Description
Ingredients
- 2 c whole wheat flour (fresh ground is best!)
- 2 c oats, ground to flour in blender
- 1 c shortening ( I use the new Smart Balance one)
- 1 c brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 c sour milk
- 3 c dates
- 1 c water
- 2 c whole wheat flour (fresh ground is best!)
- 2 c oats, ground to flour in blender
- 1 c shortening ( I use the new Smart Balance one)
- 1 c brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 c sour milk
- 3 c dates
- 1 c water
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350. Blend shortening and Bsugar together. Add dry ingredients. Add milk till dough forms, you may need more than 1/2 C.
Spread 1/2 of dough in 13X9 pan. Puree dates and water in blender. Spread date mixture on dough. Pinch off pieces of the other half of the dough and drop it all over the top of date mixture. Flatten a bit with palm. Bake for 20 min, or til top is golden. Cut into bars. Yummmmmm.
Notes
I LOVE these cookies. Sometimes we make them "oreo" style, and roll the dough out and cut it, bake as individual cookies, and boil that pureed dates for a bit, and use it as the filling. The whole grains and dates are just so wholesome and taste so good!! My family snarfs them, and they are always a hit at parties, even among those who don't do the "whole grain thing".
