The UPS guy arrived around 10:30, I started reading around noon, and I finished around 6:45. I'm a fast reader.

The verdict: Pretty good, certainly satisfying. I'm not going to publish spoilers and I ask that you not, either, but if you've read it feel free to chime in here with *your* verdicts!

Yes, satisfying

I found it a very enjoyable read, and I was pretty excited as I read though many of the adventures Harry and crew have.

I've been reading reviews lately, and here are my non-specific thoughts:

True, Rowling is not a prose stylist by any stretch, but her characters and her sense of humor are great. Will her books stand up to Narnia and the Ring trilogy? Perhaps not -- those books seem to take place in a world outside of time, whereas I think the Potter books are really about the here and now. The Salon review I read said it well -- her books are not the stuff dreams are made of, they are the stuff life is made of, and that's what makes them great in their own way. I think they have a battle of good and evil, but they seem much more about the battle of just growing up and trying to suss out what's good and what's evil.

I think that's what in the end makes Harry Potter children's lit, even if it's children's lit that adults can read and love too.

UPS messed up and failed to deliver my pre-ordered copy yesterday. So I tottled off to Walmart and purchased a 2nd copy. I was working a night shift last night - the quietest in history - and read most of HPATDH overnight. Today, I alternated between napping and reading, and I just finished the book now.

Well done, JK Rowling. Well done, indeed! I don't even mind having to purchase the 2nd copy .. it was totally worth it!

Very satisfying indeed! I bought a copy at the Children's Place bookstore but later that day stopped by my local library branch and was surprised to learn that a copy was waiting for me there! I was #476 on the waiting list... I read it in two days and might go back and read it again soon, it was so good. Thank you for the no-spoilers note; I have seen spoilers posted in YouTube comments, which strikes me as dirty pool, no warning for the reader.

My thoughts:

"Yeah, O-Kay. I can live with this."

We've had a busy week-end and I didn't even open ours until yesterday afternoon, but once started I pretty much didn't put it down until I finished (somewhere just after midnight.)

I'll probably read it again at some point...just to catch any details I missed, but for now:

...I can live with this.

I Liked It. But...

I wasn't as satisfied as some, not with the story, but with the afterward. I would have liked more there.

Many of my predictions were wrong, but that's always fun. I love the "I didn't expect THAT!" feeling.

I totally agree with Jo. I

I totally agree with Jo. I just want more HP! More of his parents, more of what happens to the survivors later in their lives. I just want more.

It did take me a few days to read it. We were on vacation, and I couldn't spend the whole time just reading, could I?
