I feel like I got something

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 02/02/2007 - 8:08am.

I feel like I got something accomplished yesterday. Laundry all caught up (I just can't do a load a day like Flylady says. I skip a day when I have to go to town or really not enough for a load. I like a couple or three days a week to do laundry).

Today, more of the same. And work on a sewing project a bit more.

Spent all day yesterday at

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 02/04/2007 - 11:19am.

Spent all day yesterday at the inlaws. SIL is in town for FIL's birthday. FIL got a cake on his actual birthday, but managed to get another (Italian Cream both times) for the weekend. LOL! We are headed back over there today. DH and three kids have already gone, but baby is taking a nap, so I'll go when he wakes up.

I started my morning searching for 2 CDs. Two hours later, after going thru each and every CD case in the house, by the computer, an in all three trucks, I finally found it. Well, I ended up not only going thru each case, but putting all CDs back into the proper case. It was amazing. See, I found the two cases I wanted right off, but no cds. I was finding cases with 2 cds in them but neither the right cd for the case. Also, keep in mind that I haven't touched any of the cds or cases since I don't know when. All of it was DH's doing. I was all gung ho after organizing them all and bubbled over with excitement that we all need to keep the cds in the proper cases from now on (not saying that HE needed to do so), I got bitched out for nagging and that he was watching a movie, leave him alone, etc. Damnit. He knows how to really deflate my mood and piss me off all while breaking my heart. Oh, well. I'm used to it. Heaven forbid I talk while the tv is on (even though it was commercial when I was talking, but apparently there wasn't enough commercial for what I had to say).

Sorry, had to vent. At least the cds are in order.

Back up in the 60's here

Submitted by jennye on Tue, 02/06/2007 - 7:55am.

Back up in the 60's here today (or supposed to be. Still in the 30's now). But we had all that cold a couple weeks ago. Ya'll can keep it! LOL!

Yesterday I was supposed to get the livingroom/dining/kitchen areas cleaned in my "clean a room a day" cleaning frenzy. But I ended up running to town for more cleaning products (floor cleaner and easy off), then I may as well get groceries for the week, wash my truck (well, knocked the worst of the mud off), then DH wanted me to get 17 rolls of barb wire for him. So, ended up being an errand day. Then last night was dinner at a friend's house. BUT, I did get the oven and stovetop/drip pans cleaned REAL good (I LOVE easy off!). Also cleaned the microwave good (Mr Clean Magic Erasure is AWESOME!).

Today, need to go to daughter's spelling bee (that I thought was yesterday), and catch up on the rest of yesterday's cleaning and do todays (the office).

Submitted by heidic on Tue, 02/06/2007 - 10:34am.

Good Afternoon!

We are off today too and yesterday as well. With minus -20 degree windchills here that is why. So we have been hibernating at home although I need groceries and other things badly. Will just have to wait another day. We have made cookies(and eaten most of them!!), watched movies, played Boggle, dominoes,etc.....getting a bit stir crazy here though. Gotta think of another creative thing to keep everyone content???!!!

See ya,stay warm

Submitted by Andrea on Tue, 02/06/2007 - 3:29pm.

Hopefully they will go back tomorrow Heidi and you can regain your sanity. I think we all will go back tomorrow.

Well, I finished my PODA. The baseboards were gross - very dirty. They seem to collect dust and when I mop the kitchen, I know I don't get them. Anyway, that felt good. Did some scrapping. I actually did almost 4 pages this (long) weekend. I am really enjoying it and getting better all the time, I think. My pages are becoming more thoughtful and hopefully based on the feelings of the event (birthday, Christmas, whatever) and less of a simple reporting of what the activity was.

Dinner is on the stove and I need to go pick up DD8 from Brownies in about 10 minutes.

See ya!

Well, I goofed off again

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 02/07/2007 - 7:39am.

