MSNBC. Hmm. I can see that as being true. I have been home now for 4 days. Called the maids in today to at least get a handle on things. In college, when I had to study for a test, I could always manage to do everything but study. My goal of organizing the inside of this house lead me to the front yard. I yanked all the ugly stuff out of the flowerbeds. I have to admit, it looks gorgeous now. I trimmed the scraggly bushes in the back, left the azaleas in the front of those and then the boxwoods. I planted 2 flats of white vinca, red verbena (?) and 3 large agapanthus. Took out all the stuff from around both trees and filled them up with 5 bags of mulch. Repositioned the flagstone around the trees. Looked at houses again today in my futile attempt to move. I decided that I actually like my house, except that it is cluttered and would like a pool and a den we can all sit in to watch tv. My husband and I fight over room design. As long as his recliner is in alignment with the big screen (which is now broken), he is happy. Unfortunately, that leaves all of us scrunched on the couch turned sideways to see the tv. Having him watch the kids little tv is poetic justice. One house I looked at today smelled wonderful. Granted, it was decorated like a model and had a pool and a beautiful backyard. But the smell was mezmorizing. It was a candle by Circle E "tropical rain". Went and bought it. Can't wait to light it tomorrow. I think I will try to go back to bed so I can accomplish something tomorrow. hehehe, laughing at your DHhehehe, laughing at your DH having to watch the little TV. Your yard sounds real nice. I'd love to have a pool, too (dh says not going to happen, too many sandstorms around here). In fact, I can honestly say that for a 15 mile radius, there is ONE outdoor pool, and the other 4 people I know within that circle all have indoor (they are all rich dairymen). Well, I got up and did my workout this morning (GASP, as my DD11 would say). 20 minutes treadmill and 16 minute tape. Funny, I don't feel any thinner. LOL! Sippin' my slimfast now. I'd be doing fine if I would just stick to the slimfast at lunch too. DH is working (without pay) at the fire station in town today. He mentioned possibly spending the night. NO, he's not mad, they invited him to. That fire department is just a big party, complete with a sleepover! But I'm going to take the opportunity of him being gone to get all that stuff planted today (strawberries, blackberries, and two trees). Wonder if I can get that stock tank loaded and put into the garden without DH. I like doing big things without him because I like to prove I can get by without him and also that way he gets no nagging. Unfortunately, he didn't get my weedeater fixed. I'm also going to work on the house, starting with his spot by his recliner. Good Afternoon! TADA morningGood Afternoon! TADA TADA Kids are washing my van right now in their swimsuits. It is in the low 90s here and a scorcher. Hopefully, DH will set up our pool this weekend. First official day of summer break today and so far no sibling fights. Thank God for small favors!! Heidi ![]() Hi Everyone - I've typedHi Everyone - So I'll keep this one short just in case. Just got back from taking my folks to the airport. They will be back on October 1st. It was great having them. We did a TON of stuff. I am looking forward to slowing down some though - I am beat! Laundry is folded, not put away, did a WM run - that's about it! Parents are gone backParents are gone back already? I thought that they just got there, Andrea? I flew a little yesterday, only because someone came out to look at the AC (which decided to freeze up on me Thursday). Had to do a quick cleaning. I did get all my planting done yesterday, though. DH spent the night at the fire station (I call it a slumber party. LOL!). I made PWs chocolate sheet cake for him to take to the station for a training thing today. Today I was lazy. I put the Expedition in the barn and gave it a good vacuuming, cleaning, armoralled the interior (you don't put that stuff on tires out here!). Did some other service to it that I could accomplish, like check tires, etc. Fixed pizza for dinner. Took the cake I made yesterday to the station. We are going to Lubbock tomorrow for my niece's birthday party. Mass quantities of beer shall be consumed, I will bring my guitar, and I just may break out in song. We will see. LOL! Oh, I've caught 6 mice in the camper. This is gross. I cannot find where they are coming from. All I know is I have quite a mess to clean up in there. They are not living in the camper as far as I can tell, but I can't find where they come in from. ![]() Icky mice Jenny. I hateIcky mice Jenny. I hate them. My parents were here for two months! It flew by. They will stay for hopefully 3 to 4 months in the