Back From the Lake

Submitted by witchiepoo on Mon, 07/10/2006 - 5:23am.

And not quite sure how to make the camping vacation cleanup mesh with the great flying I had going on before we left. Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure something out!

Flyfriends, I wish you could see me. I have a real, live, actual tan. This is a big, big deal for a fair skinned, blue-eyed blonde. I hide from the sun because of how I burn, so this must have happened while I cooked breakfast over the fire, walked from campsite to campsite, and the two times I waterskied. A new look for me, for sure.

TADA
got the camper mostly unloaded
5 loads of laundry done
caught up on mail

PODA
clean and re-load camper with the stuff that lives in there
move it down by the pumpkins
keep plugging at the laundry
take DD to her pre-op appointment
meal plan
groceries
put away stuff cluttering the dining room from trip that doesn't live there
organize to catch up at the office
evening routine tonight

Have a merry Monday!

Hi Jo, I'm pretty new here at new homemakers, been viewing it for quite sometime but just now decided to join for real. I do hope your flying is doing great, remember what flylady says about you not really falling behind and keep plugging the flying, I've been a flyer for about 3 years or so. It's great once you become one with your wings!!! I hope to make lots of friends here, I'm sure I'm much older than you all, and have been a homemaker for 24 years, but I'm sure you can all still teach me a thing or too. Blessings, Elli

Suntans

Santans are pretty, Jo. Sure wish they were safe enough to do every year. Enjoy the one you have!

This week is Vacation Bible School. I love Vacation Bible School. Really. I do.

I cannot find the new hinges for my kitchen cabinets to match the new handles. I am quite bummed, because the old hinges are 45 years old and look grungy and are the wrong color. I hate to have to put them back on. The cut of the edge of the door requires a particular angle on the hinge -- one they don't seem to have made for decades.

An unplanned town day. I'm going in to get my oil changed in the truck and look at new and used Suburbans. Yeah, I know. I'm a bit bummed that Ford quit making Excursions. And they have nothing to replace it. Which is why I'm looking at Chevys.

so not much flying today.

Restoration Hardware

Submitted by LoisDenominator on Mon, 07/10/2006 - 11:38am.

I went to Restoration Hardware, and out here they carry bath towels, tablecloths, etc. The only hardware they had was some cabinet handles and curtain rods. It was really a home decorating store. Even Great Indoors didn't have them.

VBS

Submitted by LoisDenominator on Mon, 07/10/2006 - 7:25pm.

We only had a few kids show up to Bible School. We didn't know how many would come -- we just moved our church to this location. Sadly, we got a very disappointing turnout. The twin boys in my K class lost their grandma in a car accident over the weekend, so they were very subdued and didn't participate much. Then I came home and took a nap until the phone rang. And that was my entire day!

Getting There

Submitted by witchiepoo on Tue, 07/11/2006 - 5:18am.

I sat down and re-read the first couple of chapters of Sink Reflections to remind me that baby steps worked before the vacation, and they will work again now. Then, everytime I passed something that was not where it was supposed to be, I put it away. Things are about 2/3 of the way back to normal! Smiling

Yeah, Jo. And you are schoolteacher? LOL!

Sorry about the low VBS turnout, Lois. We ditched ours this year, sadly. It was the same week as swim lessons, and I just couldn't drive back to town everyday for a week (our VBS is in the evenings, swim lessons were in the morning). I know the kids missed it. But with diesel at 3.05/gallon, I just couldn't justify it.

I looked around at the Suburbans yesterday. Well, at one. The only new one that was a 3/4 ton and 4x4 in two counties. Lots of buttons, bells and whistles. Sure, would be nice to have. At only $43,000!!! nope, I don't think so. But it was nice. I have a used one in mind, though. If only the people were home for me to go check it out!

Yesterday I did get my oil changed and new running boards put on (I broke mine last year 4-wheeling). Got home just in time to fix dinner for company. Then collapsed in bed when I was able to talk the kids into going (about 10:30).

DH is depressed, hay isn't up yet. Vacation on hold, that sux. Going to try to catch up some around here.

Hi there! Im a new FLYbaby from BC, Canada, and i was surfing the web and found this FLYBABY forum!!! Mind if i join you all?? Everyone around home is definately NOT so interested in my new found wings (except my dh, who of course likes the fact that he doesnt need to move clutter before eating at the table!!) I am a SAHM of 3 ds's aged 9, 5 and 1, and my big son (DH!!) anyways i wasnt sure if this is a closed group. Let me know!!

Not a closed group at all -- but be warned! We don't always stick to the topic, and we don't always follow the rules. (Some of us even whine from time to time! Laughing out loud )

Water is off today, so not much is getting down house-wise. Check my TNH blog entry to see how my DH is trying to distract me!

Welcome to the group, Jenn!

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 07/12/2006 - 12:21pm.

