How much are you worth?

According to the British website alljoinin.com, the average British housewife would earn £30,000 were she actually paid for her labor. That's well over the actual average wage in Britain. At the current exchange rate, that's just under $60,000. That number has stayed amazingly consistent--this isn't the first time something like this has been calculated out.
So should homemakers be paid a wage? I say no--I mean, who's paying?--but we do deserve more legal protection than we have.

RE: Pay for Homemakers
The way my hubby and I set it up...is this...I do the bills and handle finances...and I constantly let him know where the money is going ....any "major" or "big" purchase is usually discussed and agreed upon prior to purchase...smaller purchases are usually on a trust sort of basis...
He realizes (today anyway) that me being at home has saved our financial future...it furthered his career, which was a good thing because it enabled us to be in a better income bracket, that my budgeting has saved us thousands of dollars, at the grocery store, clothing..(I love Goodwill), my sewing the kids clothes when they were small also supplemented savings.
and for me it is not only the monetary value of being a home-maker...it has allowed me to develop and "make a home" in a spiritual sense....So getting paid for being a homemaker, wouldnt be a bad thing...but I think I got paid the past 23 years in payments that are priceless....

I get paid! LOL! A
I get paid! LOL! A whopping $250/month (which I'm allowed to use for groceries, since I take it out of my grocery budget). Actually, just a tax thing. DH pays me for my bookkeeping on the farm, I get to deduct health costs or something like that. Accountant has it all figured out. Dang, I guess I need a raise!!
Payment...
The other day, I made a great find...a World Book Encyclopedia set for $11, which goes for $600 online (it's 2006), which I bought. I figured if I resold it for the $600, my wage would have been about $2000/hour, because of the short period of time I'd have had to work to recoup the $590. I've been doing this a lot lately (Goodwill had a fill a bag for $25 sale, and you can fit a lot of brand name clothes to resell in the big bag they handed out!) I've been looking at the $$ I save (and make!)lately by being home, and the high quality of life we have for the little amount we're pulling in, and decided that I already know my being home is worth much more than any dollar amount any one could get out of an equation.
By the way, I kept the encyclopedias...they have been invaluable lately...my kids have taught themselves so many topics!!
compensation for homemaking?
I agree that we should have more rights..namely, the right to health care. If the government wanted to encourage a more healthy family life, they might offer us some sort of tax break or affordable health care. I'm sure, in reality, our government is unwilling to take any stance that might be portrayed as biased or prejudiced in any way, but in a perfect world they just might take a look at our society and the moral-values-nose-dive it's done since women were 'encouraged/forced' out of the home for longer and longer hours. I wonder if those could be the same 'society related' problems that seem to be spilling over into our schools and our test scores and our full to the brink juvenile delinquent centers? hmmm?
I make these statements with no judgement to women who literally 'have to' work..I had to work the last 2 years while my youngest stayed with a sitter most of the day and my mom picked up my oldest from school. God has blessed me with an opportunity to stay home this last year before my 3 year old goes off to preschool and I am sooooo happy and have seen so many positive changes in my little ones' attitude and behavior.
This is a great website.
