A drive by posting

I'm currently in thrall to some deadlines and getting the garden cleared out, but wanted to share this link. I thought it was a really good look at whether Organic or Conventional Produce is better for you. It spoke directly to some of the stuff I've been hearing around here, (specifically that organic farming is inefficient) and I thought maybe you all have heard this too.

I really enjoyed this post

I really enjoyed this post and struggle with many of these same problems. I am a rancher in WY and it is nearly impossible to find organic produce that has not traveled thousands of miles. We tried to make part of our ranch organic, but had the same problem as the Hatfields. The regulations are so onerous that it is hard for anyone running on public land to meet.

This article really made me think.

I hear the same thing here

I hear the same thing here (NY) constantly -- that the regulations to become organic are so stringent and difficult that even farmers who have employed nothing but organic techniques for years can't comply. You have to wonder what the point of these regulations are!

more important than buying "certified organic"

...is knowing your farmer. If you know and trust your farmer (or your farmer's wholesaler), it doesn't matter if s/he's certified.
