Or, very little play, anyway.
Since I started work in July I've not had a lot of down time. I've got a lot of unread email, unswept floors, unvacuumed carpets, and a neglected garden.
But I'm enjoying my job, I like my boss, and I love my paycheck.
I'm struggling for the first time with how to juggle work, home, and parenthood. What's got to give, what I can handle, I'm still learning.
I have learned, for instance, that with a job that ends at 3:00 I can still have a lovely evening at home with my DD, make dinner, and get one or two things done that need to be taken care of. But if you throw in just ONE MORE THING, like, say, swim lessons at 4:15 pm, my evening goes to you-know-where.
We're all adjusting fairly well, so far. DD is almost seven and starting first grade in three weeks (ACK! When did THIS happen?). If she were younger, I honestly don't think I could do this. For us, me going back to work when the kid starts school looks like it's going to be a good thing. It's what my mom did when my younger brother started school (she became an AVON lady). My job allows me to be home when my kid is home, which is what I want.
This just doesn't leave much time for blogging, surfing, sifting through email, or working on the member directory for my church like I said I would.
DH took DD out this evening to shop for my birthday present and I had a whole hour and a half of empty house and nothing I HAD to do. So, here I sat, reading and posting 'til they came home. Now DD's in bed and I'm blogging. Dunno how often I'll be posting in the near future, but I love that TNH is here when I do carve out a bit of time. I love that there are new members, I love that Lynn's always fiddling with the site, adding new features (note my svelte avatar).
Taking care of my home and family are still just as important to me now as they were before I started work. I still consider myself a homemaker first and foremost. I just happen to be a homemaker with a part-time job. And I still consider all ya'll my e-friends.
Smooches!
