Where do I begin the organization process!?

Submitted by lindayanez on Mon, 05/26/2008 - 3:36pm.

Well, this looks like a good site to blog about my struggles with housework, organization, my weight and my life in general. I am a 48 year old mother of 2 grown sons and 5 stepchildren, 1 at home, 2 with their mother nearby and 2 grown and flown the nest. I have done office work a good deal of my life while raising children, which is why, at the age of 48 I still don't feel organized! I live in Southern California. I trained as a psychiatric technician, worked for 7 months and then got fired for breaking up a fight between 2 clients in a non protocol way. (No one was hurt and they actually got less hurt by my actions). My union is fighting my firing but that will take 9 months or so. So, I'm at home more, and soo glad. I'm taking a college course, but other than that I vow to clean and organize my little house from top to bottom over the next few months! I hope! And I hope to drop maybe 10 lb.s a month and blog about my struggles and hopefully, victories.

Welcome! Sounds like a hazardous job you have there! LOL! Were you supposed to let them duke it out and last one standing wins? haha!

I'm not the most organized person, but I've had some success with the flylady program. It's a free program off the internet (www.flylady.net), sign-up for her yahoo group from her website and you get email reminders of various things to do (like do a load of laundry real quick, and other household chores).

She also has a plan to organize your home. By breaking your home into zones (living room, kitchen, master bed/bath, other bed/bath) and working on decluttering and deep cleaning one zone per week. Other things like a 27-fling boogie (quick, grab 27 things to throw away or give away) and hot spot fire drill (grab a stack of things that don't belong and put them away).

The key is to not spend all day, but work on something for 15 minutes. Don't get overwelmed and don't procrastinate, just do it (good advice for me right now).
