I need to know how to set the dyes in embroidery thread before using it in red work.

But to be sure, immerse some in water and see how red the water gets. If the answer is "a lot," you can try washing it with gentle soap in tepid water and then rinsing until the water comes clean. You can also soak in vinegar water.

I've used the vinegar water

I've used the vinegar water before on embroidery thread, seemed to work for me. I don't remember the ratio of vingar to water you'd need, but I'm sure you could find it pretty quickly on the net.
