Not Too Shabby

Submitted by witchiepoo on Wed, 01/02/2008 - 12:06pm.

I flew pretty well last week, and I'm excited about the state of the house. I tried to do a little 15 minutes of something during "breaks" like between chapters, during commercials, waiting for web pages to load...

I folded laundry while I was on the phone.

Flung in the fridge while waiting for DH to get out of the shower.

Did the good 'ole shish-n-swipe when I got out of the shower.

That's gonna be my new strategy this year.

TADA

I hope everyone had a peaceful Christmas and a fun New Year.

Old to new

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 01/02/2008 - 2:46pm.

had this on the old thread. Thought I would just MOOOOve it on over here!!

Honey, I'm home!!

We had the ultimate Christmas and SURPRISED my mother, et al, for the holidays. And boy, did it surprise them! LOL! It was lots of fun though, with LOTS of references to National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (we took the RV, and it made the neighbors Christmas when we pretended to dump the holding tanks into the sewer, all while holding a beer and shouting "shitters full". They are my mother's best friends and they all LOVE that movie). It was just great! But driving 1300 miles with 4 kids wasn't that much fun. LOL! They were well behaved, even the baby. But man that's long!

So now, home.

I have a camper to unload and much stuff to find places for. Laundry to do, Christmas to put away. I should put the computer away and not get it out til it's all done (but then when would I be back?).

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Hey Honey! You stole my

Submitted by jennye on Thu, 01/03/2008 - 7:03am.

Hey Honey! You stole my PODA and TADAS!! LOL!!!

Yesterday was nice to come home, relax a bit in my home (which seems bigger after 3 days on the road! LOL!). It was COLD so I only unloaded essentials from the camper. But today's weather shows getting up into the 50's, so I believe I will try to accomplish some things.

PODA:
*unload camper
*and clean it up some before it gets parked
*work on laundry

No, that's not all. Just, EVERYTHING. LOL! But I also want to sit, relax at my desk with my NEW 20" flatscreen computer monitor (my Christmas present from DH), and make my goals and resolutions for the new year (in other words, make some lists and plans for the year). I think I'll be getting rid of DH for the day (his new barn was completed while we were away, and he is SO excited, he can't wait to fill it up with tools and equipment). So I'm sure he will be out there or out shopping for needed items for it.

Just me this week? Well,

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 7:03am.

Just me this week? Well, ok! LOL!

My TADA yesterday:
*camper unloaded
*3 loads of laundry done AND put away (AND I cleaned off the dryer in the laundry room, so I have more surface space to fold the laundry!)
*Took down the tree and all other Christmas decor in an effort to get my house back
*vacuumed living room and dusted
*worked on my goals for the new year

Today's PODA:
*2 or 3 more loads of laundry
*make a grocery list?

I'm not sure what all the day will hold in store. My MIL has my neice and nephew (SIL and hubby went to Las Vegas. The one in Nevada, not the one in New Mexico. LOL!). We will probably go over there to play. And while I'm out I can pick up the last 2 weeks of mail that's sitting in the post office. Won't THAT be fun! I may have to run to town for groceries, not sure.

return a call from one of DS17's teachers (Grrrrrrr)
dinner: griled marinated beef tenderloin, roasted asperagus, baked potatoes

early to bed

I'm doing some consulting and have to figure out how to do a comprehensive evaluation on an unmediated child (no contact with anyone except her grandmother for 8 years, she's non-verbal). So, I have some major internet research/emailing to do...

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 01/05/2008 - 7:27am.

Oh my gosh, Jo! Really, good luck with that little girl! It's a challenging task but I'm sure you will do great.

Yesterday's TADA:
*two loads of laundry done, folded, put away
*sorta watched two other kids all morning (I say sorta. The guys that came out to finish the barn brought their two kids, ages 5 and 9. The 5 year old is in DS5's class, so I invited them up to play while dads worked)
*picked up 2 weeks worth of mail (still must sort)
*picked up alot of paper trash in the office (but there is still more. I swear the stuff breeds while I'm asleep!!)

