Flybabies January 1

I've always loved the liberating freedom that the beginning of a new year brings. I love blank calendars and starting devotion books on page 1. I thrill in writing down goals in a journal. Heck, I even like the idea of starting a new eating/exercise plan.

It has been a quiet and lazy new year's day here. DD spent the night with inlaws last night and didn't come home until 5 minutes ago. DH and I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" last night and I went to bed after it went off -- at 11:30! I loved the movie, though. Merle Streep is awesome. I just loved that quiet little dismissal "that's all". Too funny!

We didn't get a lot done, but we did get most of the Christmas stuff down. Still need to do some straightening. I really want to have everything in place and clean to start the workweek tomorrow. DD returns to school Wednesday.

My TADAs:

* Laundry - four loads done & put away
* Organized my work bag; wrote my to-dos for tomorrow in my calendar
* Walked 1 mile

Not much, but better than nothing. I watched most of the "Ugly Betty" marathon. I am new to UB. So, it caught me up a bit. It's a cute show. I hope I get to keep watching it.

Well, DD is tearing down my kitchen looking for her ice cream cups, so I'd better go.

Morning!! Vonnie, I want to see that movie!

I took down all the decorations yesterday, put them AWAY, and cleaned up the living room. Looks MUCH better, even stayed mostly that way over night. I'm sure it will get trashed today. Last day of kids being home. Yeehaw!!!! I love 'em, but glad to send them back to school for a little bit of a break for me now. LOL!

Last night was the last of the kids milk (all that is left is a little of DH's yucky skim milk. Hate that stuff!). Also running low on a few other things, so it will be off to town to Walmart today. Hope banks are open, need to put in some money. DH may be running up to Clovis to the farm bank (time to renew operating loan).

Snow is finally melting off here. DH and the kids have been playing in it. He took a hood off an old pickup, tied it with rope to the back of the 4-wheeler and they had so much fun with their homemade sled! Lots of funny video of it!

OK I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days and it's time to ask... what does TADA and PODA stand for? lol I'm driving myself nuts!!!

I think if you look in the dictionary you see my picture next to SLUG, but if memory serves we never quite invented the words to go with the acronym. I think the closest we got was Stuff Left Undone . . .

Well, today went ok - stuck to a good schedule at home and work. It helped that DH had dinner ready. Had time to play our new game with DD8 - Whoknuu? or something like that. A Cranium game. And then DS10 joined us when he got home from the neighbor's house. Laundry is done and put away. Dishes done. Resting up for tomorrow. Oh and homework is done, no easy feat for a 4th grader.

No, I don't think it's an official color. LOL! Got it done, not quite as blonde as DH wanted. But still pretty blonde. Actually, kinda a medium blonde with blonder highlights? I like it.

Today: Filing. And lots of it! I haven't really filed anything in MONTHS. I'm horribly behind. Made worse because DH dove into my desk looking for a title for a trailer. He had asked me to put it in a safe place. And I had. I just couldn't remember where. So, I need to reorganize everything for the new year (right?). Will be working on that most of the day, I'm sure.

Well, I am home with a sick child today. Same thing as she has had off & on for a month -- run fever, take Motrin, goes away after a day or so, then it's back in 2-8 days. Pediatrician never wants to see them unless they run higher fever for 3 days straight. She always runs it 2 days & then stops. So, I took her to a doc-in-the-box. We were in and out in less than an hour. Doctor was wonderful with her (better with her than pediatrician???), and even apologized to me twice for making us wait (ugh, wait? you mean 15 minutes here versus 3 hours at ped?). She has allergies and a viral infection. Negative on flu & negative on kidney or UTI (she complained of pain in side last night; probably a pulled muscle from riding scooter).

Boss lady wasn't thrilled with my being off, but she just has to get over it. Even if DH could have gotten off, I needed to be the one to take to the doctor. And, more importantly, she wanted her Mama. When she's sick, she is a real Mama's girl. I guess most kids probably are that way.

So, between doctor visit, TADA:

* Finished laundry & put away 2 loads of clothes
* Load of towels finishing in dryer now
* Organized my carry-all bag and my calendar
* Got bills paid online and posted to checkbook (woo- we're low on funds till payday Tuesday!)
* Made beds
* Straightening in general in foyer, dining area, etc. where things get piled up
* Got the residual Christmas stuff DH *still* hasn't gotten put away all in one place for him
* Doctor & dropped off prescription at drug store

My PODA for the rest of the day:

* Pick up meds when ready
* Fold & put away towels when finished drying
* Do kodakgallery albums and email
* Update my blog - uh oh
* Read in Bible study group book and make some notes (I'm leading this group starting 1/14 - ack!)
* Try my hand at a basic jewelry-making project
* Call MIchael's to get details on jewelry making class scheduled for 1/13 and email details to friend from church & my SIL
* Try to get w/piano teacher and schedule DD for lessons to start later this month

Hmmmm. That may be more than I can accomplish with a sickie in the house! We'll see.