fall. I am ditching church today to work on my PODA! dw See ya! yikes on the miceI agree, I hate mice. We had a family of them living in the garage, I left the door open and they got in the house. My old cat would come and tell me where they were, but wouldn't catch them (city cat). I finally got them all in those humane traps. I would go let them out in the field. Another thing we have in common, Jenny. We also have a camper. But it is for me and the kids. Husband won't go in it. He is claustrophobic. I pull it, back it up, set it up and enjoy it with the kids while the husband stays and works. Went to Florida last 2 years to Topsail. If you have never been, you must go. It is the Cadillac of RV resorts. I always hear of mice getting in them, but we have been lucky so far. DD had tumbling and 2 private lessons yesterday and DS had game 2 of baseball tournament. I was wiped after all that, but DD insisted I take her to see KungFu Panda. The critics were right, it was actually good! TADA I am going to try to ditch church today, too. Husband plays in the band for all 3 services and is po'd if we don't go, but DS has game 3 of tournament @ 1:00 and possibly more if they win and DS has cheer from 5-7. I have parent meeting at 7:00 for cheer. ![]() More miceWe still have mice problems here. Some of you might remember when last summer we had to toss out our sofa (a very very old sofa) because mice had moved in! The mice in our house just leave droppings next to the traps, like a big "screw you!" At least now the weather is warm and they're moving out. We have an old house and it is nearly impossible to seal up the whole thing. Another church skipper here -- DH is going out of town for a job interview (!!!!!!) so we watched escapist movies and had drinks and stuff to help with the stress. So when DD5 came to tell me to wake up at 8:15, I figured 9:15 church would just be too much work. We have soccer tonight -- but it will probably get rained out. I heard from a friend today that she and her family are coming and staying in our tiny house over the 4th of July. We are so happy -- they moved to India last summer, and we were so sad -- but there is a *lot* to do to get ready. Maybe it's time for me to get back to posting PODAs. Have a nice Sunday all! Good Morning! TADA morningGood Morning! TADA morning routine PODA Supposed to hit 92 here so we will see how long we last at this picnic my friend is hosting. At least they reserved a pavilion. Heidi All these poor churches withAll these poor churches with all us flybabies ditching them! LOL! Andrea, your husband doesn't have a CELL PHONE!! OMG! My DH has had one since 1992! We started out in the big ol' bag phone era. One reason I started dating my hubby, he had a cell phone, he must have some money! LOL! Little did I know! Linda: what kind of camper do you have? We have an '05 Cougar 5th wheel. Love it! Got it last year (we had an '84 for years. Loved it, too, but with 4 kids it was getting crowded). This one has a slide out and a set of bunk beds, so we all fit in there very comfortably. I hope we get to take it to FLA someday. We took it to GA for Christmas, and last year to Corpus Christi. But with fuel prices, this year we are only taking it to our family's land in the mountains a couple times and hopefully Elephant Butte to visit DH's uncle. Shaun (I'm so glad your back!!): we finally got rid of our mice in the house by putting industrial strength gopher poison under the house and sealing up the crawlspace opening. Heidi, enjoy the heat and the BBQ! DH is off for his EMT thing at the fire station. I'm going to clean up the house a bit. I didn't clean the kitchen after I made pizza last night, then the boys spilt popcorn on the floor and I didn't get that cleaned up either. I need to be ready to head out to Lubbock by noon when DH should be done. Need to load guitars, kids, movies, stop by Walmart on the way and get a present for my niece. Going to run down to the barn and check the camper's mouse traps before this gang wakes up, too. update: no mice this morning in the camper, horses are fed, kids are slowing waking up. Told them we can't go to Lubbock until the house is picked up. insert evil laugh here. They are picking up now. LOL! Jenny ![]() Gosh, yes lots of emptyGosh, yes lots of empty churches! I do feel bad - haven't been in 3 weeks but life has gotten in the way - maybe a bullet post in best for me... *DD9 has lice - for a week now - still finding some eggs - lovely - this has consumed an hour or more every day Ok, need to get to bed - I promise I will get something done today!Jenny, we have a Dutchman 26BH, no slides, bells or whistles. Wanted something "I" could pull with my Tahoe, but pull with truck instead. All our friends have them and we all go on big trips every year. Them more than me since