Didn't get much other than that accomplished because about 1 I went to the inlaws and didn't get home til after 10 last night. I did, however, help MIL cook and clean up over there, does that count? LOL!

PODA:
*two more loads of laundry (and that should catch me up!)
*work on girls room with them
*because I didn't get Christmas cards out AGAIN this year, write a couple of letters (well, type. My handwriting is horrid, and I have some pain in my index finger making it hard to grasp a pen for long this morning. Hoping some Tylenol will fix that soon)
*get Christmas decor boxes out of garage and into the storage house.

Oh, and DH got electricity to his barn yesterday. Today he is putting up lights. And I shall be gathering things throughout the house that will LEAVE my house and take up new residence in his barn (like drills, misc. tools, etc). I've got a box started already!

Hi Everyone -

Definitely count the work at inlaws Jenny! DH must be excited about his barn.

Just got back from DS's first basketball game. They did really well - they don't keep an overall score - reset the scoreboard at the end of each period - but they won each period so I guess they won!

TADA so far:
dw emptied
walked
one load of laundry done
game

PODA:
last of Xmas stuff down
clean baseboards upstairs
dust mop upstairs
do some scrapping
maybe a quick WM run
laundry finished
2 beds changed

dinner: rib eye steaks (maybe grilled), broccoli, something with potatoes?

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 8:20am.

Andrea, I never heard of resetting the score for each period! That's weird. Glad he had a good game. Hopefully I will hear soon which teams my girls got on.

I only got the laundry done yesterday. DH needed my help a bit out in the barn, putting in several light fixtures and lots of electrical outlets (which he still isn't done with). One of my jobs was to wheel his butt around on the scaffold. Kinda fun. I made a few lists, wrote a letter for the preschool parents (I'm in charge of organizing a bake sale). Made dinner (Pork chops, stove top, green beans) and cleaned it all up. Then the kids and I played Disney SceneIt in my bed (because exhausted DH had fallen asleep on the sofa).

Today the kids and I are going to church. I'll go get groceries while they are in SS. Then I'll drop the girls off at the inlaws so they can spend the night (school starts Tuesday).

scratch church. Kids weren't up for it this morning, and SIL is in town at the inlaws house, will probably be gone by the time we get home. So, new plan: go to inlaws. After I round up some breakfast.

Hey everyone - Jenny, I

Submitted by Andrea on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 1:30pm.

Hey everyone -
Jenny, I think the idea is to take some of the competition, which can be negative, out of it. But of course, kids and parents are keeping score in their heads! This is just a community basketball league. When modified basketball starts in 7th grade I'm sure the scoreboard will be up and running the regular way!

We scratched church today for the first time in a very long time. I got quite a bit done here, Christmas finally put away , just doing a bit of vacuuming, etc. Starting to think about redoing DD's room - I got her a really nice comforter and cover earlier in the fall, but we never painted or got accessories. She wants each wall to be a different color, but I'm not buying it!

Submitted by Shaun on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 5:34pm.

I've been going over my old flylady stuff, trying to start fresh again. It is not easy to adapt to our current lifestyle -- too many activities -- school, business, etc. -- going on in one house!

Take heart -- I was just working on my Christmas cards today! I'm out of address labels, so I printed them on regular paper and will cut and paste them on the envelopes. Just don't make me write!

You are better than I am, Shaun! I just completely skipped the cards all together.

Andrea, I want to do some decorating! While in ATL, I went to my first PotteryBarn Kids store and brought home catalogs (I've gotten catalogs before, just never been in a store). Man, I just want to redo everything!! If only we won the lottery...

Mark me up for NADA today. Too busy at the inlaws house.

Life is fixin' to get a WHOLE lot busier here. BB coach just called. I'll be going to town at least 3 times a week for that. LOL!

