Mending Wall cont'd

Some may dimly recall a photo I posted in October of 2005 wherein DH and his dad took out part of the drywall of the kitchen/entryway wall. Thus began the home improvemnt project in which my darling, studly husband is taking his dear sweet time.

Since TNH lost the old photo albums I'm reposting the pics here.

December 2005: the rest of the drywall and some of the wall studs came down.

January 2006: the rest of the studs were removed and DH built up the half wall that is replacing the former walls. After this he slowly rewired the wall and had it inspected and OK'd with permits.

At some point in the summer of 2006 DH put up the new drywall. I dimly remember it was in the summer--the memory fragment that I recall is that when Lynn & Co. came over for a swim party DH begged the use of JJ and their minivan to pick up the drywall. Dunno which month.

March 2007: This is where we are now, we are taping and mudding the drywall and the ceiling. And I do mean "we"! DD weilding a putty knife and filling in screw holes filled me with pride. I actually like mudding except for the inside corners. The tape hates me. DH kindly offered to do that bit. So I got to do the outside corners which is fun. This compound that we're using takes friggin forever to dry, this will probably take all week. Lookin good though!

Next step once mudding is done--texturizing the wall and ceiling. I anticipate this taking all summer. After that, capping the top of the wall with some piece of hardwood. That should take the better part of autumn. Then painting--that'll have to wait until the summer of 2008 at least.

I'm being somewhat facetious here.

I am not discounting the hard work DH has done but I do remember his promise when he began this that it wouldn't take forever...

I've chosen to assume a humorous attitude towards the whole thing. It'll get done when it gets done and in the meantime I've got what I wanted in the first place--the kitchen opened up to more of the house.
