More information about spelt
Hi.
I really would like to get some feedback and some different views from people who eat or use spelt. I've read several blogs that talk about spelt, so I am hoping I can be able to communicate with you all a little more.
I am looking for people who eat/use spelt in their cooking. What is the number one reason why you use spelt? (is it for wheat allergies, you love the nutty flavor, other reasons?) Do you mostly use it when making breads or how else do you use it?
Please help... I would appreciate it greatly!

Spelt
Hello, I have used spelt in place wheat flour to make anything from tortillas, bread, waffles, cakes etc. Because of a high amount of wheat used in our country, many people have developed allergies to it. Many of the children who have ADD, ADHD and Autism or other allergies are affected by the high glutten of wheat. Spelt can help replace the wheat. You can purchase it in white or whole. It is rather expensive, but worth it if it helps your child. I've had to experiment some with how much to use--but if using the white spelt, it's pretty much the same amount as wheat flour in the recipe. We have found spelt at the healthfood store and at some Amish stores.
I hope this helps.

Spelt
I was introduced to Spelt in my search for a whole grain bread that tastes good. Our local Publix store sells spelt bread in the freezer of the Greenwise department. It is the best bread I have found. It tastes like homemade bread, and my family (who would prefer to eat white bread if I gave them that option) likes it as well. The spelt bread that I get comes from Berlin Natural Bakery in the Amish country of Ohio. They have a great web site (berlinnaturalbakery.com) that has a page which discusses the history and benefits of spelt flour. The main things I like about spelt is the mild taste, lack of pesticides, and higher nutritional values compared to whole wheat flour. I plan on ordering some items from the Berlin Bakery website so that I can try more spelt products. They carry a variety of products such as breads (including sprouted breads), buns, noodles, cookies & crackers. They also sell the flour.
Spelt products tend to cost more than wheat products due to a variety of factors, but I think its benefits outweigh the extra cost. Read about it on the Berlin Bakery's website and give it a try. I think you will like it.
Spelt!
There are so many reasons to use spelt, but its pretty simple why I use it. It’s super healthy and tastes great! My son also has a minor wheat sensitivity and does great with spelt, but honestly using spelt has been a great benefit to our whole family. Spelt is full of protein, fiber, and many other nutrients. It’s also easier to digest than traditional grains, which leads to better digestive health and a strong immune system. Even if you don’t have a wheat sensitive family member I’d suggest spelt for its many health benefits and great taste.