Drove all night Saturday and got home Sunday afternoon. The van is unpacked, bought milk and oj,did laundry. Today I need to grocery shop and pick up mail at Post Office, and start putting away Xmas decor. Kids are back in school today. They called me to sub but I had to say no,we really have no food here!!! Must do that if nothing else. Sounds like everyone is busy but well. Hellos to all of you.

Hi All -
I love PBKids too Jenny - we have a store about 40 minutes from here. That is actually where I got her comforter, etc. Paid too much. Their sale stuff is easier to swallow pricewise. Overstock.com also has a lot of fun stuff as does Target. I am going low budget for the rest of her room! I'll put pictures on my blog when I'm done.

Back to work today, moving kind of slow. Just maintaining today at home - the house is in ok shape. Not sure what's for dinner - DS has been bugging me to make homemade split pea soup of all things, so I may do that.

Sounds like a nice trip Heidi!

Submitted by jennye on Mon, 01/07/2008 - 7:18am.

Welcome home, Heidi!! What kind of teacher calls in sick on the first day back from a 2 week vacation!? LOL!

Andrea, I can't wait to see pictures of her room! I LOVE PBKs gingham sheets. My girls have been drooling over the Teen catalog, but I'm in tears looking at the baby/kids one (can I have another baby please?! LOL! Just kidding. For now. LOL!).

We have no milk and no bread. Not a good thing. I will have to go to Walmart today. I'm going to look around and see what they have in terms of storage that are similar to PBKs for things like magazines and CDs. I've given DH his first building project in the new barn: a shelf to run about a foot from the ceiling for the whole east wall in the girls' room. I can put pretties and trophies and all my old horse models on it.

Tonight we are having dinner at a friends house.

Walmart (got groceries, but they didn't have some of the other things like Pottery Barn has. I'll try Hobby Lobby next time I'm in that town. Or maybe Target.com has something. I do wish we had one closer than 2 hours).
Dinner at friends was cancelled, she is sick. But made some good ol' burritos here since DH skipped his meeting.

That's all I really got done today. Kids are back to school tomorrow (I love them, but I am thankful for a slight break from them). I'll be back in the a.m.!!

Heidi, I need to tackle

Submitted by jennye on Tue, 01/08/2008 - 8:25am.

Heidi, I need to tackle paperwork today as well. 2007 filing, paying this months bills, getting stuff ready for the tax guy. And while I'm here in the office, I'll be cleaning up a few more things. I had planned for this office to be MY office. BUT, DH has other plans, and it's instead going to be another living area, someday. Directv is coming out Thursday to install my DVR, and while I got them here, we want another line put in the office-soon-to-be-livingroom. It will be more of a room for the kids to watch their stuff while adults can still gather and watch what they want in the main living room. That way, the kids have their own TV without it being in their room.

Sorry, had a ramble.

I think tonight I may bring home pizza for dinner. We have BB practice til 6:30, so that will work out great.

Jenny-I vote for pizza anytime!! Our kids don't have TVs in their rooms either. They can watch DVDs or shows on the main one so we can monitor. If we want to watch something that is not appropriate for them, they can go up in our room and watch there instead.

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 01/09/2008 - 9:58am.

Heidi, that's kinda how we are. TV in the living room, one in our bedroom. But the kids don't always agree on what to watch (4 of them tend to disagree, and DS2 usually wins because, well, I say so!). So I think this will be a good alternative.

I didn't get much of my paperwork stuff done yesterday. Maybe I can tackle it some today. Got sidetracked with moving a TV around (it was in the boys room, but it played movies only. Usually Thomas the Tank Engine or Toy Story). Pizza last night was yummy!

This morning was unexpectedly early. the kids all made Honor roll and brought home a note saying Honor Roll Breakfast at 7am this morning followed by awards assembly. So, I've been there all morning. Since getting back home, I'm working on second load of laundry, run dishwasher, and cleaned all bathrooms. Trying to get the house clean since the TV guy will be here tomorrow.