I go solo. If DH meets us, he stays in hotel. Defeats the purpose. I love to camp, but must have bathroom attached. Husband is claustrophobic and has serious back issues, so long car rides kill him. If he is going somewhere it is on an airplane and hotel. We went to Hawaii in May and the 10 hour plane ride was awful for him. But it was free, so he sucked it up. There was drama at church yesterday, hubby called and said not to go. Seems a little hanky panky went on and there was a resignation. Most of our baseball team didn't go, but everyone heard about it, so big discussion at the ball field. Very sad for the wife and their daughter. Left at 11:30 for baseball and didn't get home until 9:00. Cheer and baseball are my life. DD couldn't throw her tuck without a spot. They are placing teams this week. She said if she doesn't make level 3 she will quit. I think she will make it. I may need to schedule another private this week. Everyone threw them but her and one other girl. She can do it, it is just a confidence thing, I think. Todays list: That is all probably, I want to go to the pool this afternoon and veg. Happy Monday!!!Happy Monday!!! LOL! Andrea, didn't realize you were going to have foot surgery! Ouch! Hope it all goes well. The lice sux. Ugh! Linda, we all love camping, but hate tents, too. I need the bathroom nearby, and the hot water, fridge, and generator when needed is nice, too. LOL! Where we go camping has no electricity or water (other than a creek). Hope your DD makes the squad she wants. Sounds like an interesting day at church, even if you weren't there? What instrument does your husband play? Yesterday was fun. After DH got done with his EMT training thing (noon30), we headed down to Lubbock. SIL still had lots of BBQ, potato salad, cake and homemade ice cream left. Kids played in the sprinkler and slip and slide, but seemed to have more fun with buckets of water and trying to dump them on each other. Ended up not even getting the guitars out. But we did make a good batch of strawberry daquiries. We got home about 1am, it was too much fun visiting. Well, DH is off to go plow for the day (after 3 solid days of fire department training). and I have lots to do around the house: Jenny Good Morning! Andrea-getGood Morning! Andrea-get well wishes sent your way. What type of foot surgery are you having? We had a record heat wave here yesterday followed by a severe T storm and tons of rain....weird weather. DH set up the pool yesterday in the backyard. Hopefully, the kids will be able to go in it today. TADA PODA Have a good one Heidi ![]() HI Guys - Mucho heat here -
HI Guys - I am having a bunionectomy - where they shave part of the bone down. Icky. I hope the recovery is quick! The hard part will be not driving. I"ve been working on the gardens a lot, they are looking pretty good. Also continuing to do bedding, etc. at home to hopefully prevent the lice from coming back! Andrea I can't believe it, II can't believe it, I accomplished all on my PODA yesterday! I did just one load of laundry, but got the windows done (most of them anyway. The really bad ones. Still need to do the ones on the east side of the house, but need to wait til this afternoon for those), lawn mowed, horses fed, traps checked (no mice in 2 days), made baby blankets and embroidered burb cloths (ok, the blankets were some I had made last year and never sold), found the baby items I was looking for and delivered to girl, then to friends house for the evening where we started many conversations and hardly finished a one for the 7 children, including her 9 week old who loves for me to hold him, much to my DS2s dismay. I also took care of budget and bills for the month (still need to print the checks, though). Today, DH is going to need a ride to move tractors around, then I'm going to go to town and get groceries and bank. ![]() flapping alongAndrea I hope that goes well and maybe it will even cool off a little for you. If not at least you have a valid excuse to languish in the AC. Jennye girl your list always putting me to shame! Well Josh and myself and the kids are meeting the realtor today to go look at a 2story 1901 farmhouse with barn and outbuilding and 5 original fireplaces! I have looked at pictures online and it looks beautiful but it will need some work. As long as that some doesnt get too big we are going to go for it. tada's PODA well maybe i can get some of it done and sneak back into the sling before my arm falls off! One down, so much more to goI am so excited!! I finished the taxes and took them down to the post office to mail to the accountant. Cheaper to mail it than to drive it there. BTW, I need to write "stupid" across my forehead. I went to the store last night and unloaded my Tahoe. Apparently, after my last load, I never put the back hatch