Choose my sewing machine!

OK, I have $200 to spend at Target -- it's gotta be Target, though it can be online.

Wanna look at the selection and make a suggestion?

I can tell you right now, I am hard on things. I am not a gentle person when it comes to my possessions. Nor am I graceful. And at times I have a sketchy sense of my physical surroundings. Sturdiness counts.

What do I want to sew? Little things -- hems, pillow covers, curtains, aprons, maybe some simple kid sundresses or pinafores, placemats or runners for my table. I am not likely to sew anything fancy ever in my life, though I'd like to be able to sew heavier fabrics if possible.

What do you think?

Older Children

Older children do bring unique issues and concerns during adopting. There are several books, websites, and support groups specifically for the adoption of older children. There are also lots of professional to assist. One of my favorite books is "Parenting the Hurt Child" written about attachment disorder of older children. Hope this helps, feel free to contact me directly.

Adopted a 12 year old

Adopted a 12 year old boy as single parent 24 years ago. Brought into my parents home over a period of months. Visited during days, then overnights, brought a few things at a time-finally it was the most natural thing for him to stay and not leave again. Can't imagine doing it any other way for an older child. A long time is needed to become a child's Mom and Dad especially in the circumstances some of them were freed. Best of Luck

Older Kids Adoptions

we have five adopted children, we brought them into our home at 6, 4, 4, 5 and 3. They are now 13, 15, 15, 17, 18. Definately going through a lot of things with our oldest. On top of everything else there is the whole teenage thing. One of my hardest things is what is "normal" what is because of teenageritis, what is adoption related.
