What's wrong with my ankle? Any ideas?

Submitted by Honey on Mon, 09/25/2006 - 1:10pm.

Three weeks ago I slipped while going up the stairs at home. I banged my right leg hard just below the knee. There wasn't much pain, but the leg bruised all the way down the front of my shin. My knee now makes horrible crunching noises when I climb stairs (I think it's called crepitus).

A week later, I spent a day shopping with DS15 in London and was on my feet for about seven hours. That evening I noticed the inside of my ankle was swollen and bruised. I was not aware of having injured my foot at all.

I went to the doctor, who said the ankle bruising and swelling would not be anything to do with the knee injury the week before. He said I must have injured my ankle without realising it, and had bruised too easily. He sent me for a blood test to ensure I have enough platelets in my blood and that it's clotting properly or something.

The blood test result is back and there is no problem with my blood. In the meantime, though the bruising is gone, the swelling (which did go down a bit for a while) is worse, and is on both sides of my ankle now. I also still have the crunching knee noises (which the doctor said would probably pass) and slight aching and tenderness on the left side of my shin.

I have made another appointment with the doctor for Wednesday, but I just wondered if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be? I like to go the doctor armed with information if I can Smiling

Thanks

Honey

But a suggestion: Homeopathic arnica. Either arnica gel or homeopathic tablets. Cheap and very effective.

aloe vera or witch hazel are two more natural remedies and Nurofen type meds if it's really swollen and the others don't help, especially before bed so it's reasonable in the morning and doesn't keep you awake.

Check the internet... like you say, it's always best to go armed with info or they pretty much dismiss most things they can't solve immediately! I'm late for making dinner, but I'll probably check into later, see if I can come up with anything.

Are you sure you didn't

Are you sure you didn't sprain it? Last year I took a hard step at the base of our apartment stairs and tore a couple of ligaments in my ankle-- hurt MUCH worse than anything I've ever experienced, including childbirth.

I second the arnica-- it works wonders!

Healthy healing...