Vonnie, sorry about DD being sick! No fun at all. Work will just have to get over it.

I have done 3 loads of laundry (well, folded one from yesterday, finished two today). Then I locked myself and Drew in the boys' room and have been going thru the toys. So far, one box of Happy Meal toys to give away (school or Sunday School for prizes), two walmart sacks of trash, and a laundry basket of stuff that doesn't belong in there. I'll sort thru the basket later. Going to tackle the girls room first.

We have school tomorrow. Since we missed Monday and Tuesday. I have some invoices to put into the computer from DH's weight tickets (hay hauling). Then this weekend is DH's family Christmas gathering (which was supposed to have been 22nd and 23 of Dec., but too many complained that they couldn't make it, so MIL had to change it. But the same people are STILL complaining, so you just can't please some people). That will be Friday and Saturday in our village's community building (because there are too many of them to squeeze into MIL's house). But DH will be gone to Las Cruces (6 hours away) to take his EMT license test. Wonder if I can sneak the dog in while he is away...

The cough medicine? Puked up. DD took it, said "ewww" then promptly started gagging and threw it up before she could get to bathroom. Poor baby. She is asleep on sofa now. I KNOW she's feeling bad when she sleeps on the sofa! I hope DH can get off tomorrow or my Mom can stay with her. I think she's on the mend, but not well enough for school by a long-shot.

I made my first necklace this afternoon! It is definitely amateur material, but hey, it's my first try. I made a dark red/crimson with silver spacers and a silver cross pendant. I think it looks OK.

So, Alabama has a new coach - Nick Saban. I'm so nonplussed by Alabama football these days. Never thought that would happen. Just sick of the richie rich's on the Board of Trustees driving everything and sick of paying college coaches so much and then tuition going up by leaps and bounds to finance it. Talk about misplaced priorities! Enough rant.

Well, I need to run. DH should be calling or home soon. Love y'all!

I hope DD is feeling better soon, Vonnie. Sometimes those docs in boxes are better and faster than your own doc.

Yesterday I had blood drawn for my upcoming physical. I am at the age where I worry that the doc will begin finding serious things.

we were in Florida for our annual trip to visit my dad and stepmom. Had great weather and the kids swam every day! Drove 18 hours straight and got home yesterday. caught up on most posts here. Sounds like everyone is doing well.

Dog was outside & knew something was up 'cause she started scratching the back door down about 5 minutes before the tornado warning siren started screaming - at 3:30 a.m. Looks like tornado passed about 8 miles to our north - thank goodness. Hope it has not touched down anywhere. We have a lot of friends who live in it's path, in northern part of county.

I hear sirens from fire station again, but it's not the tornado siren. They sound like they're sitting in the station running them. Local weather isn't showing anything new. Looks like our immediate area is in the clear. It's pouring down rain. Dog is pacing.

Thanks for the good thoughts on DD everyone. She seems feverish still at this early morning hour. She can take Motrin at 4:30. My poor baby.

Well, I'd better go. Maybe I can go back to sleep after this passes. Yea, right!

That's the question in my head right now. I have a Baby Ruth ice cream bar in the freezer calling my name.... But probably I should eat cereal because I want to use up the milk before it expires. So that's the breakfast part of my morning routine!

I'm about to go get myself ready to head out to our church's ladies craft morning. DH is staying here with DD. I almost backed out of going, but he is perfectly capable of watching her so I can get some time away to do something fun. Besides, I'm only a phone call away and it's about 3 miles away.

Flying? Well, my Mom flew here for me some yesterday morning, does that count? LOL!! I do have laundry going right now so I can finish it up when I get back around lunchtime. I'm really just maintaining right now. If DH would get the rest of the Christmas cr*p out of here (how many times have I posted that this week?), maybe I could get things cleaned up right. Geez.

Only flying I did was getting my cooking for last night and today's pot lucks done and cleaned up afterwards.

DH called me (and woke me up!) at 6:30 to let me know it was snowing down there (Las Cruces isn't very far from El Paso). We have the family thing all day and night today, so will be busy with that.

shhhh...I also let the dog in right after DH left for Las Cruces. He was a GOOD BOY!! Explored a bit, but for the most part, just sat or laid down in the LR and let the baby love on him. Very cute. Puppy, BTW, is now a 5 month old German Shephard and his head is level with the top of the arms of the couch. I would take pictures, but that would be evidence against me. LOL!

