And they burned their instruments, too. The fifteen unnamed women were responsible, the government thinks, for up to a third of the so-called operations in their part of Sierra Leone. The procedure is truly horrific. There's a worldwide campaign to end this practice, and that these fifteen African women are abandoning their trade gives me hope that some day the women in these "traditional" cultures will some day be free of it entirely.