Well, I goofed off again yesterday! LOL! I had to run to the school for spelling bee (DD7 made it to the 3rd round). Then go vote (school board elections. Glad our gal won, 35-11). Got home and it was BEAUTIFUL outside, nearly 70's. I opened windows in the house, then helped DH outside to fix the suburban. We ended up running to town for a part and washed the vehicle, picked the kids up from school on the way back, then cleaned up the yard (torn toys and other things thanks to the puppy, dog poop from same source) and kids rode bikes and 4-wheelers. Inside at dark to do homework, fix dinner, watch American Idol.

So now I am TWO whole days behind on my massive cleaning of the house! I also have the kids awards assembly/dessert banquet for Honor Roll (DD9, DD7 and DS4 made Honor Roll!). And need to mail a package from something I sold on Ebay.

Cold Day!

Submitted by Shaun on Thu, 02/08/2007 - 1:06pm.

OK, Andrea, you live out east, so I suppose I can understand it, but Heidi, I thought you were a midwesterner! Here in prairie country we don't cancel school for cold! I'm sure some of you remember me saying that I can remember one time that SE Minn. schools were closed for cold: it was colder than -70 windchill, and the gov. closed schools for the whole state. And lots of people complained!!

Anyhoo -- Hola! I am back from my fabulous Mexican vacation. Oh, the sun, the sea, the sand -- in my shoes, my sheets, my sunscreen. Loved our vacation, can't wait to go back, delighted to return to American bathrooms and sandless floors.

More later -- hope all is well with everyone!

Hi Flyfriends!!

Submitted by Tigerlilly on Thu, 02/08/2007 - 5:14pm.

Still flapping along here in New York! It has been pretty cold here- 20 to 30's everyday. We haven't really done much but survive the days. I have watched Toy Story, Barbie fairtytopia and Curious George a million times. Bad Momma lets kids watch way too much tv but its getting harder to entertain them. I have danced, read, played in the tent, played playdoh, painted.... Thank Goodness they really are good and occupy themselves. Oh and last weekend we got a piano- Bil's neighbors sold it for a really great price. I have been trying to learn- haven't read sheet music in forever and I am not exactly musically talented. It is keeping us busy though. We just have to get through February and hopefully warmer weather will be on its way Smiling

Hopefully Alexa will be asleep any minute- Luke's new bedtime has been 7pm since he dropped his afternoon nap. Its been hard since Lex has dropped her nap too, but at least bedtime has been earlier and way easier.

Jenny, congrats on honor roll and the spelling bee. You must be very proud!

Shaun, I hope you had a great vacation- what part of Mexico did you go to? One of my favorite trips was to Cozumel. That was one crazy trip of too much sun and too much tequila.... I think if I had one shot of tequila these days I would fall down Eye-wink

Big waves to everyone else Smiling
Heres the flapping:
~had Dsister and Dniece over for lunch and girls played together
~cleaned my smelly garbage pail in kitchen
~one load laundry washed and put away
~vacuumed downstairs
~cleaned coffeemaker. I never do this so maybe my coffee will taste better
Thats really about all. HAve a great night flyfriends Smiling Love Jackie

Hi Everyone -

I know, we are wimps here Shaun! DH, the Minnesotan, was surprised by the closings. I think that NY has just not had the cold temps lately and so they are afraid of them. It was nice to have the time off though. What a great vacation you had!

Hey Jackie! Have fun with the piano! We have one that is played not enough. And I actually know how to play - it is terrible.

Heidi, how was the gymnastics class?

Shaun-glad you had a great vacation. Our district never cancels school but the widchills were very low and too many kids who walk to school could get frostbite so that was the reasoning.

Hi Jackie-you will get through! let them get a little bored, then they learn ways to occupy themselves. Hang in!

Submitted by witchiepoo on Fri, 02/09/2007 - 6:09am.

We've been sickies at our house lately. We seem to keep on passing stuff around. First it was a stomach bug. Then a headache/sore throat thing, and now it's a cough. Fun fun.