Vonnie it sounds like we had the same week, just on different sides of the Mason-Dixon! My DD3 finally woke up happy and cool today -- last night I was really getting worried. We have to worry about UTI stuff too, with her.

Becky, you reminded me that if I get some free time I really need to play around with my iPod. MIL got DH and me each one for Xmas, but I have hardly had time to do anything with it. His is the Red (special edition charity) version, and mine is hot pink -- his and hers! I need to get a bunch of kids audio books on there for our upcoming vacation -- 4 hours on a plane. Not that much for seasoned travelers, I know, but the longest ever for my girls.

Popping in really quick since for the first time in i dont know how long I actually have both kids napping AT THE SAME TIME!!! It is so so nice here today- 70 degrees. We were outside jumping in mud puddles- I finally gave in after I was sick of telling her to stay out- and it knocked her out!! Woohoo. And that is about the extent of my tada. I did clean my floors with my new Hoover Floormate. I think I am a gadget junkie. But I do absolutely LOVE this thing.

Vonnie and Shaun- I hope the kids are feeling better. I have never filled so many rxs for anitbiotics for kids as I have these past 3 weeks. I actually ran out of zithromax last night at work. I am sure glad I dont work the weekend!!

Jennie- do you feel like a new woman with your blonde hair?? Im glad you got to get it done!

Ok have a fun Saturday. DH is working OT today 12 hours and again tomorrow so my only tada and poda is to survive with a crazy 2 year old and a mobile 9 month old!! Busy weekend here, DS had his first basketball game this am at a school 30 minutes from here - at 8:30! It was fun though - then home for chores and they went to our school for Quest, an activity day that happens once a month. I mostly did stuff around the house 0 made salmon and pasta for dinner. PIcked out some photos to scrap tomorrow -

Family thing is almost over. We may go to inlaws here in a minute, I think favorite aunt and uncle were going to hang out there today before shoving off to Arizona to see their new great-grandbaby that came home from the hospital yesterday. but I may not. Not being around all weekend has taken it's toll on the place. DH was called out on the ambulance this morning, sounds like a broken hip. He thinks he did really well on the EMT board exams yesterday.

As far as german shpherds... I had one when I was little but she had to be put down and now I want another one! We're in an apt right now though and have no room for one so we have a mini dachsund.

Baby names. I had most of mine picked out before we were pregnant, too. In fact, I had my first girl and boy names picked out before I even MET my DH!! LOL! Shelby and Chance. I let him help with Drew and Ch'ree.

I've been putting up with DH all morning and am about ready to just get rid of him!! ARG! I swear, it doesn't matter what I do, it's never good enough. And it doesn't matter what I did do, it's "why didn't you do this?". I guess it's hard to watch someone like me when you are as PERFECT as he is (can you hear the sarcasm?). Good thing he is gone right now, I probably would have gone domestic abuse on him! LOL! I don't think I would have gotten very far, I'm only 5'6" 130 pounds, he is 6'5" 300. LOL!

Ok, I will have company coming in a day or two and a thousand things to do. Clean house today. Go to town and get groceries tomorrow. Also ball game tomorrow (we are cheering), 4-H meeting tonight, homecoming all week and game and dance on Thursday.

That's just me, jumping back in with both feet.

Had all the In-Laws over for New year's Eve, and we totally crisis cleaned beforehand. I have been really good about my routines ever since, so it is looking good at my house for a change. Whoo-Hoo! I am even down to one-count it-one load of laundry. Wow.

My kids have been really aggrivating lately, and with all the doing way too much of the fall and early winter I was really in a bad place mentally. I didn't sleep for 4 weeks, and lost 6 pounds because of anxiety related nausea. I'm feeling much better now, and dropped one of the classes I was planning to take this spring. I also resigned from two groups, so I can have some peace in my life. Oh, and in the middle of this all, the dog got hit and broke her pelvis in three places. Playing nursemaid to a 90 pound lab/mastiff mix is no treat! And, DH's foot never healed (the break in August) so he had surgery in Novemeber, and then got another post-surgical staph infection. So far the keflex seems to be working-thank God! I tell ya, when it rains it pours!

I had a nice long one yesterday, but I lost it! Oh, well.

