There's a lot, so I'll bullet point. (Just now learned how to do this in HTML for this post, impressive, non?)
- I have been in a bit of a funk, though I feel like I may finally be crawling up out of it, or at least partway out. Spent a lot of time this winter with my nose buried in escapist fiction instead of living my life.
- I've lost 23 pounds without doing anything but take the nutritional supplements my Naturo/Homeopath prescribed and (mostly) avoiding my food intolerances. My pants fit better.
- I celebrate this with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Hershey's with Almonds, naturally. The ugly little compulsive overeating saboteur has resumed residence upon my shoulder whispering, "You want chocolate" and other heresies that I submit to.
- DD has changed classrooms and is in a little funk of her own. She's having a hard time making friends this year, both in the former classroom and in this one. In Kindergarten last year, she was hugely popular, so this has been very hard for her. Many tearful conversations over the past week.
- DD is also not brushing her teeth properly. The nightly brushing of teeth has become a nightmare of epic proportions. She plays and plays and plays, doesn't brush properly, is sent back to redo sometimes four or five times, and is taking up to 45 minutes to brush teeth. We haven't had a bedtime story in months because she uses up all her time with the not brushing the teeth. I'm at my wits end.
- And even though I can't even manage to teach my only child the basics of oral hygiene, I'm feeling an inescapable urge to get the ball rolling with foster care/adoption. We've been talking about it in a limited way ever since we gave up trying to have another child after my second miscarriage, but something, I don't know what, lit a fire under me last week and I went to the library, checked out some books on the subject, and have been searching the internet trying to get more info.
- Turns out, when visting craig's list for something completely different, I find out that there is an informational meeting, "Thinking of becoming a foster parent?", by the Foster Family Care Network at my library next week, which I'm taking as a postive sign. Oh, and I plan on going.
- Even though I've felt like I've been dropping the ball in many ways, I've managed, as the leader of the Stewardship and Finance Team, to help our church raise more funds in 2007 for the annual special offerings for local and global charities than the previous year. A little dose of personal triumph.
- It took three days, but we managed to finally get DDs playroom cleaned. Toys are organized on the shelves or in either the time-out box, in the too-old-for-it-anymore boxes, or in bags for the charity thrift store. Not to mention several bags of trash. It's been mentioned a few times lately that when I was her age, I could count the number of toys I had on the fingers of my two hands.
- The kitchen sink is plugged up. Again. It does this annually. I've got some enzymatic cleaner sitting in it right now, creating a heady perfume in the kitchen (where I'm sitting, typing this--I love wireless! I'm free, baby, free!) but we can't run the dishwasher and I can't really finish cleaning the kitchen until it works it's magic in 12 to 24 hours. Argh.
There's more, but I've run out of time. I just remembered that there's some more church business I need to do tonight and email off to the church secretary.
Thanks for listening, gals, TTFN
