PDAs anyone?

Ok gals. Who has a PDA? What kind do you have, what features does it have? Does it work well with Flylady (most importantly, does it have something I can list my daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, then check them off the list when they are done. And will it recur automatically every day/week/month).

I guess what I want is something I can list my flylady chores (routines and zones), my menus for the week, make a grocery list and a todo list.

Come on now, Christmas is coming and everything I want is way too expensive (everything I really want is gutting and remodeling my kitchen and turning the garage into a livable room. And I can't afford either).

No PDA...tried it though...

Submitted by Jilsyt on Sat, 11/18/2006 - 5:22pm.

I did have a PDA, but then found myself STILL using a paper to-do list, even though there was a to-do list function. I'm very visual, and the little dinky PDA was just not IN MY FACE enough to remind me. So, I invested in a Franklin Covey paper planner and LOVE it. I can put my todo list, and a schedule on the same page, and I have room to write other notes or lists. Works great.

come on, no one has any

come on, no one has any experience with a PDA!?

Jylst, I have a planner I like. From a lady named Amy Kropf? Something like that. I love the way it is set up. It's weekly and one side has a place to list todos and a grocery list, the other with your weekly events and a place to plan your menus. It's very cool. I just can't read my handwriting half the time. LOL!

I have an HP iPAC

Submitted by jamielea on Mon, 11/20/2006 - 6:14pm.

I've had it for a few years and the only thing I've ever used it for was to connect to the internet in SC when Trey's laptop broke! Fred bought it when he thought he was going to be deployed and then gave it to me when he didn't have to go. I've played with trying to keep lists and addresses and stuff but I still find myself using good 'ol paper and pen the most. It does have a cammera that I think I used once. Laughing out loud
I say skip the PDA and get you a nice gift certificate for a massage or something very pampering like that Smiling

Would you believe I have

Would you believe I have never had a massage? I don't know how I would like someone else's hands rubbing my body. LOL! I had my first pedicure this last summer and it was nice, but I seldom wear sandles. I'm such a boot person. LOL!

Ok that's two strikes. Shaun, don't you have one of these things? Andrea?

you will like it just fine

Trust me. Smiling If you're really squeamish, you can get massaged through sheets or even your clothes. But honestly, once your body gets a sense of how good it feels, you won't care. There's nothing sexual about it. Start with a foot or leg massage. This is where I like to go for that.

PDA

Jenny,
I've never had a PDA but am kind of intrigued by the idea. My system is very old-fashioned and actually works pretty well for me. I use a month at a glance spiral bound calendar with fairly big squares. And then my grocery lists and to do lists go on small pieces of notepaper (not post-its). I usually place the lists right in the calendar so it's all together. The only thing is, it's not portable, so I can't use it when I'm out and about.

try it once

when I turned 29 (holy cow, 5 years ago!) Jawdropping!
dh paid to have a lady come here to the house and bring her table, we did it upstiars in my bedroom so when she finished I just rolled off the table and into my bed Big grin
There's a lady in our homeschool group who brings her chair to the park and for $15 she'll do 15 min. Savannah wont let me do that anymore but when she was a baby I got one everytime she was at the park.
I think you'll love it.

Had is the word

Yes, I had a PDA and I tired to use it but it just didn't work for me. Mainly, the thing blew through the batteries so half the time it was nonfunctional, and then I'd have to get up to date for all the time missed when it was dead.

Also, I tend to live on my computer, so I just have everything on there anyway.

But hey, it might be different for you. You can set up ongoing tasks to check off, which is a plus. (I do something similar with iCal on my computer.)

Re: massage. I never thought I'd be a massage person, but I did get one as a gift so I tried it when I was preg. with DD3. I am not typically naked except in my own bedroom, so I wore a minimal amount of clothing and it was fine. I would like to do it again someday!

A very expensive address book!

Submitted by KellyA on Wed, 11/22/2006 - 6:37am.

I like mine for what I use it for (addresses and important numbers) but feel like I haven't harnessed its full potential. It's handy to pull out at the doctor's office, SS#'s, shot records, prescriptions all there in one place.

Otherwise I find it to be more of a pain. I write faster than I click with a stylus. Adding to the grocery list means digging it out of the purse, clicking around to get to the list, clicking my item, saving...once I am at the store I have to push the cart, grab the items off the shelves and use two hands to hold and click, plus keeping DD away from the electronic, she goes nuts when she sees the stylus. Same problem with calendaring. It's just not that efficient for me. Maybe if my job had me sitting with two hands free I'd use it more.

I do dig the games I've loaded on it though. Smiling

Loved mine!

Submitted by lgunnoe on Wed, 11/22/2006 - 8:16am.

(notice the past-tense) but I, too have gone back to PC-and-paper. I had an HP Jordana for years, but then the rechargable battery died (post warranty) and I never had it replaced. It did last for 3 1/2 years of pretty steady use, and I suppose most people would "upgrade" to a newer model sooner than that. Mine would sync to my Outlook calendar on the pc, which I loved! I'm still using Outlook....but I'm back to printing my calendar pages for my (paper)planner.

Honestly, I missed mine TERRIBLY when first quit using it. I had gotten used to NOT hauling around a paper planner...LOVED the calendar alarm...I'd set it to beep to remind me what to take out of the freezer for dinner...things like that!

I never tried to shop with it, though...I kept menu plans and the grocery list on it, but printed a list for the store. I never could get completely rid of my paper-planner, though it did stay at home most of the time....I still needed a place to stuff receipts, etc. I was a hybrid-user, I guess!

Somebody.....Mike G or JJ, once linked to instructions for setting up recurring tasks (like flylady's), grocery lists etc.....anybody remember that?

I use my phone

Submitted by Kerri on Wed, 11/22/2006 - 10:32am.

it's very basic and generally considered to be an antique by those around me, but it has a reminders function with an alarm which is THE best. I've been considering the PDA possibility for years now, but I think I wouldn't really get much use out of it. DH has a phone which does the whole email, Microsoft thing, but he's on his 3rd stylus in less than a year and it's awful for making phone calls on.

meanwhile I love my phone and alarm because it fits in my pocket so I haven't always left it somewhere!

Kerri.