I have training at our insurance company today. I'll be about 40 miles away from 9-12. My co-worker said yesterday, OK, we'll see you around 12:30. Ugh, excuse me? I have to DRIVE 40 miles not to mention the fact that I do still have a lunch hour! I had thought I'd get something and eat it on the way back, but with the attitude there recently, I may just stop and eat at my leisure! My co-worker refuses to help in any way. If I am helping someone and another customer walks in, she just gets on the phone (personally) and stays there and doesn't offer to help. I know yesterday she didn't have work she was doing because no one had called or come in for a quote from her. I think she is a little resentful because I work 8-3. I guess she thinks she'll make me work alone from 8-3 and then she'll work 3-5. It's frustrating at times because I'll have phone calls and walk-ins stacked up and everyone wants what they want right now. And there is co-worker, playing on the computer or talking on the phone. Friday, a lady pulled up that we were expecting. Co-worker had done the quote and the man (who didn't come) was a tyrant. Anyway, co-worker didn't want to finish the quote and write the policy, so she ran back to the boss' office and stood and talked forever so she wouldn't be up there to help the lady. Well, the Lord does have a way of working these things out, because the woman sat in her vehicle for 45 minutes and by the time she came in (2:55) I was about to leave! Ha, ha! So co-worker had to do it anyway! Yesterday, she told me the lady was there for a solid hour! She was a little nutty and I think strung out on some kind of medication. I just frowned and told her I hated that the woman waited until I had to leave to come in! Boo, hoo! I don't know why co-worker started the quote and then wanted me to finish it anyway! I have had a pretty good attitude adjustment about just shutting my mouth and doing the housework. I'm trying to see it as a serve your family and try to make a peaceful, welcoming home for all kind of thing. This has been very interesting, and worked out much as it says in Sink Reflections. Both my boys deelp cleaned his own room without me asking, everyone has put away his own dishes, without me saying a word. And things absolutely are more peaceful and welcoming. It's even had an impact on the kids' moods. No running around in a panic trying to find clothes in the morning has meant less stress and bad moods, plus we get out the door on time. Since I have more time in the mornings, I made breakfast both days this week and even got a thank you from both of them! Who would've thunk it?

Alright, off to read the paper.

I'm too hot with a sweatshirt on but too cold with just a t-shirt (even long sleeved!), my body just can't seem to make up it's mind!

Well I know I’ve not been very dependable at posting lately, well for the last couple years I guess, but I do need to get serious and get some things back on track in my home. I can’t think of a better place to keep me motivated… so I’m back. At least for a while, maybe if I don’t post someone could email me a kick in the butt?? Any takers??

As most of you know my Mom moved to SA back in September and lived with us up until about 2 weeks ago. Well I got lazy while she was here. The end. Mom helped out with the cooking and cleaning but all other efforts fell to the wayside. I have a huge TODO list and I need to seriously establish some routine in my home. I joined the gym back in early December and have yet to show up once. By week end I want to at least be at a point that I can take an hour off away from the house to workout at the gym. Right now I’d feel too guilty to leave so I have some major work in the next 5 days.

I’ll start with my TADA for the day, not very long but it’s something.
*dishes moved from sink to dish washer
*load of clothes in the dryer and one in the washer
*Living room and family room clear of toys, just need to vac and dust
*all 5 trees are down, need to take lights off outside of house

PODA/ TODO (over the next 5 days)
*major declutter in pantry/laundry room
*major declutter in master bedroom
*major declutter in Trey’s room
*also Savannah’s room
*Vac downstairs
*vac upstairs

And no one took responsibility. That darned Flylady said other family members would jump on the bandwagon if you keep you mouth shut, and so far she is sure right. When I got up and saw the -2 temperature this morning I knew Hell had frozen over.

It's great to see some old friends back again!

Mondays through Wednesdays I'm at school, so I guess I'll be posting just on the other days.

We're getting ready to move up closer to DH's work soon. It also happens to be near where some of our friends with babies and children live, so that will be helpful in the future with baby-sitting etc.

Company is still here. Boy, she LOVES to talk! My ears are about to fall off from listening (but I have learned LOTS, especially about certain family members). LOL!

But as soon as she leaves (tomorrow?), I'm getting out my Flylady book and will try to get back on the wagon!!

But for now, it's noon and I need to clean up the breakfast dishes in the kitchen (we had waffles, but not til about 10:30).

We're off for an overnight at a hotel with swimming pool (oh, and a 36-hour scrap event!). Just peeking in to say hi to Jo and Jamielea. So nice to see you!

Our homeschooling is going great, thanks. DD7 was at Physics Circus at the University today. I said, "Well, do you think you'll be a physics professor when you grow up?" DD: "maybe." Gotta get her to do a little math before we head out. (I want to keep her moving in math so we can start having more fun with science.)

