Help me!

Submitted by Shaun on Mon, 08/14/2006 - 9:25am.

Just got word from DH that his parents have been unable to find a hotel and they are staying with us!

Which, I had invited them to do, but when they said no I did not worry about pouring on the steam for cleaning up the place.

The good news -- I have 11 days before they come.

The bad news -- I have 2 deadlines and a 6-day trip out of town before they come.

Our house is really at a low point -- homeschooling plus my increased workload has not been kind to my flying habits.

Luckily I cleaned up our bedroom pretty thoroughly yesterday -- plenty of clutter, but under the bed is squeaky clean! -- and that's where we'll put them, so that's one thing down, about 4,999 to go!

They can't find a hotel in

Submitted by Andrea on Mon, 08/14/2006 - 9:32am.

They can't find a hotel in all of the Twin Cities?! That is hard to believe. My DH and DS9 found one in Minneapolis last week with no problem! Anyway, sounds like they are with you no matter what. I don't have any great suggestions, just don't sweat the small stuff.

Got back from my Dr. appointments in the city and am now having lunch. I also managed to grocery shop and take my garage sale stuff to the church. I may try to finish up the basement today as much as I can and possibly mop the kitchen.

Morning. Or afternoon, I should say. LOL!

I invited myself some company tonight, so I HAVE to get the house clean! LOL! Got both bathrooms done, still need to vacuum and mop. LR isn't too bad. I threw most of DH's music stuff out into the garage. Used the excuse that now that Drew is crawling and pulling up on everything, I have to put it out there for a while.

I'm such a sucker for disaster movies. EarthQuake in NYC on USA today. LOL! Good background noise. LOL! There goes the Statue of Liberty! OHNO!!

Oh, didn't mention that I only have one kid today. The other three stayed the night at the inlaws. Some peace and quiet. School starts officially next Monday (I say officially because it really starts Friday, but it's just a come in and register day).

DH had a tractor bucket full of steel chains fall on his foot early Saturday morning. He has a "severe crushing injury and open fracture of the fifth metatarsal." We go tomorrow to see the orthopedic surgeon, and they told us when we left the ER to plan on surgery on Wednesday.

However, being home with him did allow me to get a bit done.

Soccer starts today-yippee! This means the boys will be back on a schedule which forces them to go to bed early (6am practices!) and tires them out, so less energy for bothering others.

Shaun, all I have to say is Yikes!

Jenny, gotta love the company cleaning! Smiling

Whatcha doing in the basement Andrea? Or did you already say and I missed it?

Jenny-only 1 kid??? Great! Is Chance going to preschool this year? Then you'll have some days with just Drew?

School starts in a week here. Ds will start at 7:30 and be home around 3pm. DD will start at 8:30 and be home around 2:30pm. I am half looking foward to it and half sad that DD days at home are over. But I will be up at both schools often and now can join a gym to exercise during the day. Looking foward to that.

Better go....

Slowly making progress

Submitted by Shaun on Tue, 08/15/2006 - 9:16am.

I've worked on our bedroom some more today -- I need to clear a few more surfaces. Something has happened in our family that we have suddenly seen a giant influx of books for everyone -- especially DD7 and DH. But me too, I suppose. Anyway, it is totally overwhelming!

Gotta spend some time in my office so we have a place to sleep, and keep plugging on that freelance project so I can get paid.

And I failed to say no to someone who asked me to help facilitate a discussion group tonight at church. Well, this is a lesson to me -- Just Say No!! I so don't want to go -- but I will.

Heidi, we are going to South Dakota to stay with my mom -- always a good time, esp. for the kids.

Jo -- jeez, hope that foot recovers!

Hey Everyone!

Yes Heidi, the basement is about done. Jo, FYI I have been decluttering slowly around the periphery. We have exercise stuff in the middle. It is unfinished - cinder block walls, cement floor, but I could not do without my basement. Laundry and storage are down there plus a makeshift pantry for canned goods, etc. All that is left is to buy a couple more Sterilite bins for toys wer are keeping, etc.

