The New Homemaker Newsletter for December 01, 2008

Dear Readers,

I thought I'd better put a newsletter out before the end of the year. Before I get going, I want to tell you that the Cinnamon Bear radio series from 1937 is available at TNH. I've been posting an episode a day; we're on episode 19 today. Go to the archives to find all of the episodes I've posted so far. My girls are loving them, and perhaps your children would enjoy the story, too.

Josie says Happy Holidays! Are you ready for the holidays, whichever one(s) you celebrate? John and I think we're ready, but of course something will happen between now and Solstice I'd bet. We got each other a practical present--flannel sheets we were going to buy anyway--and got the girls a special present we really can't afford but that they'll outgrow soon and they really want. (I'll tell you after the holidays; Josie is starting to read here!)

Tonight the world is coming to an end: John is going to church with us. :) He cannot escape the gravitational pull of the annual Celebration of Light pageant. Bet you didn't know Unitarians have pageants. I didn't, at least. Both Josie and Lou are in it; Josie is a candle-lighter for the Hannukah and Kwanzaa sections, plays Joseph in the Christmas section, and plays the demon who steals the sun in the Diwali section (I think it's Diwali!), and Lou is Gabriel in the Christmas section and a bunch of other non-speaking parts I can't remember what. Pictures shall be taken.

LouLou says Happy Holidays!I'm ending the year amazed at all the knitting I've gotten done--16 different things, including a lap robe, a sweater vest and a sweater. At the rate I'm going I may even have another scarf done before the end of the year. This is a personal best by far; I don't think I've ever sent more things flying off the needles.

It's nice to have something cheerful like that to look back on for 2006. This has been hands-down the most difficult year of my life and I won't be sad to put it behind me. Every moment of life I have now since I died on Mother's Day is a gift, but until recently it's been a difficult gift to appreciate. I met with my new cardiologist on Monday, started cardiac rehabilitation on Tuesday, and got cleared to drive again on Thursday. For the first time in a while I feel hopeful that I might get a semblance of my old life back--possibly even a better one.

I want to thank all of you again for the good wishes and support. Those of you who sent blanket squares: I still use my blankie every night, in fact I fell asleep in front of the TV the other night and woke to find Josie spreading it over me. In fact, I have it on my lap right now. And I think of you all, and I thank you again.