Well, what with staying home more due to cold and sickness, the house is in good shape, mostly.

Finally Friday

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 02/09/2007 - 7:34am.

Heidi, glad you signed DD up for gymnastics! That's something I had wanted my girls to do, but never got around to it. I feel bad about that. I guess it's not too late, but between the sports that they will be playing next year (soccer and basketball and probably cheering again), don't know when we could fit it in.

Shaun, how fun! Did you wave at my house on the way back? Ya know, NEW Mexico isn't that much different that Old Mexico. We have sand (but no water), we have tequila, we have sun. And we have what Old does not, cold and snow! LOL!!

Andrea, get better soon! Tummy bug not fun!

Jackie, way to go on the piano! Wish I had one. I have an organ (I don't like the organ, but was given to me from my stepmother to spite my grandfather, so I can't get rid of it), I have guitars that I can't play yet. But I can play (or used to play) piano. Someday. And I let my kids watch too much TV, too. Keeps them out of trouble. LOL!

I've REALLY slacked off this week! It was supposed to get my house really clean week since my mom and gram are coming on Sunday, but I haven't. Yesterday I got hooked on beating Star Wars Legos on the PS2. And I did! I mean, find-every-secret-to-unlock-bonus-levels beat it. LOL! We did get the office cleaned up last night. At least, DH's side. My side is just a lost cause.

Ya know what ticks me off. That I take the time to fix a nice dinner for a change and try something a little new (from DD7's Scholastic cooking club cookbook). It was pork chops with an applesauce topping. I got it out of the oven and DH yells "is that apple sauce!? Why did you ruin them!?". Then he doesn't come to the table to try them, he actually didn't eat last night. It's actually heartbreaking. And I'm just mad over it. Jerk. Well, next time he complains about hamburger helper or mac and cheese, I have something I'll throw back at him. BTW, they were delicious! And these weren't just any store bought pork chops, these were from a pig a friend raised and had processed for us. HOME GROWN porkchops! Yummy!! Very tender.

Sounds like some nice time off Heidi! How did the shopping go? I am not sure I will make it to DH tonite - I am beat. I often watch it online the next day -

Hey Jenny and everyone else! How was the weekend?

Ours was busy, but not too bad. DS10 had a basketball game yesterday am and he made one basket, which is all it takes for him to be happy Smiling Then they went to Quest (activities at school), then I made shrimp creole for dinner from all recipes - yum - o! (couldn't help it) This am, church and
then general puttering, quick trip to WalMart. Oh , I shopped Sat am very early - it was nice. DD8 had a friend over. DH made a roast chicken with mashed potatoes for dinner. I made gravy. Yum (ok I won't do it). I really need to get back on my diet tomorrow.

I did basic flying - kitchen floor, working on baseboards in the LR today. A little scrapping.

Submitted by Shaun on Sun, 02/11/2007 - 8:56pm.

Isn't that standard? Didn't Jenny's DH watch the Brady Bunch?

We went to Isla Mujeres, which is a tiny island about a 30-min. ferry ride from Cancun (so not far from Cozumel, I think). It is pretty much a sleepy little place, nothing like Cancun. The streets pretty much roll up after dark.

I didn't go wild with the tequila until the last night -- which was probably not so bright considering the long day of travel ahead, but we were with friends (we each had one side of a double bungalow on the beach!) and we wanted to celebrate with them.

It was just so beautiful there, and everything was so fresh and tasty -- seafood, fruit . . . You could walk just about everywhere, and tour the entire island in a golf cart! The kids and DH loved it too--can't wait to book it for next year!