Today was crazy - worked in the am, met DD and DH and switched cars, took DD to the city for her appointment with the neurology clinic, which turns out to be next week! So we did her school shopping instead! I am beat. She got all "boy" stuff - go figure.

No flying to speak of today besides laundry and cooking.

See ya tomorrow - waves to all!

time for change

Submitted by jennye on Tue, 08/15/2006 - 2:08pm.

Heidi, yes, Chance will probably be starting preschool this year. It's everyday (Mon-Thurs) all day, same schedule as the girls. And it will be just me and Drew! I just can't believe that Chance will be 4 next month!

Shaun, I think the books are either breeding or throwing up around here, too. But they're books. I just can't justify getting rid of any! LOL!

I made a pound cake this morning to take to a cookout this evening. All the school faculty. Since I'm sleeping with a board member, I get to go. LOL! Also having another cookout on Friday, it's our annual Watermelon Welcome. All the students, parents and teachers gather at the big tree behind the school. The cheerleaders sell hamburgers and cokes, and will have a cake auction afterwards to raise money for uniforms. I need to see if I can make some cakes for them. Last year I made two and they brought $110 each. It's also all you can eat free watermelon. Anyone want to go to my school? LOL!

I think I'm going to move Drew's crib and stuff into Chance's room. I mean, he doesn't sleep in it anyway, and we would like the office back to being, well, just not a bedroom anymore. I'll have to think on it some more. But I'll probably do that soon.

TADA:
*cake made
*kitchen clean
*had girls try on all jeans to see what fit
*went thru a bag DH brought home from a friend w/ clothes for DD9. LOTS of cool stuff, and 2 pairs of boots (great, because she had outgrown hers)
*all bills paid! BIG TADA! AND put in mailbox (the driveway is REAL muddy from rain and from DH doing a bunch of work on it. His BIG tada is removing and cleaning out the cattle guard. Now he has to do some welding. We are planning on turning the cows loose around the house. Gotta watch that bull. LOL!)

Ok, time to go. Sorry, I rambled, didn't I?

Wow, you got a lot accomplished Jenny! I like the cake auction idea. How much fun! I didn't realize Chance was going to PS this year, but I guess it makes sense. I hope you will get some more time to do your own projects now!

Dinner is done, dishes are done. DS and DH went to the park where DS is meeting up with his buddies for a kickball game. DD was outside with the neighbors and is now chilling out in front of the TV. I am regrouping from my day - it seems like we've had more than our usual share of stress lately with our vacation and family stuff going on, then we got back and had some unexpected car bills for our van which we are about to get rid of anyway! Plus DH is stressing about work stuff - fortunately I am done working for the summer pretty much so I can pick up more of the slack at home -

Jo - I forgot to say that is a bummer about DH - hope the surgery goes smoothly if he has it!

Howdy guys

Submitted by Shaun on Wed, 08/16/2006 - 10:13am.

Mmm, cake auction. I can remember making pies for a pie auction at my church as a teen. I can also remember that I boy I liked bought one! How is that for romance country-style?!

Good news! BIL used his corporate discount rates to find the ILs a hotel for their stay! (The fair starts in just 9 days, the day before they come, so weekend rates especially are very high and spots are tight.) I really would not mind them staying here -- it's nicer in a way -- but getting my office ready for us to sleep in would be a massive job even if I weren't going out of town. The rest of the house, obviously, has to be presentable either way. And I know they will be more comfortable -- we just can't offer privacy or room to spread out your stuff for a week.

So, I can concentrate on figuring out meals, fun stuff to do, and getting the rest of the house neatened and let my office be its messy self.

Happy hump day to you all!

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 08/16/2006 - 12:07pm.

