Just wondering what your kids' summer plans are. Are you planning a family vacation or reunion? Camp?
DS will take acting camp again and DD will take swim lessons again. No other concrete plans here.

Well, first off, the BIGGESTWell, first off, the BIGGEST thing this summer is Harry Potter! New movie (#5) on July 13th and new book (#7, and last one) on July 21st. LOL! We have our calendars marked for both! My kids will probably do swim lessons (town every weekday for 2 weeks) and Vacation Bible School at our church (town every week night for one week). As a family, we are planning a trip in the new camper, probably to San Antonio and South Padre Island. We will see the Alamo, river walk, Lone Star brewery, and what everelse is down there (not Six Flags, but possibly Sea World?). Jamie Lea, got ideas? As for reunions, our two yearly family ones have been combined to one. It's Labor Day. But we will probably go camping a couple times in the mountains and possibly the lake (Ft. Sumner Lake and Ute are about 1 1/2 hours away, and Conchas Dam is about 2 or so). DH's school reunion is this year. It's the whole community/school reunion, they have it every 5 years. See, when only 7 graduate in your class, it's kinda silly to have a reunion of just your class. So, it's the entire school alumni, going back to whoever is still alive. We are planning a dance at the firestation one night, and lots of food. Um, what else. One kid will have a birthday this summer. And we will also be busy with 4-H projects (baking, sewing, gardening, chickens. Dairy heifers have been put on hold til next year). I think that's about it, but you never know! ![]() I was hoping for acting camp for JoBut financially it's just not going to work. I think we'll be spending a lot of time at Laurelhurst Park at the wading pond taking advantage of the activities there. Lynn Siprelle, Editor We do historical re-enactmentSo with any luck, much of the summer will be spent in the 13th century. Lots of camping, lots of outdoor fun. I'm trying to figure out the work schedule so the girls and I can spend the majority of good daylight time at the beach or working outside and then I can hit the computer really late. I might have to write from 4 am till they wake at 7 and then do a few more hours at the tail end of the day. We're going to spend a lot of time in Lake Champlain. I want to visit one of the local museums/historical attractions each week -- we're not far from teh Alanzo Wilder homestead, so we'll do that -- Also, Tim has decided to start a scrap metal business. I think this might be a whole family endeavor as the girls learn what goes into keeping this household running. Yes, we're SCAThe SCA is a great way to spend family time, although we're careful not to let it 'take over' our lives. Also, we're close to Lake Champlain, and they do battle of Plattsburgh every year -- we're going to dress for that this year for the first time ever. The summerAll a bit up in the air as we don't know where we'll be living and we don't have much in the way of spare cash. However DFIL (bless him) has invited us to share his holiday in Cornwall with his two teenage children again this year. It'll be a bit of a treck to get there from Scotland, but well worth it. We also have a national Quaker gathering up here in Scotland, so we'll probably go to that, possibly camping. Zillah ![]() Whooo! Pottermania! And that would be Harry, nothing against Beatrix. Yes, who can think of anything else when both a book and a movie are coming soon? Well, I am hoping to send DD to Concordia language villages, but I can't pay for it for at least another 2 weeks, so we'll see if we get a spot. My dad is coming for a short visit in June, then in early July we'll spend a week in Michigan. In late August we'll have a 10-day vacation also known as the State Fair! (We live practically in the State Fair so we don't try to accomplish much during those days.) I'm also debating getting a season pass for a water park . . . we'll see. ![]() If Summer Ever Gets HereWe always go camping for a 10 day family reunion/fun fest the first week in July with DH's family. My brother is getting married July 21st, so there will be all the hoopla for that, which morphs into a family reunion for my side the last weekend of July. DD is going to a 2 night/3 day horseback riding girlscout camp. The boys will both be working, and with any luck, staying out of trouble. I can't wait... Last day of school here is June 13th. Oooo, horseback riding campOooo, horseback riding camp sounds like so much fun!!! I wanna go!! We are out three weeks from today. I'm looking forward to it! ![]() As usual, we are on a muchAs usual, we are on a much later schedule than everyone else. Our summer starts on June 22nd, which is the last day of school for most kids and teachers around here. Of course, we get all those breaks during the year, so it's a tradeoff! I am trying to keep this summer simple for us. I am only working 3 days as opposed to 10 or 20, which will help a lot! Both kids do the Summer Rec program put on by our village, which is free! It goes from 9:00 to 12:00 through the end of July M-F. Gotta love it. DS10 will do a week long baseball camp, mornings only. DD will do a onth long soccer league - 2 nights a week. We are going on a family vacation to the Adirondacks for one week in August - have never been there so should be fun. We are renting a house on Fourth Lake. That's about it. WE had talked about getting a pop-up camper to get into camping before the kids get too old. Not sure we will do that now - still mulling it over. Andrea 20th July here!Of course DS is homeschooled so the school year doesn't usually affect us - this year though, I am working in a school. My summer break starts on 20th July! Plans so far include a week long holiday somewhere in England with my parents, DS and the dog. We can go anywhere in England or Wales really and I can't decide where to go. A current contender is Norfolk just because the scenery looks nice on a tv programme I've been watching (Kingdom, for those who are in the UK). I'd rather like to go somewhere I haven't been before, and it needs to be somewhere either countryside or coast, as we enjoy taking the dog for long walks. I would also like to get away for five days or so to Glastonbury, just DS and myself. I have been wanting to do this for a couple of years, and this year I may just be able to afford it, fingers crossed. Other plans for this summer? I would like to have a summer party, just for the heck of it. Family, a few of my friends and DS'. I have a tiny little house, but as long as the weather is reasonable and we can also use the garden I think I can manage 30 people or so. I am also hoping to take DS to see Phantom of the Opera - that will be his birthday present in July, if I can get tickets. We'd also like to see Spamalot, so that's another possibility. Other than that, we plan to just chill out in the garden Post new comment |
