One year ago today, Lynn died.
Literally.
Oh, she was brought back within about 15 seconds, but she was a goner
there for a few seconds. Dying means different things to different people, and I am sure that it is the ultimate subjective experience, but I want to take a moment and pass along a couple of things I have noticed, as the Publisher of this site (and Lynn's hubby):
Since Lynn’s death and subsequent zapping, she has:
Stabilized her health,
Graduated from a cardiac rehab program,
Lost a ton of weight,
Almost taught Louisa how to read,
Instilled in Josie the love of reading,
Guided a yard remodel with the assistance and hard work of Leonard from City Repair, and his valiant and talented crew.
The changes have been amazing, and unexpected.
The underlying condition persists, and will for many, many more years, but for the first time since 2002, I no longer feel as tho the latest “I love you” will be the last uttered between us. I no longer plan for a future without her, but rather a future WITH her. She exercises more than I do at this point, and through that, and a clean diet, she is losing weight, feels better, and looks a lot more vibrant.
Our children may have been scarred by the events of a year ago. This has certainly shaped their outlook on the world. But with each passing day, and this anniversary of sorts, it strengthens their belief that Mommy will be there when they need her. Each passing day adds just another drop of water under the boat of belief. Once we have enough, we get to teach them some sailing skillz.
AS for me…well…I am the luckiest guy on earth. See, my birthday is on the 17th, and for my birthday last year I was given the gift of my best
friend, my lover, my confidant. 368 days ago, she accepted into her chest a safety net device. This device is little used, but it is there. Waiting for the moment we hope will not come again for a very, very long time.
The condition that brought her to this precipice was a fluke. Genetics,
environment, lifestyle, sleeping patterns, all or none could be the cause. No one is certain. What *is* certain is that we have a very limited time on this Earth. Take a few minutes and hug those you love, and tell then NOW what they mean to you...While everyone is around to enjoy it.