Hi Jackie! You're doing great! I love doing the Zones too, though I just make up my own since I don't get the emails. Like - 15 minutes cleaning the frig or wiping down counters or cleaning a drawer or weeding through a pile of papers. 15 minutes goes by pretty quickly and you can get a lot done. It really gives me a feeling of accomplishment.

The cold weather is on its way here this week! I haven't even had to put a snowsuit on Lucas yet. I am so not looking forward to that! I would like to see some snow though...

I FINALLY got our closets organized yesterday. I am so proud of my work I hope I can keep it this way. When we had our new bedroom added on he built me amazing walk in closets. I love how much room I have. Its so much easier to get organized with the right space. I will have to remind myself how much i love my new closets when I pay my home equity bill this month

Someone at work last night said we're supposed to get a snowstorm on Friday here. But this will be the 4th snowstorm that is supposed to hit this year and I have only seen flurries for about 5 minutes before it stopped. We'll see...

Yesterday I had to deal with sicko DF, and DSs before I went to work so I got NOTHING done.

Today's TADAs:
- Cleaned up my major hot spot
- Cleaned up all the shredded paper towels from the dog and cat that were everywhere on the floor (look like it snowed in here!)
- Vacuumed under the dining table
- Vacuumed the living room
- 2 loads laundry

- Go to work
- Sort some bills when I come home from work (15 minutes only since it will be midnight!)

I'm so glad I'm off tomorrow, this place is a disaster area! I haven't shined my sink in 3 days! (shhh don't tell... )

Baby is due March 12 but likely to come a little before then. Because of my history they don't want me to go past the due date (which I agree on).

Haven't gotten much done today, we met a friend for brunch up in West Hollywood and it took forever to get up there, get seated, eat, and get home. Then I took a nap!

-install Acrobat on DH's computer
-straighten up the living room some more-- it's getting gradually better, and by the time we move, it should look great!!
-wash dishes
-make dinner
-work some more on the baby blanket

I should do laundry but we're out of quarters. And I should do homework but I don't feel like it!

Becky, I thought your due date was later than that. Glad it's almost right around the corner!!

Jessica, down here in New Mexico, we have had two ice storms and 1 big snow so far (well, 4-6 inches).

Company still here. She was talking about leaving today, but then she and DH stayed up ALL NIGHT talking. She is still wide awake, but DH had to go to bed at 8am. LOL! So, I'm betting she won't leave til tomorrow.

* Worked 8-3 and didn't even blow up at my employers (they are crazy -- Friday meeting we had we were basically hollered at to get production up, but told in the same breath that they were not spending a dime to advertise, give us "goodies" to take to people who can send us referrals! I'm just trying to stick it out until we have ourselves in a great financial position)
* Straightened up house when I got home; still have a good bit of that to do
* Laundry-still working on that, too
* Went to grocery store
* Got dinner started (will be ready in 30 minutes)
* Checked DD's homework from Friday and got her backpack ready for tomorrow
* Checked weather for the week
* Put out 4 outfits for DD; she gets to choose one each day; gives her some responsibility & makes her feel grown up
* Loaded dishwasher & wiped down counters
* Made menu plan for the week
* Got our budget worked out

PODA (some will be this week; not just tonight):

* Find budgeting software appropriate for a family
* Work on chapters 3 & 4 for next Sunday evening

We have had so much rain I think my house will float away! It stopped long enough to walk and that's about it. DD has her 1st ear infection. She will be six in April. Dr impressed that neither one of my kids has ever had strep and that DD has avoided ear infections til this weekend! Just luck I am sure, although i am always on them to wash their hands a zillion times a day!!

Busy week ahead then 3 day weekend for DS
May have a "date" with him Friday while he is off and DD has school. Will see what he would like to do.

* Made to-do list for the day
* Made a pitcher of sweet tea & a pitcher of kool-aid
* Made a Wal-Mart run for laundry detergent & fabric softener

DD's TADA:

* Chose outfit from pre-selected outfits on her door hooks
* Dressed herself down to shoes
* Ate good breakfast and took vitamins/meds
* Quietly watched t.v. until time to leave & while Mommy worked in house
* Washed face, brushed teeth and brushed hair

She still needs to add make her own bed, but hey the fact that she did all of that without complaining and whining is a BIG step, gals!

My PODA:

* Pick up DD and take her to basketball practice
* Help DD with schoolwork & reading tonight
* Make sides for chicken - green beans, new potatoes
* Do more laundry (of course!)
* Try to straighten up some more assuming DH gets rest of Christmas decor boxes out of the way!