No poda, just the usual.

I got 5 loads of laundry done, still two to fold. Bathrooms cleaned. Got some letters written, some pictures scanned, but I'm procrastinating the paperwork thing. But together some shelves I got at Walmart for movies (put all the kids stuff on it). Made a pretty good dinner (stuffed shells, salad, followed by banana bread). I stayed pretty busy all day, but looking around the house there isn't much to show for it.

DirecTV guy comes today, between 4 and 8. I'll get the living room and office and kitchen cleaned up pretty good. Will even light up my Bath and Body works oil thingie I got last month. Make the house smell purty!

TGIF! Yes, even I am saying

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 01/11/2008 - 8:17am.

TGIF! Yes, even I am saying that today. We didn't have school on Monday, so we are making up for it today. Dh didn't realize that and had already told DS5 they would stay up playing games. Well, he wasn't very pleased when I made him go to bed because it was a school night. LOL!

We got a DVR! Guy was supposed to be here between 4-8 yesterday. He called at 1:30, wanted to know if it would be ok if he came on out. Why, yes, that would be just fine! He was done before 4. DH was able to record All in the Family and Frasier while he slept, can watch them some other time now. And the kids are thrilled that they can now watch their shows, too.

Someone ought to just come in and condemn the girls' room. It's HORRIBLE! Even when they pick up the floor, it's just shoved to the sides. And there is still a MOUSE in there! I'm about sick of this mice thing. I'm fixin' to just douche that room!

Girls have a basketball scrimmage tonight in town, and another tomorrow. I've also told friends daughter that I would babysit her 6 month old today if she needs it. So, I should get crackin' on that room!

BTW, Bath and Body works scented oil thingies: HIGHLY recommend them. My house smells so goooood! Not the plug-in ones, the oils you use with a candle thingie. Love it!

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 01/12/2008 - 7:28am.

Jo, did you remodel the whole kitchen? Would love to see pics sometime! That is one of our next projects, but I leaning more towards corian (spelling?). Cheaper than granite, better than plain old laminate or whatever it is.

Would you believe I caught THREE mice in the last 24 hours in the girls' room!!?? OMG, I'm so disgusted!!! No school today (of course), and I'm fixing to go on the rampage in there. I went thru some clothes yesterday. But as usual, life got busy with other things.

So, work on girls' room, WITH the girls. Though they are having a fit about going in their room if there are still mice in there (they are in there because THEY have left candy in there and the room is a pig sty. Perfect hiding place for mice!!). They won't even sleep in there, but instead are sleeping in the boys' room (it's THAT bad to them!).

We only have the morning for this, because the Varsity girls play today in a big tournament (for 3rd place. WTG Broncos!!), then the next game my girls scrimmage during halftime. Will stop by Walmart and get groceries. Oh, and I may get to do all of the above with NO BOYS!! Whoohoo!!

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 01/13/2008 - 7:55am.

Dang toddler, keeps me from getting my work done!! His demands of being held, or for "something else" to eat (his favorite right now is raisin bran, but only to pick out the sugar coated raisins. I've tried to trick him by adding regular raisins to it, but he's a smart toot). Anyway, we got thru all the clothes in the closet in the girls room yesterday. Which isn't much. We packed away seasonal things (finally) and got out winter stuff (again, finally). And got a whole big tub of too small and unwanted stuff out. Still, much to be done.

Why is it that Pottery Barn Teen has the ONLY storage solution baskets/boxes I'm looking for? Walmart had NOTHING close, neither do other chain stores online. Ticks me off!!

Today, I'm ditching church. Well, that's nothing new. I really was going to go, but they scheduled a church ad-min board meeting (of which I'm secretary of) for 3. So, when church/SS is over at 11:45, what am I going to do for the next 3 hours? So, ditching church and will go to the meeting later.

