View from the Treadmill, September 2007

I didn't walk Saturday (9/1), Sunday (9/2) or Monday (9/3), though Sunday we walked A LOT downtown on the way to the ballgame. I got too much sun, even though we sat in the shade, and was very achey Monday. It didn't help that we were very worried about one of our closest friends Sunday night and barely slept. (Long story I won't go into except to say it looks like this friend will be fine given time and rest.)
So today I got on the treadmill for the first time in September and did 30 minutes at 2 mph! I felt pretty good! I'm still really tired during the day and I cannot believe how swollen my legs have been lately. I have upped my protein and water intake and am hoping it may yet resolve.
I've also discovered that I need a new pair of walking shoes.
Since late March, when I left rehab, I've gone from:
40 supervised minutes of aerobic exercise (recumbent stair and treadmill, 20 min each around 1.5 mph) 3 days a week
to
30 unsupervised minutes of treadmill at 2 mph 4 days a week.
Lessee...times 3 carry the 1...I was doing 120 minutes a week in rehab, and I'm back up to 120 minutes from 60 minutes a week when I first started getting serious about the treadmill at home. But I'm at a higher intensity now than I was at rehab, so from now on I'm making actual progress rather than maintaining.

This morning I got up and did 30 minutes at 2 mph on rising. That really seems to work for me, doing it on rising. I had a pretty productive day, for me; I'm thinking the whole "exercise gives you energy" thing may be coming true. But now, at 8:30, I'm beat.
The view from the treadmill today was of an overcast sky that would have been coastal if there had been any hint of a breeze, or if it had been a little cooler. Many birds in the sky, and Thom Hartmann on the radio.

Forgot to log. Continuing my pattern, I seem to be walking Tu-Wed-Th-Fri and then taking three days off. The weekends have been so busy that to walk is to burn energy I really need for the day--like getting ready for Josie's birthday, or an amazing amount of running around in the car today. I NEVER do that.
Thursday I made a mistake. I did 10 min at 2, 10 at 2.2 and 10 at 2. Too much. I've had PVCs since that have just started to calm down, and my fibro flared a little. Bad back pain that's kept me up. Friday I went back to 30 min at 2.
As for the view, the sky was nearly coastal both days, overcast with a thin band of the palest blue about 20 degrees above the horizon, as if a band of wind was sweeping the overcast away.
It's hotter than blazes this week, but it's been cool at night; hopefully tomorrow morning it'll have cooled down enough upstairs to walk comfortably.

30 minutes at 2 mph, and I tell ya, it was tough today. It's really hot, it's going to be 96 today and it's already hot upstairs.
The view was mostly of the inside of my eyelids. When I'm impatient and looking at the timer too much I just close my eyes and I'm not allowed to open them until a commercial break, or the end of a commercial break, whichever. Helps the time go faster.
I'm frustrated and depressed. I've gained nearly 20 lbs back from rehab, and I'm not eating any different and am really being good about my exercise, so I don't know what's going on.

That day, 9/11, I threw out my back! Big time! I was coming up the steps with my arms full of groceries and then whammmo! I saw stars! oy!
Today was my first day back on the treadmill, though I took walks with the girls through the neighborhood when I could finally put one foot in front of the other without wincing.
I did 23 minutes at 2 mph, just to ease back into it. Tomorrow I'll push it up past 25 and then back to 30.
I'm pretty sure that the weight gain is menopause. I've dropped some weight in just the last few days with the return of my stubborn period.

I did 25 minutes at 2 mph. The view is getting interesting again. The sky has clouds scudding across it, and the tops of the trees are waving.

I get behind on my logging so easily here, though it's all in my actual logbook in the kitchen.
9/26 and 9/27: Did 28 min @ 2 mph
9/28 and 9/29: Did 30 min @ 2 mph
I'm really going to work hard at walking EVERY day, not just the four days a week I was doing. It's time to step it up. I talked with my uncle the ER doc and part time jock the other day, and he was all, "EVERY DAY, LYNNER! That way if you miss one it's no big deal." And he's right, I know he is, so I'm pushing on to every day.
I'm just so ding dang tired. I think it might be something I'm eating. I've slipped back into letting myself eat wheat now and again and I don't think it will answer. And I'm very, very sore right now from fibro, especially around my implant, which is driving me nuts. I wish the fall and spring weather wasn't so unsettled, because they're my favorite seasons, but all I want to do in them is sleep.
The view is beginning to look very Oregonian: Gray, gray, gray. The big tree still has its green foliage but will be putting on its fall party colors soon.
