Potty training question

DD3 has been potty trained for about 9 months now, but she's going through a long phase of having slightly damp knickers almost every time she goes for a pee, unless I promt her to go. I can think of several likely explanations - there have been a lot of changes in her life recently, and there are more to come; she gets very involved in whatever she's doing and can get completely lost in an activity. However, it's very frustrating for me, as well as for her, and if anyone has any useful thoughts about causes or cures I'd be awful grateful.

Well, no cures, but just

Well, no cures, but just some reassurance that it's normal. Especially the getting involved in something else and forgetting to go in time. Which happened just last night to my ds4 1/2 when we were playing at a friends house. It happens. I just reminded him that we need to listen to our body and when it says "I need to PEE!!" that we need to stop playing and go pee.

Though I have to admit, peeing for boys may be more fun that peeing for girls. Since we are so far out in the country, my husband will sometimes just go off the front porch rather than walk all the way to the back of the house. Now my son does it too. It's fun for him. "Can I pee off the porch like Daddy"? Well, he did it the other day without asking, and we had company over. Luckily, they are country like us too and laughed. But what did I do? Grabbed the camera and got pictures of his backside, of course! LOL! I see a new scrapbook page coming on. One to get out for girlfriends someday...

Zillah, this is a normal stage. The only real solution to it is to stay on top of it, but in time she'll learn to listen to her body.

Thanks for the reassurance, guys. I thought it was probably normal, but you know when things start to become a worry cycle? I'll just keep going with it, and keep the washing machine going Laughing out loud

Jenny, if DH was to do that here he'd probably be spotted by a legion of tourists on the Edinburgh Castle ramparts - might make their holiday!

Relax. Every kid that I've potty trained has been different, they all started at different times, all found different reasons to motivate them to go where *we* want them to go.

My son (now 10) day trained first, and it took him a few more *years* to get into night training. My 3 year old has been wearing panties to bed and waking dry for 10 months. The whole time she needed/wanted pullups during the day. Then all of a sudden she stopped wanting the pullups, she just started choosing panties in the morning and using the potty chair.

We have the same situation with DD4. Although since she already sees a pediatric urologist for a different issue, I will discuss that with him next month, in case it is something physical. DD8 was so done with diapers by 3, but DD4 is just a different kid.

We have 2 policies
1. There are certain times when you sit on the potty, no matter what. (Leaving the house, for example.)
2. Two pairs of underwear a day, then pull-ups.

Yes, I have often said that pull-ups are the devil, but I simply can't keep up with the laundry generated otherwise. (She refuses to wear the pants she had on *over* the slightly damp underwear, even if they are bone dry.) I've explained to her that the reason for the 2-pairs-a-day rule is laundry -- I don't want it to seem like a punishment, just a basic consequence. We only have so much underwear.

It's frustrating for sure, especially after "we" did such a "good job" with DD8. Sticking out tongue