down. Well.... the sprinkler system came on this morning and shot water all in the back of my car. Fortunately, the blanket that I made my daughter was sitting back there and absorbed most of it. Left the windows down and I think the 104 degrees dried it. Nice thunderstorm just came through, so it cooled things down around here. Went to the library in hopes that the kids would want to get a book. I came away with 5 to their 0. Andrea: ouch on the bunionectomy. Anything that puts us out of commission is tough. There is always so much to do. I am totally unmotivated to do anything more today. I might have to set my timer and get busy. Oops on the Tahoe! After IOops on the Tahoe! After I read that I checked to make sure it was down on my Expedition. LOL! Well, we haven't had any rain nor a sprinkler, but wind has been blowing like crazy for a few days, it could be full of sand! Jen, good luck on getting the old farmhouse! Yesterday we did town and that was about it. I did do some extra cleaning in the kitchen last night and it looked pretty when I walked in this morning. That always feels good, walking into a clean kitchen. DH didn't get in til 1 (grass fires from lightning that didn't give us any rain), but I'm glad he managed not to mess it up. today's poda includes laundry and finding the floor of the boys' room. Lord help me, I don't know where to begin in there! LOL! But I've been letting DS5 sleep in a cowboy bed in my room just because he can't reach his bed. And I had that room clean just last week! Weather channel says 102 and WINDY today. I'm not going outside if I can help it. 9am and it's already 83. I think I see the horses in the pen, going to feed them before the cattle come up, check mouse traps in camper, then lock myself up in the AC. LOL! Jenny ![]() farmhouse or carnival housewe drove almost an hour out to see this farmhouse. We drove up and it had this beautiful old door frame and the newish vinyl siding...then we went inside....OH MY! It looked like some circus freaks moved in there. The kitchen was painted pink with red trim in peeling latex paint...and that was the least offensive of all the rooms. Blue and pinks and purples and oranges all clashing together making my head hurt. The paint of course is fixable but the modernization of this farmhouse was badly done....the house was build before bathrooms so someone just shoved toilets into closets with sinks and stuck a tub in a bathroom off the kitchen instead of upstairs. The only thing that looked cared for was the attic. It was a beauty of a house once but MAJOR issues. Josh and I agreed that beccause of the repairs needed it would more than double the cost and move it out of our price range. Poda to bad about the farmhouseSome retired friends of ours have an old farmhouse, over 100 years old. It is in shambles. They use the kitchen and the downstairs, but the upstairs is frightening. They added a bathroom to the back of the house. However, it is on 500 acres of beautiful land. They finally decided to put a double wide on it. There is a reason for everything, I have no doubt you will find what is 'perfect' for you. TADA My next goal is to tackle some of these school papers that need to be filed. I will set my timer for 30 minutes and work on that. PODA to many to list.... ![]() Making progressI am cleaning out my office to help it return to its other function as a guest room. So far I have gotten rid of two giant bags and two boxes of recyclable paper, and I've sorted tons of the girls clothes into "keep for another kid or season" and "yard sale." My little one just got a huge influx of "new to her" clothes! We toured an awesome old farmhouse that would have been a total nightmare to make livable. Shag carpeting on the *walls* of the bathroom! An attic full of mouse poop. An ancient kitchen. The old couple who lived there had died and a young son was living in there just trashing the place. A real shame -- we could have gotten it for a good price, but I didn't have the energy to oversee the necessary renovations. I still think of what could have been . . . Better get back to work! Been out running errands and working, now I'm relaxing after driving the kids around. Just think Shaun, you couldJust think Shaun, you could have been on HGTV's Save My Bath or some show like that! LOL! Jenny morning frustrationok, I admit it, I am a morning person. I like to get up early drink my coffee and enjoy the relaxing time alone before the kids get up. Well, my vacuum cleaner broke last week. Started having that "belt is broke" smell. I just shut it down, grabbed my cheapo "great on hardwoods but sucks on carpet" and used it. This morning I decided to change the belt on the Eureka. I am not challenged when it comes to fixing things. I consider myself pretty handy. I have several degrees, I can read a