In the meantime, I'll work on the girls room some more. I bought more tubs and laundry baskets at Walmart yesterday.

I've been working on paperwork all morning. Ugh. No where near done. I've just been balancing checkbook and updating quicken, haven't begun to pay the bills yet.

money, money, money. We don't have enough, the church doesn't have enough. I had admin board meeting at church last night, and a good hour was spent arguing over the budget and getting it approved.

My husband managed to blow up the grill last night. Yup, that's right. As in, he singed off a good bit of his eyelashes and eyebrows, moustache, and had to use a fire extingusher. Oh my. Inlaws were on there way over for dinner, and I had no grill to cook the steaks on!! Ended up broiling them (that was a new adventure for me).

Like I needed something else to do, I told friends daughter I would babysit every Tuesday for her, starting tomorrow. Well, at least she is paying me for it.

Well, I need to go help DH out in the field. Moving equipment to another field, gotta road him back and forth. Then pick up the kids, come home and do homework before we go to a friends house for dinner (DH has board meeting tonight).

Submitted by jennye on Mon, 01/14/2008 - 9:21pm.

LOL! No, the grill fit in with the fire fighting training. Actually, it was DD10 who ran after the extingusher. Way to go Jr. firefighter (she is a member of the dept, afterall!)

Friends DD is 20. Friend's DDs baby is 6 months. She is still going to school and subbing some on the side. But this semester I guess the classes she needed were only offered on Tuesday. I don't mind. I probably won't even let her pay me (she and her hubby are so young, afterall, and need all the help they can get).

I won't be around in the morning. Picking up the baby at school when I drop off the kids (baby's grandmother is DS5's teacher. We have it worked out that I pick him up at school in the mornings and will drop him off when I pick up the kids in the afternoon). Then I have to head up to C-town for some errands. Tomorrow night is basketball practice for the girls, so will be back to town for me. Whoohoo!! NOT!! LOL!

Good morning!!
Heidi, hope DS is feeling better today.

I got half the girls room done yesterday. Today, will tackle under the bed. Oh, I'm not putting it all away. So far I have filled one large tub of schtuff. If they don't get it put away, I will either give it away or throw it away. But I am getting the room clean! But with it in the tubs, I can hide those easily and room will be clean.

Yesterday I also got a couple of errands done (not the Hobby Lobby. Didn't feel like messing with the baby I was babysitting and DS2 in there). But got DH registered for his EMT course, dropped off some checks, and last night did the grocery store while DDs had basketball practice.

As mentioned, I will finish the girls room today. I also have a more important matter of some paperwork. Which I better do right now.

I'm here!

Submitted by Andrea on Fri, 01/18/2008 - 7:26pm.

Hey Everyone -
I'm here! Always reading you know!

Fish are fun Heidi, although they are too smelly for me! We have had a few and they are very relaxing to watch - wish they had fish that don't require cleaning of the bowl! Of course they are way easier than a puppy! Don't get me started on that one.

Winding up a typical week - somewhat stressful as we were planning our spring vacation. Kind of wrapped that up tonite - we are going to Florida for a week - haven't nailed down the lodging yet though We have many family obligations also, so it is tricky to travel without feeling guilty!

DH has been a saint - vacuumed, dust mopped, swept, changed sheetsm and actually cleaned my kitchen floor on his hands and knees the way I like it! I learned this from my housekeeper that I no longer have - it works really well and is actually easier than mopping. He also did a WM run today and picked up watches at the jewelry store (batteries). Hmmmm, what did I do? Cooked, dishes, laundry put away (he did that too). I really am lucky I guess as much as I complain.

DD and I are going to HSM on Ice tomorrow and out for lunch. Should be fun. DS has a game which I will miss. Then DS's party is Monday - we are doing a sports garden event where the boys can play soccer, kickball, dodgeball, and basketball for a couple hours and also have lunch in there. Should be a good time.