I got all of the baby's stuff moved into DS3 room. Now they are sharing a room. Yikes. But, I have a now messy hobby room/office to get going on. I took apart and reassembled the crib, and moved the changing table and dresser. Then I got busy on the yard. I had to rig up a way to fix a part on the mower, and got all the yard mowed, and a good chunk of a section outside the yard before the piece broke off again. Rather than trying to fix it up again, I called it a day (Drew had fallen asleep on my lap, anyway), came inside, and ordered a new part to replace it. It's a shield and I will not run the mower without it. Besides, a huge rainstorm is imminent. I'm pleased with what I got done.

DH took DS3 to town with him. They should be back soon. I should work on the office.

DH is in a cast for four weeks to see if the bones will heal on their own. The doctor doesn't expect them to because of where the break is and the way it happened, but wants to take the conservative route. DH is not supposed to put any weight on it but is here at work on his crutches. Grrrrr. I told him if that's what he's going to do he may as well just schedule the surgey now rather than wasting the 4 weeks not even giving it a chance to heal, and then he got mad. Fun, fun, fun. Plus, he's in pain, so I get the brunt of that crabbiness too. Hmph.

Submitted by Andrea on Wed, 08/16/2006 - 4:57pm.

Hi all -

Lovely, Jo - my sympathy goes out to you. My DH can get in a real snit about stuff too. I hope you like the Wilson training - teachers at our school are using it - in fact I had a student yesterday who I was testing using some of the methods to make his way through my reading test! It was pretty neat!

Jenny, you are doing some major rearranging - wow! My DDy wants to move into our guest room, which is bigger. This will be a BIG undertaking but she really wants it.

I did get the two bins today and pretty much finished the basement. It looks good. One of the bins is full of my old scrapbooks and photo album from when I was young - up till college age and beyond. There is so much stuff! Who really cares about this stuff - I feel like I should weed throught it. At least it is in a bin for now - save it for a rainy day.

Well, I'm beat - see ya later -

Submitted by jennye on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 8:21am.

I feel really lazy today.

Jo, I meant to say earlier that I'm sorry about your dh's foot. OUCH! Hope that the cast does the job and won't be a wasted 4 weeks.

In the meantime, think of how much stuff you can get done with 3 in school! When Drew starts, I'm planning on going back to school and finishing my teaching degree and probably my masters too, while I'm at it. Then I may or may not use them right away!

Can school start today? The fighting and bickering is driving me nuts! LOL!

Like I said, lazy today. Don't know if I'll decide to do much or not. MR is done, anyway. It's usually town day, but not sure I even want to do that.

Jenny, you deserve a lazy day...

Shaun, isn't it a bummer when church stuff is so depressing?! I am gradually getting more involved in our church with committees, etc. and I'm hoping I'm not making a mistake. I tend to shy away from that stuff for my own sanity!

Well, the extended playdate went well - 7 hours. Everyone got along great and I actually was able to fly. Decluttered 6 shopping bags of toys from DD7's room stuffed animals, Barbies, and such. Hanging on to the the special ones of course. Also ran and unloaded the dw 2X and did 2 loads of laundry. And other stuff - can't remember what! Oh - figured out the computer problem - the display was upside down for God's sake! Wiped down kitchen and dining room tables. Set up projects for kids, etc. Did some cleaning in garage. That's about it - enuf for today -

Andrea, you are so much stronger than I! I have such a hard time getting rid of toys.

Got the kids registered/tested for school. Girls were just registration day. Chance had to be tested, but no worries, he did bad enough that they will 99% let him in. LOL! Yeah for Chance doing bad! LOL! Anyway, was at the school from 8:30 til 1:30 doing that. Finally got away to go to the grocery store and had lunch at Sonic. Rushed home, fed the baby, put together a cake and put away groceries while it is in the oven.

Still need to frost the cake, find something to put it on, and go to the Watermelon Welcome at school.

Well, need to clean up the kitchen, clean up, and go!