manual. I spent over 90 minutes trying to fix the stupid thing, and it is still not fixed. The belt is not broke, but all this black soot came out, all over my carpet, that I can't vacuum up because the thing is BROKE. So I decide to replace the belt anyway. Well, there is no way to take it off. It has this metal piece that butts up against the motor so you can't slip the belt off. The manual doesn't even show this. Usually, you just remove the brushroll, slip it off the motor and replace it. Once you get the belt off the brushroll, there is no way to remove it from the motor part. If I could draw a picture, I would. Sheesh!!! As soon as Target opens, I am loading it up and taking it back. I don't care if I have had it for a year. I know you Dyson people out there, but I am not spending $500 on a vacuum cleaner. I have hardwoods with 2 area rugs downstairs and freize upstairs, 2 cats and a lab, all who live inside. I am an unhappy camper. Todays hopefuls return p.o.s. vacuum cleaner Linda, your vacuum soundsLinda, your vacuum sounds like it sux (as opposed to sucks. Get it!? LOL!!). I am a Dyson person, I spent $380 on the cheapest model Lowe's had (it was on sale at Sears and when I told Lowe's that, they met the price and knocked another 10% off). I've had it for 3 years and (knock on wood) not a problem yet. I cannot believe how much better it worked than my Hoover that I loved. I wanted to replace the Hoover with the same, but Sears was out of stock for at least a week or two. Everything else was really cheap or really expensive. Totally worth the money on the cheapest Dyson. I did 3 loads of laundry yesterday. I stuck to my slimfast for BOTH breakfast and lunch. Found part of the floor in the boys' room. DH cut 60 acres and called it a day, spent the rest of the afternoon napping/hanging with us. This morning I got up and did 30 minutes on the treadmill, 1.745 miles. Then did a 16 minutes WO tape. Took shower. Only going to be 97 today. LOL! But nice outside right now. Friend is having a Mary Kay party, I'm debating going or not. And I think I'll deep clean kids bathroom today. Jenny well...Called Eureka and they said yes, we have a problem. Took it to a shop they recommended and voila, fixed! The brushroll was actually broken, and under warranty. The belt does come off but you have to work it at a weird angle. Have I vacumed? No. I have spent my afternoon shredding a box full of old bills and doinking around with the pool bids. I'm off for my 15 minutes in closet and then to cheerleading. The Dyson sounds great, but I can't justify it. The guy at the vacuum place said that Consumer Reports doesn't like them, but every single person I know that has one loves them, but I guarantee you if I go buy one, mine will be the one they wrote about. Sheesh, another day almost gone without much accomplished. ![]() Good influenceI've been getting more done -- I credit you guys. Lots more dealing with paper clutter today -- filing the stuff that I couldn't toss. Also deep cleaning in my office. Of course, if you saw my office, you might say "You did what exactly?" But trust me it is lots better. I am a Roomba person, but we also have a HEPA that I think is a Eureka model. We got it after DD9 got diagnosed with allergies and asthma. Good Evening! TADA morningGood Evening! TADA Tomorrow is DH bday so I will be making him a carrot cake and DD and I will make bday cards and hang streamers and such in the dining room. PLanning on eating out if he gets home early enough,he has been working late on this remodel job. Have a good night Heidi ![]() Disaster and Contagionwell around about 4 am my first casualty came in to the bathroom throwing up DS9 and he was followed by a procession that included my darling Josh who is out of work today. All the poor benz drivers will be without NC's finest tech today! and of course all five babies are sick. so armed with a pot of coffee and a bottle of disinfectant I have been waging war on a nasty stomach flu witch im sure not to get until everyone is at full speed and wants to go to the park to run at 100mph. I have been staying almost even washing blankets and following my beloved germ carriers around with the spray bottle. TADAs PODAs well wishes welcome grats on the vaccume cleaner resolution!go warrenties! Hopefully it's only a 24Hopefully it's only a 24 hour bug, Jen. I ended up going to the Mary Kay party (good thing, I was the only one besides the hostess there). But it was at a good friends house and we spent the rest of the day letting the kids play in the "pool" (just an old stock tank) and she and I traded between child watching and riding horses. Can't complain there! I love to ride! We decided we are going to have to do the same next time at my house. I'm excited to get her up on my horse, he's alot different than hers (hers a a barrel racing quarter horse and mine a Tennessee walker that never quite made it to the show ring). So, today I need to fold some laundry and deep clean that bathroom and do the boys room. Then need to make a brocolli casserole for a pot luck thing tonight. One thing I did do was apply to the university in town. No big deal, I should be accepted no problem. I have 7 semesters to complete and time to get busy on that. I hate that's its 7, some of those are part time. But with prereqs, that's the best I can do. I really need to deep clean this whole house really soon. Not only does it need to be done, we are contemplating selling the ranch and building a new house on the farm. I'm sad to sell the place, but I know financially it would be an excellent move for us. We can get at least twice as much as we paid for the place. Jenny Good Afternoon! Jen-wellGood Afternoon! Jen-well wishes sent your way Jenny-would you build first and then move into it or are you thinking of selling first? Wow,after you got your kitchen all nice and all. TADA PODA Heidi Heidi, we would have to sellHeidi, we would have to sell first, then build. In the meantime, we would probably put a single wide trailer right by where we will build til the new house would be completed, then get rid of the trailer. Of course, all this is totally in the early stages. Really too early for me to have said anything. DH has emailed a ranch realtor, but that's as far as we have gotten. As for my kitchen, it's remodeled enough to be a nice kitchen, but far from my dream kitchen. It's still a galley, and there are several things I would have change about it if more funds had been available (double ovens, gas cooktop to name a couple. We were contemplating knocking out a wall to make it much bigger). I would love to have a spacious, well lit kitchen with an island or a snack bar that isn't in the way of anything else. I'd like a seperate dining room with room to have the leaf in the table all the time. I want a master bedroom with a decent closet, and a bathroom attached to the bedroom, with a tub. I would also like a garage that would at least fit 1 of the trucks and my Expedition, and possibly 4 bedrooms (or three larger ones). And a nice covered front porch with room for a swing and a couple of rocking chairs. I've been having fun looking at house plans, but having found the PERFECT one yet (well, not one we can afford anyway. LOL!) TADA: Jenny ![]() Yuck!Jenn, so sorry about the illness. I did some more filing and sorting of stuff in the girls room today, and cleaned off the top my dresser, which is like a giant garbage pile! Everything from pockets in the last several months is up there. I have such exciting news to share -- DH got a new job today! Just got the offer. It is *such* a better job for him, and he'll be working from home, which will be an adventure for all of us. (Finally a push to get that 2nd bathroom going.) Gotta go get ready for our celebration dinner out! ![]() Hi All - Wow, everyone hasHi All - It is fun to dream Jenny! I can't believe that you could sell your house for twice what you paid. Wow! Not here - maybe 1 1/2 if we were lucky. Shaun, congrats to DH. I had surmised that that is what was going on from your blog. He had worked for the U of M,right? How will it be having him home? I s'pose you don't know yet. Yuk Jen! Hope they are better soon, ick ick ick. I am beat - very busy time of year. I have not been home enough to get some things done. Keeping up though, cleaned a bathroom tonight. Purchased DH's gift - a new cell phone - his first. We are going to wrap it and then call it! Should be fun! Getting together with two friends and their kids tomorrow for a couple hours, then three hours of games, then ??????? I'm off guys - Shaun, congrats to DH on hisShaun, congrats to DH on his new job!!! Andrea, how cool your husband is finally going to enter the 21st century, whether he wants to or not! LOL! Selling the house: We bought this place super cheap. It was a foreclosure auction on the courthouse steps. Only us and one other guy were bidding on it, our banker approved us to go higher than him. The lowest price we could get it then was to pay off the owners bank notes, and it barely did that. This time it will be sold by the going price of land these days. And lately it's been higher than we expected. We are hoping to take advantage of that. I got that bathroom done! Today I'm going to tackle the boys room. Weather says 101 today, guess we will be in. I may let the kids have some fun in the sprinkler. And I'll probably play around online looking for my perfect house plan. LOL! Our only plans for Father's Day is the inlaws are coming over for some burgers. We got DH that new Larry the Cable Guy movie w/ Jenny McCarthy (he would leave me for her, I know it. LOL!). If