The Alpha Mom: Invitation to a Poem

Ok, inspired by discussion here, the very first, very rough draft of a poem. Two disclaimers: I am generally not much of a poet!!!! and also, I don't know the entire Greek alphabet.

I'm very open to suggestions and thoughts. Let's see if we can build this up into something good.

The Alpha Mom

I am the Alpha Mom: From the first moment, I was there, and I loved you.

I am the Alpha Mom: As the dawn creeps over the sky, my thoughts are of you.

I am the Alpha Mom: I lead and am strong, so some day you may lead and be strong.

I am the Beta Mom: Safe to try ideas upon, a safety net to rely on.

I am the Beta Mom: Who will step back when I need to so that you can shine and try your wings.

I am the Delta Mom: Change comes to us all, and I will be there to help you navigate the world’s swirling waters.

I am the Delta Mom: Change begins with your diapers and never ends.

I am the Gamma Mom: For I can see the starlight trapped in your eyes, the supernova of your smile.

I am the Sigma Mom: I am the one who knows full well the price of all the clothes and toys and summer camps yet never tallies up, realizing that the sum will never balance out the value of your joy.

I am the Omega Mom: I am there at the end: the end of the infancy, the end of the toddler hood, the end of preschool and teenage year. I am there at the end of a million scraped knees and shattered dreams and good ideas gone bad to pick you up and keep you going.

I am the Omega Mom: Nonsense stops with me, whether over exuberant silliness generated from within the circle of our love or danger from without it.

I am the Omega Mom: At the end of the day, I am the last face you see, kissing you good night.