We are up and about very very early thanks to a teething baby boy. Luke has decided 4:30am would be a good time to get up. At least he wasn't crying but holy cow am I tired!! This too shall pass. Boy is he lucky he is cute. Oh and big news- he is walking now- life as I knew it is gone! I am officially the momma of 2 kids Eye-wink

We are flapping around here. We were supposed to get some big snowstorm which turned into sleet and mostly rain. Alexa is pretty disappointed since she wanted to build "Crusty" (Frosty). Im sure there a re lots of disappointed kids waking up and going to school today Smiling

Heidi- good for you with the walking with your neighbor. I was doing it also and it was a great motivator for both of us but somehow the holidays and the cold stopped us. I need to start again. I feel so much better starting off the day with exercise.

Hey Everyone!

Let's keep the thread going!

Hi Becky - how are you feeling with the pregnancy? Do you know the sex of the baby? Mind teling us?

Waves to everyone else - hope everyone is well -

I am starting my winter break - yay!! Love it. Fortunately it matches up with the kids. We've enjoyed two days so far - DD and I went to a movie yesterday and bowling today. DS went sledding yesterday with DH and bowling today. He has a baseball camp M and T. We hope to go to the science museum Thursday. I hope to get some scrapping done - I've been doing pretty good lately. I am caught up to Fall, 2005 for DD and completely caught up for DS. Of course there are the two years that I completely missed for both of them.

Anyway, we have a lot of snow, but it looks like it will warm up this week and we will have a slushy mess.

Have a great evening all - I will be around more this week so join me!

Need to keep the laundry going, as I am taking the girls to grandma's with me later this week and we need something to wear. Mostly I'm working while mom watches the kids!

Went to the Craft Yarn Council Knit Out yesterday -- free yarn, free needles, free crochet hooks, free patterns, and lots and lots of inspiration. yay! Also, found a new yarn store -- I like the one closest to me, but this other one has a different selection. Thinking of joining their sock club and learning to do socks.

Hope you have a great break, Andrea!

Andrea-sounds like you have Break all mapped out, enjoy. Yes,we will have a slushy week here as well, yuk. that means having to wipe the dog's paws every time she comes in!

I walked and did paid organizing this weekend. DH baked cheese straws with kids and we hung out at home.

Today DD and I go to my friend's for a playdate and she will dye my hair while we are there, it is way overdue. Quick stop at the breadstore as well and finish up with laundry. There's an exhibit at the nature center I may take kids to if we get back home in time.

Andrea-thanks about the walking. We have only missed a handful of times since New Year's(It was one of my resolutions, walking). They say anything you do at least 21 times becomes a habit so I guess walking is my habit now!!
We have Moon Sand here too. Santa brought it for DD.

Going out to lunch with a few neighborhood ladies today. We haven't had a ladies night out in awhile so we are doing lunch instead.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Andrea, never heard of a winter break. Does this mean you don't get a spring break? We had two weeks off at Christmas and will have Spring break the last full week of March. School is out Thursday before Memorial Day (three months away! YES!). How cool you are getting some scrapping done!

I got the whole house cleaned yesterday. Someone had come by to look at it (no, it isn't on the market. But for the right price, almost anything is for sale, right?). This was her second time seeing it (she popped by Tuesday when I wasn't expecting to peek in the windows, nearly got an eyefull as I was feeding the baby. LOL!). She really wants it and has money just burning a hole in her pocket, but her lawyer is advising against it. Well, it's really not for sale anyway, and the timing would have been hard for us to build a house for us to move into on one of our farms. Just as well. At least the house is clean! LOL!

We got an estimate last week about gutting and remodeling our kitchen and enclosing the garage. Guess we can go forward with that now, too. The guy can start in May or June on it.

I have some laundry to do today, finish up a couple of items for my taxes (due next week!). And I'm running to town to the grocery store. I would also really like to deliver these maternity clothes to the gal that needs them. Get them out of my hair. Temps are supposed to be in the 70's today. Maybe I can work on my garden spot some. Hmmm...I got a seed catalog the other day that will be fun to look at, too.

Submitted by Andrea on Thu, 02/22/2007 - 5:39pm.