anyone is the praying type, please pray we get some rain soon. We have a few chances next week, and we REALLY need a couple inches on the farm so we can plant this year's crops. Really appreciate it! ![]() Snake questionOK, why do you bury the snake's head separate from its body? I spent too much time online today trying to find the answer. I did learn that snake's heads will bite up to an hour after being completely severed from the body. There's some kind of instinct that triggers the bite. I read some crazy stories, but apparently it is true! We had a relaxed day today -- a little work, went to a matinee at the cheap theater, and worked on getting DD9 ready for camp. Sounds like fun father's day plans, guys. We have *nothing* planned except that we picked up some chicken legs to grill. (Not very vegetarian, I know.) We spent a big pile of money last weekend on new clothes and shoes for DH's job interview (he has to fly out to HQ for an orientation, so at least those clothes will get one more airing!) and all of our time and thought has been on the job and on camp. Whoops! Well, is there a better FD present than a much much better job?! DH and my dads will have to wait til next week. Shaun, I'm not sure. ExceptShaun, I'm not sure. Except that "My FIL told me to". Maybe because it's easier to just bury the head than the rest of the body? Harder for the dog to find both pieces of the body? I really don't know. LOL! I just do as I'm told. I got the boys room clean today! whoohoo!! I found pieces of things that were lost and put them back where they belong. I boxed up a box of toys in hopes that they will seem like new again (and it worked. They kept playing with the items that hadn't been played with that were in the box. LOL!). Packed up all the old cloth diapers, etc. Fixed chili for dinner, all kids are bathed. DH is fixin' to walk on the treadmill, and then we are going to watch "Chuck and Larry" along with some drinks and popcorn (drinks for me, popcorn for the kids). DS2 didn't have a nap today, so hoping he will crash sometime before 11 tonight. LOL! Inlaws coming over for dinner tomorrow. I'm going to fix DH botulism for breakfast (eggs, cheese, potatoes and onions). And briscut for dinner. Or burgers. What a day...Sorry for the really long post! I am jealous of how focused you all are. I wish I could get more done. I need structure and discipline. I am seriously lacking in both. I also have a touch of ADD, procrastination, and denial all wrapped into one PODA DD channeled her sadness and cleaned her closet and her room. She is the most organized person I know. Her room looks like it is out of BH&G. She even went through all her drawers and filled up a bag to give to our neighbor. DD had baseball game. 97 degrees. I stayed for 3 innings and then bailed out. Came home and took nap. This heat absolutely drains me. Went to eat dinner at my favorite restaurant....Luby's. They are changing it up and I don't like it as much. However, it was kids eat free! DH hates Luby's, so I consider it a really big move that he even suggested it. Finally got the office/guest room cleaned out. That is where I dumped all my piles. Am feeling pretty good about it. All my school papers are in one nice container to be filed. If I never get to it, I will be ok. Found second birth certificate that I needed for DS. Saved a trip into the city for that one! Went to vacuum and the stupid thing broke again. Yep, kicking it to the curb on Tuesday! Tomorrow will probably be shot. Church at 11:00, DD bbgame at 1:00. Will be hot again, so I will surely come home drained and take a nap. Maybe in my to do list I should start including naptime. Somewhere in there I need to make a trip to the Grocery/Walmart. Got a Paula Deen cookbook at the library and there are a few recipes I am going to try. Venturing outside the box. DH already warned me "if you can't cook it on the grill, you can't eat it". How did I end up with him? (Mr. Recliner watching a 13 inch tv.. Ha!) Ya'll have a great evening!! Linda, I know you aren'tLinda, I know you aren't talking about me with structure and discipline! LOL! Do you know how many DAYS it took me to actually sit down and get the boys' room clean? Your poor DD! Maybe they will decide to do a level 3 team afterall? They should have stated that intention from the start. What Paula Deen stuff are you going to try? I'm a HUGE fan of hers, I have every cookbook and subbed to her magazine for a while. She is a true southern cook, many of her recipies are exactly what my grandmother fixed. LUV her fried chicken. Keep lots of butter on hand. No flying today. And I think I'm going to skip the briscuit and cook burgers and fries instead. Need to make a cherry cobbler for dessert. hot dayIt registered 103 today. Too hot. Went to church, then baseball. Jenny, I