FDA & Kid's Cold Meds

Submitted by Jilsyt on Thu, 08/16/2007 - 9:01am.

You know, at first I read the headline thinking, "Oh No! What horrible finding did they get from a study of folks who use infant cold meds?" But then, I read the article, and it seems that everything they are saying is common sense protection of every child...sadly, I always thought that those "precautions" were things every one already did because they make sense and you don't want to have a toddler who is overdosed on anything. But, I realized that to have to announce it publicly as a list of best practices, this means that most people don't automatically do these things.

what comes to mind

There are probably a lot of people without health care who are trying to do whatever they can for their sick children. Not knowing what else to do, they turn to OTC medications and use them incorrectly, not having any advice on what is effective and safe.

If you're in this position, folks, ask the pharmacist. They don't charge for advice, and they can at least steer you away from dangerous stuff. Pharmacists are invaluable, and bless them for the help they give so many people who have no other medical care.
