![]() For some reason, there hasFor some reason, there has to be a reply for this to show up so here it is! I know it's usually homeI know it's usually home blessing day. But I have to go to town and get chicken feed (and the feed store is giving away 3 chicks with every bag purchased!!). I also want to try to get into the hair place and fix up my roots, go to the library, and grocery store. Waiting for DH to come home from checking some wheat so he can either stay here with Drew or go with me (I vote for the latter. Seems like we never see each other any more and I hate going to the grocery store by myself. I tend to talk to myself and I can pull that off better with at least the baby in the cart). Andrea, what are your summer plans? I know we will probably go camping for Labor Day. In July, DH wants to go up to the 4-corners area and see rocks and pueblos and stuff. Maybe go to Durango. Will be taking the camper. But can only go after he gets hay planted. This year we took on some more land, so we are farming 1,500 acres. Yikes! ![]() Hey all - Listening to kidsHey all - Listening to kids fight here. Fun. I have so much I need to do but it's hard with the whining, fighting. Jenny, we are considering going to the Adirondacks for one week and staying on a lake. We have never been there, but it is only 3 to 4 hours from our house, so we could drive. I'm looking forward to it, but need to find a place to stay at! Got a few things done so far and am off to fold clothes now - If you'd like to let me knowIf you'd like to let me know what lakes you're considering, I can give you the insider scoop. I used to write the recreation guide for the local paper three years running and know most places up here really well. Also: black fly season is kind of unpleasant (as in unless you enjoy massive bugbites!) so I'd opt out of late June/early July. ![]() Hey CB - That'd be awesome!Hey CB - Sure Andrea: I'm at cbpottsSure Andrea: I'm at cbpotts (at) gmail.com Send me your email, and we can pow-wow. I will say the water park in Old Forge is wonderful, but not so great if your kids are very, very little and get tired easily as it is a LOT of walking and unless you live to schlepp 45 pound toddlers everywhere it will get old fast. I'm not sure where you're coming from (geography wise) (I know you probably told me, my brain is tofu right this minute, it has been the day from hell) but if you'd care to tell me where you're coming from I can also try to work in good things to see along the way. The Bright SideWell, under my kitchen sink is decluttered. The water heater closet where I keep vacuums, brooms, etc., is decluttered. All because of the plumbing work. The other bathroom is totally decluttered. There is nothing but a mirror and a tile floor! This week should bring some more work on that. So, I guess there's positives to all this. HomeHair is colored, groceries are put away, library books returned, Subway for lunch and eaten in the truck. And bought 50lbs of chicken feed and 7 chickens. Don't ask me what kind I got. I just told the guy they are for 4-H and eggs, just throw some in a box. I did get an interesting one that grows feathers on it's legs, too. Now, to build that coop! LOL! Tonight, dinner at a friends house because it's school board meeting night. Our DHs will be gone, whoohoo! Andrea, that sounds nice! Sounds like you should avoid black fly season. Ugh! LOL! Lois, how nice it's all decluttered now! ![]() yay chickens!Several breeds have feathered legs. Are they chicks or full-grown girls? Did you get sexed or straight run? If the latter you may be having chicken soup in a few weeks--roosters. Once they've gotten their feathers, post a picture and I'll tell you what you've got. Lynn Siprelle, Editor I went to the local feedI went to the local feed store, chatted with the guy. They are week old chicks, he tried to get the females but it was hard to tell them apart. I just got what they had in stock, didn't want to order any. No problem if there are a couple of roosters in there, and I can always go get more chicks if needed. They are local chicks, from a local hatchery (which friends of mine run anyway, so I could just go straight there if I wanted to). It's address is: http://www.privetthatchery.com I think he said 5 are gray barred leghorn, one a brown barred leghorn. And not sure about the one with feathers on the legs. I may call in the morning and ask Ed (the owner of the