don't think I ever answered you that DH plays bass guitar. When I met him he played country bars for fun. He organized a band at work and they play mostly classic rock at their business functions. He plays contemporary christian at church every Sunday. Anyway, DS won the first baseball game, but DD and I bailed after that. They lost the second one. Stopped at FIL on the way home. Said hello and grabbed the tree trimmer from him. Proceeded to cut a few limbs out of the front yard before getting it stuck. Dang. DH isn't home yet and will get a laugh out of that one. I burned chicken legs on the grill and made baked beans, green beans and biscuits for supper. Also made some guacamole for me. I will sit later and eat chips and guac and watch TV in my messy house. Decided I can't do anything on the weekends. Too much going on and I should just accept it! Paula Deen kitchen classics my newest adventure. Her recipes are alot like my BHG cookbook. My famous meatloaf is very similar to hers. The secret is the brown sugar and ketchup glaze. However, I make about two cups of it and bake it on the top. YUM. I am going to try her Chicken and Rice casserole. DH won't eat anything resembles a cassarole, but the kids will. I had her banana pudding at a friends and it was to die for. I went to Savannah, Georgia once and loved the cooking there. But, since I live in Texas, I am pretty much a southern cook also. I perfected the Fried Chicken recipe fresh out of college. The secret is to cook it in Crisco. She cooks it that way in her book too. I am a meat and potatoes with a vegetable and roll person. I like lots of butter and honey. My mom made supper that way all my life. It is a shame that we are so blow and go, that we can't do that. The only time we all sit down and have a meal together is when we are in a restaurant. I am going to try to get to be early tonight. I am going to work on my to do list for tomorrow. We have no appointments and I want to go to the pool. Maybe that will be my reward if I get some things done. The movie RV is on for the 100th time. I am going to go watch it and laugh. I can so relate to that movie. Hope all you girls gave dh aHope all you girls gave dh a good father's day! Was fine here, hot. We tried to stay cool in the AC, it got 104 here. It still felt a bit too warm in the house. Our heat pump isn't quite big enough for the whole house, the previous owners put it in. But, we survived. We grilled the burgers, my cherry cobbler experiment turned out decent enough to eat (don't ask). DS5 got to go home with the inlaws to spend the night by himself (that is, without his sisters). Linda, my husband taught himself bass guitar a few years ago. He gets together with a bunch of guys and gals once a month or so to pick. Will play the Sunday show at a big music thing the Lion's club does every year, too. I'm teaching myself regular guitar, and as soon as I do that, I'll work on teaching the kids. My FIL decided at age 60 he wanted to learn the fiddle, so he found one on ebay and drives my MIL crazy with it now. He drags her off to all these fiddling things over OK and Texas, and at home only plays in the only room with a TV. LOL! We only play Country stuff, really. DH isn't into classic rock (but I love classic rock, and a bit of heavy metal, too). Well, it's Monday, ain't it. I need to print off checks and get those bills mailed. I hope to workout on the treadmill before the rugrats get up. Going to try to do a quick home blessing, pickup the boys room (should be easy), and would really like to deep clean DH's bathroom. Ugh, I hate that bathroom. Ya'll aren't praying hard enough for rain for me down here. They took off ALL those chances we had this week (3 60%s, gone!!!). Maybe I should just wash my expedition.... Good Morning! TADA morningGood Morning! TADA PODA DD started camp today, will go for 3 weeks. Then DS starts and goes for 3 weeks. I staggered it so I get one on one time while the other is at camp and they are not home to gether to drive me and each other crazy!! LOL Jenny- I hope you get rain, don't believe the weatherman! Heidi ![]() Monday Oh Monday!I'm not sure but I think that there was some old superstition about the snakes head re-attaching to the body if you bury them together, kinda like a reptile regrowing a limb. Im pretty sure its just superstition though. I do know that the snakes muscles can still contract just like a humans post mortem I do miss Luby's we dont have them here but in Texas I came to know and love it. I also miss jack in the box and what a burger and taco casa and dairy queen being a resturant and not just ice cream! The food was sooo much better. Next week I just HAVE to make french fries and gravy. I turned my nose up at it but once I tried it. mmmmmmmm! So sorry to hear about your DD's cheer upse |