I read Susannah's blog - seems like she is doing well. Very busy of course. She always keeps up a great attitude - I admire that.

Andrea, how was HSM on Ice? My girls would have loved that!

Heidi, have fun with the fish tank. I'm sure DD will love watching them!

Homecoming was last night. My cheerleaders did excellent! Especially the last half of the boys game, when the Varsity cheerleaders were absent (getting ready for the homecoming festivities after the game). It was harder than I thought. It's one thing cheering along with the varsity girls. Quite another figuring out which cheer to do when on your own (especially since I never was a cheerleader) . But we came thru and did pretty good!

We are having company over for dinner tonight. I made the BBQ yesterday, it will be wonderful tonight. Me and dd8 (and hopefully DS5) will work on the house and get it spiffed up. Need to vacuum and mop as well as picking up and quick wipedown of bathrooms. Margaritas are in the freezer, beer in the fridge. Find a recipe for hash brown casserole (Cracker Barrel). Or may just do mashed taters.

Glad the show was good, Andrea! Wish I lived closer to some of these HSM/Hannah Montana stuff. The HM movie won't be around here next month I'm sure. Well, small price to pay for being in the country, right?

Dinner last night went well. I made Paula Deen's hashbrown potato casserole, a chocolate merangue (sp?) pie, and an apple pie. The guests brought a vegetable (green beans with velveta and a can of rotel tomato/chili) and a chocolate dish that was yummy. I had also made homemade rolls, but for some reason after 8 hours they hadn't done what they were supposed to do. I managed to salvage them about midnight last night, we can eat them today I guess.

DH insisted on homemade waffles this morning. I haven't bothered to unload the dishwasher or clean up this morning's mess. I'm just being lazy now. I want to just be lazy today. Can I, please? LOL!

Hey Jenny, you are a saint to watch that baby!

Made a great dinner tonite - pork roast marinated in maple, soy, sesame (got this from Jo), I threw carrots and pre cut butternut squash in the dutch oven - roasted for 3 hours at 325 or so. Spinach salad and baked potato on the side. Bread for kids. Yum! My favorite was the carrots and butternut squash - caramelized. Flying, not so much, just maintaining.

Got rid of 17 things from my side of the closet. Then I got to organizing DH's side, plus his other closet (yes, he has two closets and more clothes than I do). I got him to get rid of about 1/4 of his stuff, too (he had shirts 20 years old from high school in there!!!). Whoohoo!! Now, if you take a shirt off the hanger, it still won't stay packed tight in the closet. LOL!

Today's PODA:

*finish doing something with all those clothes I just got out of the closets
*go out and get excersaucer and get it cleaned up for the baby I babysit on Tuesday's. he needs a toy while here!!
*find my daddy's old camera that he had in 'Nam.

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 01/26/2008 - 3:29pm.

Whew!! It's after 4 and we are finally home! We had to be in town at 8am. Girls won their first game, lost the second. Ate chinese, had to buy dd10 new shoes (good tennis shoes, not the cheap ones at Walmart), then still had to go to Walmart because the shoe place didn't have socks that would fit her. Couple other errands before getting to come home.

Heidi, the bake sale went good. We had a bit left over. One of the teachers brought a snow cone machine and the kids really ate that stuff up rather than the homemade stuff (except the burritos, which were gone before 1st lunch was over). But we made $335 anyway. This will pay for our end of the year field trip, t-shirts, snacks, and lunch for the whole preschool.

Three days of not being here and the house has fallen apart! How does that happen when we aren't home? I will probably ditch church again tomorrow and try to catch up on stuff (and sleep in a little. Today really threw us in a loop).

Hi Everyone!
Busy day for you Jenny. What type of burritos do you sell? Bean? Nobody would ever think of that out here, but I bet they would sell! Actually, I think in NYS you can't sell homebaked stuff at schools - it's a shame.

