The Annual Cinco de Mayo Post, 2007 (Updated)

I am 46 years old today. I'm a bit melancholy, not because of turning a year older--consider the alternative, which I know intimately--but because it marks the beginnings of all my troubles last year. Anniversaries like that are always a little anxiety-inducing, no matter how illogical that may be. I'm expecting next weekend (my death anniversary--Mother's Day, lovely) I'll be a bit of a basket case. And my therapist is in France for the month, of all months. I'm trying to frame it internally in terms of rebirth and mothering--I died and came back on Mother's Day because I wasn't done raising my girls--but it's still a bit uphill.
We're planning on a dim sum brunch and that's about it. Josie has a cold and we have a ton of chores to do. The good news is, my insomnia seems to be subsiding a bit. I've started taking melatonin, just last night; we'll see if it helps. The biggest help so far has been a CD my therapist gave me. I don't have an iPod, so we've been playing it on the DVD player through the TV and putting the TV on sleep so it turns itself off. It's helped, and John says it's even helped him sleep better.
Update: Dim sum brunch accomplished. If you're in PDX, Wong's King is dim sum paradise. And then! John and the kids took me downtown and bought me a red iPod! And then! We went to free comic book day and got comix! wowser! Seriously, it's a great birthday. Comix and small, coveted, red electronix!

My god I am a geek.
I just devoured the first two Buffy "Season Eight" comics and my god!! Such Buffy goodness my head is going to pop!!! If you are a Buffy fan but not a comics fan, get over your prejudice, haul yourself over to the nearest comic book shop and buy the first three issues. I only got two because they're sold out of the third for now.

I was just rolling
I was just rolling enchiladas for dinner tonight and thought, Hey, today is Lynn's birthday!!
So, Happy Birthday, Lynn!!! I've prepared a great meal in your honor (chicken enchiladas, spanish rice, and a great dip to go with some tortilla chips). And since I know you won't have any, I'll take care of your share of the Margaritas as well!
Anything I can do to help out a friend, after all!
Enjoy Buffy!
Happy Birthday!
Yes, I was at my local Whole Foods picking up fruit for a party tomorrow, and when I observed the many Cinco de Mayo signs in the deli case I thought, "Oh, right, Lynn's birthday!"
What a way to remember.
Congrats on the iPod. I don't use mine often, but I do love it, and I often find new ways to use it. (Gotta get me one of those armbands for when I'm cleaning around the house.)
Hope the chores were dispatched with and you are putting your feet up!

Happy Birthday Lynn!
Sounds like it was a lovely day! Chinese food and a red ipod! Sounds perfect to me
Best Wishes Lynn!
Thinking of you on your birthday Lynn - sounds like a very nice one indeed!
Andrea
happy belated birthday!
And now you have an iPod!
If you are a comics fan
You might want to try Joss Whedon's Amazing X-Men -- he wrote the Buffy series, and has done a fabulous job with the X-Men. There's one trade out and I think about 10 issues after that to date.
(I am a big comic geek)
Belated Happy Birthday
Glad it came up roses for you, Lynn
Zillah
thank you!
Save me some margarita mix, then! I love it even without the tequila.

It was self defense on my family's part
I am ALWAYS listening to audio books, and listen to the Patrick Tull readings of Patrick O'Brian daily. Probably will the rest of my life, considering there are 21 books-worth of 'em.
So having an iPod means the rest of the family doesn't have to listen along with me, though why anyone would object to those ripping yarns read with consummate skill I don't know!

you ARE new around here. ;)
Joss Whedon owns the mortgage on my soul. I've got yer X-Men (in compilation, mind, and I'll follow up with Runaways when they go to compilation), I've got yer Firefly DVD set, I've got yer Firefly/Serenity bridge comics, I've got yer Serenity sticker on my laptop (named "Serenity"), I've got yer ticket stub from the "Serenity" preview 5/25/05, I've got yer burgeoning collection of Angel and Buffy seasons on DVD.
Sad, really.
Oh no, it's not! I love that man.

Browncoats, Browncoats Everywhere!
But do you have the Joss Wheedon tattoo? *grin*
Always good to find another fan
I knew I liked you.
Good idea
I tried reading those books (a DH favorite) while I had vicious morning sickness with DD3.99. I couldn't read them for the terrible nausea, and now I literally feel nauseated whenever I think about reading them. Maybe we'll try the audiobooks for summer car travel.

...I've got...
all seven seasons of Buffy on DVD...(haven't started on Angel yet) but we watch Serenity around here at least twice a month! I can't match Lynn's devotee status...but we're not far behind!
Lenora
PS: Lynn! Hope your birthday was wonderful and that the year to come brings you all the wonderful things you deserve!

you forgot to mention the tshirts
gotta remember the tshirts.
"Holy Mother of God and all her wacky nephews!"
And, I still lust after your Jayne Cobb shirt.
I've got a Serenity key chain and a spiral paper parasol, a la Kaylee, that counts too, don't it? (Plus, need I mention, the Firefly DVD set and Serenity?) Had to chime in and list my name under the Browncoat banner.