Hi All -

Hope everyone had a great day!

Jenny, to answer your question - we get about 1 week at Xmas, a Winter Break in February for 1 week and then a spring break in April for 1 week and 1 day (Good Friday). Most schools run this schedule anyway. Plus the regular holidays - MLK Day, Thanksgiving, etc. The downside is that we go through the 3rd week in June - which seems long. But I do enjoy the breaks throughout the year, so I guess it is a tossup. I think I remember having this conversation with you before - but who knows with my memory! NY schools have to hold classes 180 days each school year which is pretty typical I think. Ask Jeff what NM requires.

Quite the PODA there Heidi!

Well, we had a good day, though I am beat - tired and also emotionally wiped out. DD8's friend was here and we decided to go on an outing - which was a good idea I rthink. anyway, we went to the mall to look for shoes for DS (no luck) and had lunch there. Did buy him a pair of shorts and some wristbands for basketball. Then to the Science Museum which was way crowded. Every parking place was full!! I had second thoughts, but we went in and it was fine. Kids had fun. I renewed my membership for 10.00 off so it was a good thing. Home aboaut 4:00 and made dinner. Did get laundry done and some cleaning before we left. DD's friend has been her friend for 7 years and her Mom is one of my few close friends here. She seems to have become more demanding over the years - for example at the mall she was asking for 2 pieces of pizza and 2 breadsticks instead of 1! My kids only got 1 of course. DS didn't even want a breadstick. She has no qualms about asking for "stuff" - she wanted to go to Build a Bear! Anyway, it just rubs me the wrong way. I can't imagine my kids ever being that way and I really don't think they are. Her Mom is the nicest person so I don't get where it is coming from.

Tomorrow - nothing planned at this point - we will see!

Make sure they do both ears

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 02/23/2007 - 8:40am.

Make sure they do both ears at the same time. They didn't with either of my girls, Shelby did fine, but Ch'ree never did let them do the other one (and it's been 2 years now! LOL!).

Andrea, we probably did have that conversation before. But I can't remember what I ate yesterday half the time! LOL! I think NM runs on hours in school rather than days. I was told that once. Which is how we are able to run on 4 day weeks rather than 5. By adding 45 minutes to each day, we were able to eliminate Fridays, but still start school (mid-August), end (last thursday in May), and have holidays like before. We even get a day off for the county fair (since so many kids are in the fair with their animals). We had to cut out any half days to do it, but so worth it I think. If there is a holiday on Monday, we usually make it up by going that Friday (though this week is an exception. No school today, but teacher do have inservice today). By having Friday's off, parents can arrange to schedule dr. or dentist appointments on Friday and student not have to miss any school.

Yesterday I got busy on the garden area, since it was so nice yesterday! It was really overrun with dead tumbleweeds and other weeds that were as tall as my head. Got over half done before Drew had had enough of playing outside. I may try to work on it some this morning since DD9 is here and can play with him. Winds are supposed to pick up in an hour or so. Sustained winds 40MPH, gusts 50+. Bleh. All day, night, and all day tomorrow. I guess I'll be stuck inside the rest of the day, I have some sewing to finish up. And I really would like to start decluttering the kitchen. Bet I could get a box of misc. stuff out of there.

She did it! Lots of tears, but she still really wanted it done. I think the lady who did it thought I was pressuring her, but I really wasn't. She used some numbing spray, but she said it still hurt quite a bit. So now the cleaning routine begins. They are cute - she chose the September birthstone - sapphire, even though it isn't hers.

I do like the idea of your 4-day schedule Jenny. Don't know if it would ever fly here.

Andrea

I think the 4-day week works

Submitted by jennye on Fri, 02/23/2007 - 3:06pm.

I think the 4-day week works so well here because we are a rural area. A lot of kids have someone that can either stay home with them on Friday, someplace they can go (grandparents or other family closeby), or the kids are trusted enough to just stay home by themselves. I think in a big city, where alot of parents work and have careers, it's more of a "what will I do with my kids that day". Day care? Hire a babysitter?