feed store). As for table scraps, well, they go to my baby (no, not Drew. My 9 month old 80 pound purebred German Shephard). For housing, they are in my garage right now in a couple of cardboard boxes. But I'm going to hire a junior high kid to come over Friday (since we have all Fridays off) and clean out an old shed that used to be a chicken house of some sort. like 50 years ago. Before the previous owners started using it to store all their crap like old appliances and such and left it all here for me to deal with. ![]() ah wellIf you don't use chemicals on your grass, throw some grass clippings and weeds in there for them, garden thinnings, and unless your dog eats melon and squash seeds they like those kinds of things--vegetable trimmings dogs don't care for, wilted lettuce, etc--give them those kinds of "scraps." eh, I shouldn't tell you what to do. Lynn Siprelle, Editor I'm not going to have themI'm not going to have them near the house (I do use chemicals on the yard, BTW. Ortho Bug-B-Gone and Weed-B-Gone are wonder drugs!). I'm putting them near the corrals by the horses and cattle pens. I'm converting a room off a barn for their coop, and building a fence around it for them to come outside. I hesitate to leave them outside free because of my puppy and my cats. And coyotes. And screech owls. And hawks. But they will have plenty of bugs and other critters they can snack on. And rattlesnacks (I hear chickens are great at killing snakes!). Maybe when the puppy grows up a little and decides chickens are ok I can turn them loose a little bit. I'm sure I'll be around asking for your advice though! Our 4-H group is really small, like, 10 people, and I'm having a hard time getting the leader to step up and lead (she expects everyone to know what they are doing, even though I have told her countless times that I am clueless. It took two years for her to get us signed up in the program, and that's only because I got so frustrated with her, I went down to the county extension office and did it myself. But I can't complain to them about her because her mother works there! LOL!). But while we are talking about 4-H, I'll share with you all DD9 is doing: vegetable gardening, dairy heifers, poultry, sewing I, baking I, photography, scrapbooking. At the fair if you win sweepstakes (have a lot of points because of all the great different projects you have done), you get an extra $100. And if it is your first year in 4-H, you get an extra $250! Good Morning! Well,Good Morning! Well, yesterday went well; playdate, vet, dentist, mall. Jenny-maybe the chickens can have a condo!? Y'know a bunch of cardboard boxes connected by cut outs. LOL Good luck with them. TADA PODA Only 7 weeks of school left here...wow. It really flies by now at the end of the year. Dd turns 6 on the 23rd and will get a bike for her bday from us. This is the summer of no training wheels,we hope! Heidi ![]() I almost beat you Heidi!!I almost beat you Heidi!! You have quite the busy day in front of you. Looking forward to hearing updates on the chickens Jenny. CB, I will email, thanks a million. Nothing like having your own personal travel planner! We have a big day too: dw emptied I'm off! another windy day. At leastanother windy day. At least the high will be near 80 and I can open some windows on the east and south sides of the house. Heidi, you crack me up! And it wouldn't be such a bad idea but the rain and wind would probably make a mess of cardboard boxes. But maybe inside the barn I'm going to use... Today is the day I retake my house! The war is on!! Most important of all, I'm going to turn the computer OFF!!! LOL! chickensAll I know about chickens is that they eat scorpions. I don't know about rattlesnakes. PODA: Good Morning! TADA morningGood Morning! TADA PODA Becky, Jackie, others: are you lurking? Hope all is well with you guys.. Have a good day! Heidi ![]() Morning Everyone- I got aMorning Everyone- I got a lot done yesterday, including taxes and furniture for my parents. The museum was great -they have a butterfly garden! So far I've exercised and emptied dw. Beds are made. I'd like to finish washing the windows and also wash and vac the van. See ya! ![]() I'm HereJust can't post much flying progress. The weather is so lousy I could cry. When I woke up this morning it was 17 degrees. There is a winter storm watch for tomorrow with over 6 inches of snow possible. Sigh. I can't believe it's April. We