Kitchen Sink Blog...

Let's see, I've been wallowing around in Dental Hell for what feels like months, painting and doing home improvements like mad before the upcoming visits by my mother and my MIL & FIL in July, and not doing much of anything online, and just now, I've finally got something to blog about--about three separate blogs' worth, but I'm going to sum up:

Had the first part of a root canal today. Ack. Have never had any dental work done before besides routine cleaning until I cracked the #18 molar several weeks ago. My nerves are shattered. Many, many pricks with needles which was giving me no little amount of distress, but at least this Dentist was more gentle with them than the last one (I'm on my second Dentist with this tooth). Have to go back two or three more times before we're done with it, but I'm feeling much better now.

I've been brewing up stuff in the kitchen again! Celebrated Summer Solstice today by brewing two batches of mead. One according to a Polish recipe, and another mostly according to "A Mead Recipe from 1695"

Last year's batch of mead didn't work. I made many mistakes which I am not repeating this year, and have high hopes for these two batches.

The Hard Cider I made from some of last fall's apple harvest did turn out well. It tastes like a crisp, somewhat dry, sparkling white wine. DH says it tastes a trifle vinegary, but he can live with it. I usually let things ferment too long, hence the vinegar overtones. Working on that.

As I mentioned before, home improvement: painted the living room (Miller's Botany Beige), entryway (ditto), kitchen (Miller's Cut Hay), and dining room and stairwell (Velspar's Champagne Orange on most surfaces, with Tangerine Cream on two short walls). FINALLY! Have wanted to do this since we moved in three years ago. Also, the half-wall saga is nearing its bitter end--all's DH's gotta do is screw a slab of wood on the top of it and we're done, folks! Only took two years. Next big remodel thing will either be the floors or the bathrooms, dunno which yet. Also, kitchen nook is assembled and in the kitchen. I love it.

And finally, I've got a job! The one I alluded to here, in fact.

I'll be the new Office Assistant at the Montessori school that DD just graduated from last week. It's minutes from my house, minutes away from the school she'll be going to next year for 1st grade, and she and I have the same hours, when she's at school, I'm at work, when she's home, I'm home, I'm happy as a little clam.

It's part time, a little less than 1/2 time to start and when enrollment reaches target I'll work up to 3/4 time we hope. In addition to the officeorial type work I'll be dabbling in a little marketing and fundraising support, and hopefully, some training in bookkeeping.

We're all happy as clams about it. I got a bottle of bubbly in honor of the event (we'll pop the cork tomorrow night) and I want to celebrate by spending a real weekend at the beach this summer, not just a day trip.

Sigh. All that time I spent stressing about everything...what a waste! It's all unfolding beautifully...at least career wise. Tooth wise I'm a ways to go before I achieve harmonious convergence. Working on that!

Many Blessings, m'dearies!

congratulations on the new job, that's fantastic news. And, of course, for the possible end to the half-wall saga!

Ewwww, bad luck on the dental work. Still, better out than in, or something!

Great news about the job, Anhata!

Commiserations on the root canal - I am in the middle of the same treatment myself, and wishing I had just told him to take it out and be done with it Sad

Enjoy the bubbly and the beach!

Congrats Anhata! Hope that job is exactly what you expected with only pleasant surprises. It sounds like it would be a very good fit for you.

and may you find a dentist who really knows his anaesthetics!! Don't forget to check what pain meds you can take afterwards, and take them BEFORE the anaesthetic wears off completely (from someone who's had 16 teeth removed, of which 4 were wisdom teeth and almost all had LONG roots!).

Kerri.