Sounds like a great idea for a party Heidi - I should try it. Lots of our friends are our kids' friends' parents and so having them over for a formal dinner doesn't really work. What finger foods did you make?

Most of our burritos are

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 01/26/2008 - 8:30pm.

Most of our burritos are beef, potatoes, beans and green chili. Although sometimes someone will throw a few red chili ones in there as well (the New Mexico official state question is "Red or Green?"), and when we used to have school 5 days a week, the meat is omitted during Lent (because of all the Spanish kids who are Catholic and can't have meat then). All on a flour tortilla, kept warm in a roaster. Certain parents and teachers have a reputation for their burritos. When the high school English teacher makes them, they are in HIGH demand. She makes everything from scratch, right down to the tortillas.

Kids LOVE them. We aren't supposed to sell them until the kids have been to lunch in the cafeteria, but the high schoolers and teachers sneak down before the sell actually starts. We usually have at least 4 or 5 dozen burritos, sell them for $1.50 each. They aren't small, usually a 12 inch tortilla. Teachers will come buy 2 or 3 of them just for themselves.

Yeah, we heard we weren't supposed to do bake sales too, but ignored it. Not sure if it was our state or mandatory or what. But we do it anyway. They are our only fundraisers for preschool, elementary and middle school. Weren't they also supposed to do away with coke and vending machines? We still have ours! hehehe. Another fundraiser. The money we make off those go to the athletics dept (except the ones in the ag shop go to FFA).

It's nice to be in a small school where we can "bend" around some of the rules and still have some of the high up people on our side! LOL!

Submitted by Andrea on Sun, 01/27/2008 - 5:27pm.

Hey Everyone-

Ok, I'm salivating here Jenny! You know I love Mexican from living in San Antonio - we haven't really been able to find good reproductions of that here though. I know that was Tex-Mex. Yours may be different. I miss it. I miss getting the "slushee" margaritas from the machine with some really good chicken and black bean nachos. Ok, I'm reminiscing here. Which green or red chilies do people use? I have a pretty good selection of peppers at my Wegmans. And friend potatoes? I really need to take a trip back to SA.

Got a lot done today, but not much time for me. Wegmans and WalMart. DS11 skating, laundry, church, some cleaning, etc.

I am working 1/2 day tomorrow due to a dentist appointment, so that will help -

The chilies used here are

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 01/27/2008 - 8:15pm.

The chilies used here are Hatch or New Mexico chili. Around here, people buy them in late summer thru fall by the 25 or 50 pound sack at any grocery store (especially Walmart) and they will roast them free. Your eyes will burn and water just sitting in the parking lot. LOL! My MIL always gets a bunch, then takes them home and freezes it in little bagfuls. Then she will make stew, or fry it with some squash and cheese, put it on steaks. Green is usually fresh picked and milder, while red means it has had time to dry out and is usually hotter (but not always. Ask when you order which is hotter). Red ones are also decorative, you see them hanging in bunches on houses and are sold in roadside stands that are everywhere.

Here is an interesting artical I found about our chili:
http://abqstyle.com/albuquerque_living/
and if you are ever in Albuquerque, I highly suggest going here:
http://www.gardunosrestaurants.com/
(especially the one on Montgomery or San Mateo/Academy, they have the neatest strolling mariachi bands at night!)

New Mexican food is different than Tex-Mex. We ate at a place on the Riverwalk ('Ritas) and I wasn't that impressed. I like what we have here I guess. However, that place had some goooood Margaritas!! LOL!

I did some decluttering. Well, sorta. I could smell a dead mouse in my sewing closet, so I attacked it. Managed to throw away a whole lawn sized trash bag of stuff out (and TWO dead mices!!). Cool! Cooked dinner (peppered steak, rice, green beans) and cleaned the kitchen, 4 children are clean and 3 are in bed. Go me! LOL! Of course, Drew is the hard one to go to sleep. So the night won't be over for at least a couple more hours.