Welcome to the group, Jenn! Yeah, we (er, I) tend to chat about off-topic stuff and whine from time to time. Hope you don't mind it! LOL!

Heidi, can I come over for ladies night? LOL! What all do you do for it?

Oh, shaun!! I'll comment over there. LOL!

I've gotten 2 loads of laundry done and stuck to the morning routine today. I've been working on finishing a quilt. It's my grandmother's birthday present, which was in April. LOL! Yeah, running late. But it's hand quilted, which is what took so long. All I have left to do is finish putting on the binding and I'll be done.

Also helped DH this morning with our financial worksheet for refinancing the trailer house (which we sold last year but owner financed). He also talked to the bank about financing me a new truck. Well, not NEW. Used. A 2000 GMC Yukon. Which they did with no problem. I'm happy, because I still get to keep my pickup. Yippee!! Bank said no problem and just whipped him out a check for it. Very cool (don'tcha love small town banks! No questions, no credit aps. Just here, have some money! LOL!). The owner dropped it off at the dealership to have a recall fixed on his way out of town to the lake. DH stopped by it and put our new plate on it, stopped by our insurance guy's office and got it insured. As soon as it's out of the shop (in about 30 minutes), we can go to town and get it. Bank said next time we are in town to bring them the title and copy of registration. How cool is that!?

I am serving pita and hummus, cheese and crackers, grapes, and raw veggies tonight on a table with candles and real linen napkins,oh my!

I did get the kids' rooms

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 07/15/2006 - 10:32am.

I did get the kids' rooms clean yesterday. DS3 wasn't too hard. I needed to vacuum, I don't have time to sort thru stuff yet. So I put everything in boxes under the bed. I know it's not flylady's way. But it's out of my way and contained. I'll go thru them one box at a time when I have time. the girls room is still bad, but the floor was picked up. Also did a couple loads of laundry and got all the bills done yesterday, too. And I got the OnStar activated in the Yukon and the DVD player hooked up in there (I have a two screened DVD player. Girls sit in the very back seat with a screen, the other in the middle seat for the boys.

Today I got the lawn mowed and the trash loaded in the pickup (it's been piling up in the garage). I'm going to drive down to the old insilage pit to dump it in a little bit. I have some more yard work I want to do, but not sure the baby is going to let me (he is CRANKY today! Teething, I think). I made DD9 go to work with DH today. They have 70 acres of hay to cut. hehehe! Work some of that sass out of her! LOL!

With a possible move pending, I know I need to start getting down and dirty about decluttering again. It's a Good Thing, as Martha would say. I will blog on TNH again about our latest home tour.

It is just roasting hot here today. Can't deal! I know you are thinking I'm a weenie Jenny, but you better believe we're going out for dinner on this, the hottest day in nearly 10 years. (Or so the forecast was, don't know if we really got there.) Oops, just checked, a record high for this day of the year. 100 may sound middling hot to you, Miss New Mexico, but throw in our increased humidity and YUCK!

Better go out soon -- I have a feeling we won't be the only ones with this bright idea.

I know where my laundry is, there are no dishes in my sink, the routines are going pretty darned well! I really notice the biggest difference so far with the swish & swipe of the bathroom after I shower. I just use my wet, dirty towel and do the sink and floor. That has made a huge difference in there. I love it. I even got a new (really pretty)shower curtain. I think it's almost time to jump into zones! Stand back everyone!

It's been in the high 90s and humid here since Friday. We are supposed to get a break tomorrow with severe thunderstorms. Of course, on the hottest 4 days since 2003 poor DD isn't allowed to swim. Sad

I've been busy doing

Submitted by jennye on Mon, 07/17/2006 - 4:35pm.

I've been busy doing laundry, packing, and a trip to town to change my oil. While there, I stumbled upon an error at the bank. MAJOR error. Like, a $30,000 error! Thank God I caught it before we left!

I need to do a few more things here, then we are ready to leave! Plan on leaving tomorrow late morning or early afternoon, barring no problems with DH cutting 30 acres of hay real quick.

Oh, other Jenn. I'm in the dry, arid desert of New Mexico. Very hot here. But we are driving to Georgia, where it will be hot AND humid! The nights here in NM actually get down to the low 70's or high 60's. And where we go camping it gets to the 40's (sometimes upper 30's!) at night. That is way in the mountains, though.

I'll try to stop by in the morning!

Wow, we have all been busy!

Jo, that is great about the routines working for you. Have to try that in my bathroom. I clean once a week in there, but the in between time is kinda gross with the kids and I using it. I do use the Clorox wipes. What kind of turkey are you grilling? Tenderloin, loin, something like that if I remember correctly?

Jenny, gosh that vacation came up quick, didn't realize you had decided to go. Hope it goes well and that it is somewhat relaxing for you. I have a similar family vacation coming up in August.

