I'm so blue....(that's from the ice cubes)

I've been guzzing ice water and am eating ice cream with an ice pack tied around my neck as I type this (Ben & Jerry's Vermonty Python, very good). This heat is insane, it's not supposed to get this hot, that's why I moved out here.

Last night the coolest it got was around 82 degrees, it usually cools off into the 60s at night, that's how I get the house cooled down. I had to sleep on the futon in the TV room downstairs last night.

I think I'm going to float in the kiddie pool for a while after I finish cleaning up the mess that is the downstairs carpet. You don't want to know.

Then I'll finish up in DD's room, paint the hallway, then soak in the kiddie pool again.

Yes, I chose to paint DD's room and the hallway during our little heat wave. I've been painting at night and sleeping during the day. How can I do this? DD and DH are out of town visiting his folks. Which is why I'm painting...hopefully the worst of the fumes will be gone in DD's room before her return on Tuesday.

I'm doing her room in two colors with a wallpaper border. Dusky rose for the first four feet, the wallpaper border is beautiful illustrations of fairy tales, then a silvery white above to the ceiling. It's turned out really nice, all that's left is me getting the wallpaper border up and putting the room back to rights. I also got a new set of sheets and blanket for the bed for summer. This is all a surprise for DD, she doesn't know I'm doing this. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that she's going to like it.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get the dining room painted before they get back, which is fine, I'll need DH's help for that anyway, painting over the stairwell is not something I'm willing to do, I just know I'd break my neck.

But I've geared up to paint the kitchen, dining room, and hall which I've wanted to do since we moved in two summers ago. The hallway and dining room are getting a pale orange color (Orange Champagne) with two darker orange accent colors on the east and west walls of the dining room, and the kitchen is going to get a pale tint in the apple green color. I still need to get the paint for the kitchen, but I'm waiting till DH gets back for that for several reasons, one of which is that he promised he'd tape and mud the new wall between the kitchen and entryway (you may remember the pic of the studs from last September?) then I can paint it.

I feel like I'm starting to get the house closer to how I want it, but the heatwave is really cramping my style. I haven't been able to do more in the garden than weed, water, and pull carrots (yum) and precious little in the house besides the home improvement above. Lawn needs mowed, which I'm not going to do, the roses need pruning, the flower beds need weeding and mulch, etc., etc. Much of it'll have to wait for cooler weather.

At least I've got the basement.

Painting, go you!

Good for you for all the painting! I know when we moved in 3 years ago there was a flurry of painting, about half the house got done, and then...nothing. For another year at least. Guess I got burned out on it. We finally painted the guest room last fall, and we still need to paint the dining room, the last small bedroom, and the three bathrooms. Your daughter's room sounds lovely--nice choices! Smiling

Good luck with the heat. It's been terrible here, too, but the air conditioning is keeping our house livable. I've been hiding out, and the front flowerbeds definitely show it. Oh well.