Hannah Montana

Submitted by jennye on Mon, 01/28/2008 - 1:22pm.

Andrea, Heidi: are you all going to see the Hannah Montana 3D movie that comes out this weekend? My girls would just DIE to see it, but of course, the nearest theater playing it is 2 hours away in Amarillo. And I'm not going to Amarillo for one stinkin' old movie (not Amarillo by Morning, not going to see Amarillo Sky, uh, can you think of any other country songs with Amarillo in it?)

I have been working my hiney off all morning, but not getting much accomplished that you can see. I decided to search for that dead mouse smell in my office. I moved the desk and all computer stuff (and gathered a whole box of papers, etc that need to be sorted, filed, done something with, but not thrown away). No luck. So I proceeded to take everything off my TWO completely full 5 shelf bookcases and move them. And sure enough, when I got the second one out of the way, I found a big ol' nest, some dead babies, and a hole chewed in the wall. Got the hole plugged up, everything back in place (well, almost). That will about do me for the day! LOL!

I agree Andrea! Ewww!! I wish I didn't have to deal with it either. I would rather castrate calves than deal with this mouse mess!!

Babysitting today. Wind is howling worse than yesterday (gusting to 60mph). I'm glad I didn't bother cleaning much yesterday, because underneath my doors and windows (which were nearly brand new when we moved in 5 years ago) is a think layer of red sand. Even the new doors in the garage-soon-to-be-office have let the cursed sand in (and that's why I won't go with hardwood floors in there). Just a yucky day.

Cavender is sleeping right now, so I should do something. I want to completely clean out the pantry today, I think. I'm working on the kitchen this week. DH and I are talking about doing most of the remodel ourselves. Still gutting it, new cabinets, etc. Oh my. LOL! But it would save SO much money!

Ok, time to go!

Baby took up all my time and arms to get anything accomplished (didn't help that his mama forgot to pack his pacifier and we had to live without). did manage to fix a pan of enchiladas before we went to BB practice, DH put them in the oven (then I fixed the rest when I got home). Did go to the grocery store and stocked up for the week.

Tomorrow DH and I need to go to Big-ger town and sign some papers, then we have a gift certificate to Applebees we may use (or, we may just go to Chili's because we like Chili's), and we plan on browsing around Lowe's at kitchens and some other home improvement things for a while. Oh, and need to drop off some things at the accountant's office (like, some money. LOL!). So, busy town day tomorrow.

I'm going to clean the floor of the girls closet today and possibly the pantry in the kitchen. I have a need to get those places CLEAN. I have 3 mouse traps set up around the house and none have been touched (not even by the sneaky mouse who usually licks the things clean without setting them off), so I'm hoping I have seen the last of those for a while.

Also a couple loads of laundry to be done.

Good morning! TGIF!! LOL!

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 9:33am.

Good morning! TGIF!! LOL! Which of course meant staying up late last night watching movies (The Game Plan and latest Pirates of the Carib. But we didn't finish that one, everyone was asleep). Then sleeping in this morning til 7:30!

Yesterday's TADA:
*3 loads of laundry (done, but not folded. Bad me)
*cleaned the baby exersaucer for child I babysit (it was nasty!!)
*DH and I got tons of stuff moved out of the garage. the weight bench set (which was big and heavy, even after we took it apart), some boxes of stuff for the barn like owners manuals to tractors, some junk of mine that I put in the storage shed, the treadmill (to the barn for now. Will come back up eventually). All that is left in the garage are the two chest freezers and a bit of trash and a car seat (needs to go in the pickup).

Today's PODA:
*fold those loads of laundry
*take a shower (first actually)
*I guess we are going to clean the walls in the garage? Or since the wind isn't blowing for a change, maybe pick up trash around the barns (hey, I can get the kids to do that!!)
*tonight we have basketball practice, then go to inlaws for FIL's birthday dinner. SIL coming from Texas for the weekend over there.

Time to take that shower!!