Another advantage to our 4-day week is energy savings. Less food for the cafeteria, less heating or AC for the school on that one day, and most of all, less fuel for the busses! 1/5 in savings just from that. And folks in town that send there kids here don't have to worry about transportation that day as well.

I managed to feed the cows and horses and work in the garden for 10 minutes before the wind hit. Bleh. Have, however, done some cleaning out in my cabinets that I store food. Threw away a few things.

Hello Ladies

Submitted by LoisDenominator on Fri, 02/23/2007 - 5:33pm.

Jenny, if you wait a while, those tumbleweeds will just blow away! That is my DH's belief about yardwork.

I have been busy purging. I called a plumber to repipe our house. We have the original galvanized pipes, and they are over 40 years old. We have been lucky.

The good/bad thing about needing the house repiped is that I have to make the entire house presentable. That means purging lots of junk. So I am. Whatever it takes, right?

Hey Everyone -

I can definitely see the advantages of the 4-day school week Jenny. I think you are right about the 5th day off being a problem for working parents though. The would definitely need a supporrt system - paid or otherwise for that 5th day.

Hi Lois! The plumbing sounds like a big job. Hope it isn't too expensive!

We just got back from dinner out. DD is in bed and the ret of us are enjoying a fire and basketball - well the boys are anyway. Tomorrow will be busy with various appointments, parties, etc. Not sure what I will get done.

I've just been lurking along. DH and I are sharing a miserable cold! I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow, so am just hoping the baby stays in until my cold is gone. It's an especially bad one-- definitely a cold by the symptoms, but it feels as awful as the flu for the first week. It's been going around, some of our friends have had it as well. But now I'm done with the first week, so it just feels like a regular old cold at this point. Anyway I haven't gotten much flying or anything else done since I came down with it! Keeping up with the bare minimum of routines, somewhat, and that's it. But I wanted to say hi. Smiling

OMG Lois! Talk about an eventful night!! Wow!

Heidi, glad mom is ok.

Wow Becky! Didn't realize you were that close to your due date (I was thinking early summer for some reason). yay!

I made it to church yesterday (first time this year! Been hard between company and bad weather/bad roads). Also had board meeting afterwards, DH actually took the baby with him to load up some machinery he had bought at an auction over the weekend (the other three kids were in Sunday School). When we got home my tummy didn't feel right all night, so nothing got done but baths (only because it was right by the toilet. LOL!). Still not 100% today, but sipping on a coke to help it.

Hope to get weekly blessing done. We have a thing tonight at the school, our sorry excuse for a music teacher puts it on as a fund raiser. Soup while the kids sing. I need to make a crock pot of soup, some cornbread, and a dessert. So most of the day will be spent cooking that stuff up.

Mornin' gals!

Another sunny day, but cooler and still breezy (but not WINDY like yesterday! ugh!). Funny weather NM has. In the 50's for the highs the next couple of days, but in the upper 70's next week. LOL!

I've been spending way too much time drooling over a camera on Ebay. I may as well go ahead and buy it so I won't be sitting here looking at them for so long! LOL!

Lots of laundry to do today. DH is going to Santa Fe for school board stuff and "I need my black jeans washed!". LOL! So, working on that today. Then this afternoon I have to run to town to pick up our taxes and get them in the mail (along with a big ol' check. double ugh). Thank goodness it's Friday (hehehe). American Idol tonight, kids can stay up late. I'm in an organizing mood today, I want to make schedules and lists kind of mood. Plan out 4-H projects with the chickens and pigs, gardening, etc. Can't wait to get the other packets. I'm a good planner, just not a good do-er. Need to work on that. After town today (third day in a row) I'm not planning on going anywhere for a few days. Will be nice to just sit at home.