leave next Friday to visit my SIL and her partner in Seattle. While we are there, SIL will take the boys to work with her at a very well-known, international company which specializes in hot, caffinated beverages. She's a high-up mucky-muck in the IT department, and it will be an eye-opener for the boys for sure! TADA PODA DS16.75 got a truck yesterday. It's a nice little Ford Ranger, and he got an amazing deal on it, paid a quarter of the Blue Book value. I spent a lot of yesterday helping him negotiate the DMV registration process. Yuck. I just started reading Bill Byson's In A Sunburned Country, which is a travelogue about Australia. It is one of the funniest books I have ever read. See Ya, Morning gals! Jo, it was 15Morning gals! Jo, it was 15 here on Saturday morning, but only an inch of snow. But back up to semi normal temps now. Except massive wind blowing about. Andrea, yay on taxes completed (which reminds me I need to call our accountant and see if they fixed my 2005 ones yet). I got a bit done yesterday: Then we lost power and water thanks to the sand storm in progress. And more today. Loverly. Can't go out and enjoy the nice weather unless you want to be sandblasted in the process. LOL! Will Sanjaya leave tonight (Lord, PLEASE!!). Stay tuned! ![]() HI All- Lunchtime checkHI All- TADA so far: Not sure what else we will do - Bummer about the sand Jenny! Bye! ![]() Myrtle BeachHi ladies. Sounds like some of you are having really off weather! It got coldish here but not nearly in the teens. Its heading back towards the high 70s low 80ish side of spring. Before the cold snap we almost made it to 90! Already started laundry, must do more this is gonna be a busy day! I just wonder if I can get a swimsuit at target for the 25 bucks thats on the card. Im sure it will be close. Anyhow Ill be off for a few days so wishing you ladies a great weekend! Jenn, have a great time atJenn, have a great time at Myrtle Beach! Growing up, we used to go there every summer. Stayed at the Swamp Fox Inn right on the beach. Pool outside the patio doors, then down the steps to the sand. We quit going when my grandfather died. Lots of Putt Putt courses there (we loved the one with a live petting zoo right there on the course!). And one of my favorite places to eat was Drunkin' Jack's. LOL! I'm beginning to think American Idol is paid off or rigged. Why is Sanjaya STILL there?! And how could Haley (dh says the Hot Chick) get voted off!? Something so not right! He's not even in the bottom three! The men this year have been way outsung by the women, but still, Phil, Chris, and Sanjaya are all still there (Blake is the best male this year, but he still can't hold a candle to any of the ladies). I got lots of baking done yesterday. Two batches of brownies, 2 loaves of banana bread (all sliced and wrapped individually). Then DD9 and I did one of her 4-H baking projects: Baking Powder Biscuits. I did one batch, she did the other (all by herself). They tasted great, but we need to work on appearance. I got the kitchen cleaned up, all kids showered and off to bed. Then Drew decided to sleep restlessly or not at all most of the night. Today I have to go to the school to work the bake sale. Then an IEP meeting for dd7. TGIT! LOL! Good Evening! I couldn't getGood Evening! I couldn't get on the site all day, weird...very slow too TADA Jenny- how did the IEP go? It's for speech therapy if I recall, right? The sandstorms would drive me crazy, don't know how you deal with all that, bleh. Jenn-my neighbor down the street goes to Myrtle Beach every summer. I have never been. Enjoy yourself, what a special treat! Better shower and go to bed... Heidi Good evening, LadiesTADA: Lois, so know what you meanLois, so know what you mean about the wind. Hope you have a better day tomorrow. Heidi, IEP went fine. Yes, for speech. No big deal. Nothing I wasn't expecting. She still has some trouble with /z/ and /s/ sounds, and ch, sh blends. Recommended the same therapy schedule we are on (twice a week for 30 minutes each). Bake sale went well. Made $337.81. Not bad for 14 kids in the class (that's all our 2nd grade). Money will pay for our field trip to Lubbock to the Science Spectrum and IMax Theater. We had banana bread and brownies, rice crispie treats, cupcakes, single servings of cheesecake, popcorn, grab bags of candy and some bags of cookies all for .50 each. Pickles go for .75 (small cup of frozen pickle juice for .25, kids will eat anything!). Coke, rootbeer, or Dr. Pepper floats for $1.00. But the biggest seller are always burritos. We had some red and some green chili ones, about 3 dozen of them, and sell them for $1.50 each. kids and teachers buy those up quick. High schoolers even sneak down between classes before the sale starts to ensure they will get some (they have 3rd lunch and pickins are slim by the time they get down there). All we had left over was a few rice crispie treats and 2 pickles. That's all that got done today. dinner was whatever anyone fixed themselves. Braves lost. I'm about ready to get to bed and read for a while (Aunt Flo is here. First time in over 2 years since she has visited. I didn't miss her). Good Morning! Well I gotGood Morning! Well I got called to sub at the middle school in the office. This is my first time since I applied at the end of March. Hopefully it will go well. so: PODA Frozen Pickle Juice?! You mean I can sell that? Wow... I am amazed. LOL Glad it went so well. Lois-how long will you be in LA? Better get going here.... Heidi ![]() Morning Flyfriends!TADA PODA We got 4 inches of snow yesterday/last night, and it's still snowing. We're supposed to get a Nor'easter on Sunday. All this snow is just a super slippery coating on the mud. I want to move. Peace, PicklesI don't know what it is about pickles, but kids love them. Frozen pickle juice, pickle juice sno-cones. Personally, I about puke just at the smell of pickles. LOL! But hey, kids will buy it! LOL! Heidi, good luck with subbing!! Jo, we didn't have snow today, but other parts of New Mexico did, around and east of Albuquerque. Hope it doesn't come here! House catch up again today. maybe kitchen zone chores. Bills, too. If I can get DH out of the house (I don't like doing those with him around. He gets mad about the money spent on trivial things, like gas for his semi and tractor, insurance, feed and fence and other farm supplies). Lois isn't kidding about the wind!We stayed inside yesterday, for sure. It was hurricane-level. Baby's in the front pack being reasonably peaceful, so now I'm trying to decide where to catch up next before he wakes up! We've had a lot of help from family and friends so the place is not a disaster, but there still is plenty to do-- laundry, dishes, etc. He never did get into nursing so he's still on pumped milk and formula-- therefore LOTS of dishes! Good evening, LadiesA much nicer day, weather-wise today, I think. It was breezy when I drove into LA. Then I was inside all day in a meeting. About 12 hours of meetings tomorrow. Then I will go home on Sunday morning. Good Morning! Becky-so goodGood Morning! Becky-so good to hear from you. Glad to hear things are going okay with the baby. Well, subbing went well yesterday. I was an attendance assistant, then filled in for the nurse when she took lunch, then the front office asst when she took lunch, etc. Mostly answered phones, stuffed some envelopes, and chatted with various staff. My son even stopped in to say hello between classes! TADA PODA Easy day here...I am all for that! Heidi ![]() Hi Becky! Great to see youHi Becky! Great to see you around! Hope Sam is doing well! Hi Heidi - glad the subbing went ok. Well, I'm off to tackly my PODA. Have some errands to do - I have a junior high kidI have a junior high kid coming over to work on cleaning out what will be my chicken house. It's been collecting crap for the past 30-50 years. Hopefully he will even get the fence put up for me. I invited his little sister to come along to play with my girls for the day, also (she is inbetween my girls). And maybe his mom will stay for a little while so I can have some adult conversation! LOL! I think while the girl is here, we may all do some baking projects. I'm thinking sugar cookies or oatmeal raisin ones. And I'm craving some cheesecake as well, and my new Paula Deen cookbook has a pretty easy one (thankfully, DH doesn't like cheesecake. More for me!). My TADA yesterday was nothing I had planned on doing. DH hung around all day because it was raining and SNOWING. Bleh! Back in the 60's today. I did teach DD9 how to use the sewing machine (but haven't made anything yet). Dinner was Pizza Slut (which leftovers became breakfast! yummy!). While in town we ran by Walmart to pick up perscription and groceries for my MIL. Girls are going to spend the night there tonight. yay! Good morning, LadiesPODA: Post new comment |
