Dancing Live-Blog 5/7/07

One of my favorite TV nights: Dancing with the Stars and Heroes! Except I have to miss the last half hour of the former. grr. Here we go--follow me after the jump and reload throughout the night for the live blog.

Ian once again proves that he is competent but not compelling. I felt badly for him because he obviously worked really hard for this week, and he danced well, but he doesn't have "it," though Bruno and Len's 7s were a little harsh; it was an 8 performance. Cheryl will not three-peat. (Josie voted for Ian.)

Joey is out of the gate with a "classic waltz"--straight up, no frills. He's giving Len what he wants, right down to pinning a number on his back just as the competition ballroom dancers do. I thought it was a 9 straight across but Bruno dinged him for no razzle. Even though Apolo is adorable, Joey is my favorite.

Once again, Billy Ray is inexplicably endearing and he still can't dance worth a dang. Carrie Ann is right, he has improved a lot, but Bruno is also right: "Foxtrot of the Temple of Doom" indeed. Billy Ray really seemed wounded by Bruno's pronouncement that his routine was "crap." I'm hoping for his sake this is his last week. Even the Hannah Montana fans can't keep him there forever. Karina looks cute in the cowboy hat, though. I'll miss Billy Ray's second dance, which is too bad because at this rate he might just jump the judge's table and give Bruno a pounding. (Josie voted for Billy Ray.)

Muhammad Ali in the house! Aw, I'm gonna cry! Laila is such a smooth dancer. I hope her parents are proud, she's very good, and it was a sweet moment when she blew a kiss to her dad. Memo to costumers: Don't put Laila in full-length gloves. She has great arms and they don't set them off. Straight 9s. (LouLou voted for Laila.)

Apolo and Julianne are so fun to watch. They're sparkly and bubbly and I want to put them on a shelf and take them out from time to time and wind them up and watch them go. I wouldn't have chosen "Jessie's Girl" for a tango, but they're pulling it off. Sweet footwork, Apolo! That was sharp as a knife. Best performance of the night so far. Len is SO high, he's completely wrong--except he's not, he's right, it was too fast for a tango, but Julianne didn't get to pick the music or the tempo. She did the best she could as choreographer with what they were given. Weird with the score mix-up.

I have to say that Tom Bergeron is the perfect host for this. We watch America's Funniest Videos in part because it's safe to watch with the kids, but also because Bergeron makes it really enjoyable. He's fast on his feet, charming and really good with live TV; speaking as a former broadcaster, let me tell you, it takes a certain kind of person to go live like this.

Josie now tells me she wants to get in on the live-blogging, so I'll put Jo's comments in green with the occasional LouLou comment in pink.

It's a beautiful beginning for Ian and Cheryl. He's loosening up a little. It's a wonderful ending. Mama doesn't agree. Ian is doomed. He and Billy Ray are the bottom two. Len's comments are right on.

Is it Jimmy Kimmel tonight? No, honey, that's tomorrow. Awwww.

...aaaand, it's Heroes. Bye!
