A Postcard from Paris

Today I got a postcard in the mailbox from Paris.

Sigh.

My mother works for SIFE and got to go as a worker bee to their World Cup event in Paris.

She was able to escape the convention center for a few hours the evening before she arrived and the evening before she left.

The subject of her postcard was her first sightseeing excursion--she had a walk about down the Champs Elysee to the Arc de Triomphe and had dinner at a little bistro. She said, of course, "wish you were here" and that we would have had a blast, which I do not doubt for a moment.

Then I got a call this evening, she's home safe and sound and beyond exhaustion, but I got to hear more about the trip.

The SIFE team from China won the World Cup. Their work was with people with disabilities. Amazing stuff.

The night before she left she went to the Pont Neuf and took a boat ride up and down the Seine. At one point she went to the Eiffel Tower but I can't remember when.

If I had money enough to spend and leisure time to sit awhile, I'd take my mom back to Paris for a real vacation. Then we'd go to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. Then anywhere else she wanted. There are still a few continents that she hasn't been to yet (her dad was in the Air Force, she saw the world before the age of nine. Well, the Philippines, Turkey, and Europe, anyway.)

It seems silly I guess but I feel like I was in Paris with her in spirit. Mostly I envision her walking (or sitting in a cafe) alongside the Seine and photoshopping myself in there with her.

Maybe one day. We would have a blast!