Shaun, good luck with the house hunting, haefvn't had a chance to post about that elsewhere. I can see you and your DH liking that lifestyle, but on the other hand I view you as more of a city person - you know the coffee shop, bookstore, nice restaurants closeby, etc. type of gal. Not to say you couldn't get through that!

Well, I've been flying pretty well when I'm not working at my job - I am going my way through the basement decluttering and cleaning. It's going well.

Catch you later -

Shaun-good attitude about the house situation. I tend to be the practical, reasoning one of the two as well. DH calls it pessimism, I call it realism, oh well...

Heidi, I just finished that book! I checked it out from the library too. It was pretty good, though the topic is tough to read about, like so many of hers. Haven't picked up anything new yet.

Working today so don't have much flying planned. DD7 has an EEG tomorrow in the city, as a result of a possible seizure she had last week while at rec. That ended up with 6 hours in the ER and a CAT scan, which was clear. So now we have to do this. She is supposed to sleep through it, so I am supposed to sleep deprive her. Should be interesting!

Submitted by Andrea on Tue, 07/18/2006 - 2:48pm.

HI Everyone!

That age difference is tough Heidi. I was 5 years older than my brother and remember that. Even with the 23 months between my two it gets hard. I find that if I let DS9 bring a friend along, it does help, or vice versa.

Jenn, thanks for your good wishes - they are very appreciated. By the way, after DS or DD, put their age, not birth order - heaven forbid that I would have 7 or 9 kiddos!! AAAARGH! Or Lenora 14 or 15! Good job on the gunk. I need to call a plumber tomorrow too - kitchen sink problems.

Hey Becky! I did get a movie for her, so we will watch that until 10 or 11. That is really the latest that I can stay up and be expected to function tomorrow! Then I will get her up at 5:00 or so. The hard part will be keeping her awake in the van on the ride to the city - which is about 40 minutes to the particular place we are going to.

Hey Everyone!

We are back! The procedure went well. No pain, as I was told. And she did actually doze for 10 minutes or so, which was enough for the tech. to get the "sleep time" brain waves that she needed. No results yet, we meet at the neurology clinic on August 15th to get those. But I guess I can call in a few days to check, which I will probably do. My gut feeling is that she just fainted, but some of her behaviors were "seizure like" enough to warrant some concern, even on my part. In the meantime, she is just a typical kid!

Hope to do some scrapping tonite. DD7 and I went to JoAnn's and got some new scrapping stickers, etc. so we hope to get some stuff done. She has her own book going and I am working on DS's. I also indulged her with some new clothes from Old Navy - she is into the tomboy look now, so that means denim cutoff shorts, an olive green tshirt, and flip flops. She wears a baseball cap with this outfit and has quite the grunge look going with her fine blond hair hanging out the back! Where did my flowery little girl in the pink dress go??? Sad

Bye guys -

Cooling off

Submitted by Shaun on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 6:52pm.

I actually felt like taking the dog for a walk while there was still some sunlight left! Big grin

You sound upbeat Andrea -- I hope that's how you feel. We'll all be glad to know how things turn out with your DD!

I'm not sure what I did today -- is that scary or what? Lessee

TADAs
Made healthy dinner
Shipped freelance project (yay!)
Whole foods run
Put away laundry
Started a new laundry cycle
unload/reload/run DW
Sorted bills/paperwork (ugh!)

That seems like enough to know that something happened today.

Hi to all!

Morning Everyone -

Yes, I am pretty upbeat about it Shaun, hopefully I'm not being naive.

Well, I have a doable PODA today I hope - I will post later with a TADA. It is warm here again, but I am really enjoying it. Having AC helps - I know I wouldn't feel the same way if we didn't have it.

I'm off to the store -

I'm glad the little one's proceedure went well, Andrea. I hope you get good news quickly!

My family went on vacation without me this morning. I stripped the wallpaper off the kitchen and bought some paint for the ceiling and walls. I wonder what other trouble I can get into in the next ten days.

Hi all -

Enjoy the trip Becky -

Hey Heidi - staying cool? Have you started The Tenth Circle? I'm curious, what type of speeches to what type of donors? Do you enjoy public speaking?

Nice to see you Lois! I can't imagine 10 days alone - sounds nice! Hope you get a lot done.

Well, I worked today - it went ok. What else did I do?

Walked on my lunch - almost 30 minutes
put away laundry DH had washed
took DS9 to birthday party sleepover
swam with DD7
?????????

Not real productive. Oh well. I called the neurology dept. at the hospital to get EEG results before August 15th, which is when our appointment is. It was a "normal" EEG which is good news. I guess it is not conclusive, meaning she still could have another seizure, but still good news. I am still not convinced she had one, but who knows? So we will go up on the 15th for another exam and hopefully it will end there. Thanks for all of your good thoughts!

Catch you later -

Andrea-I didn't get to read the book and it is only a one week loan since it is new. So I have to return it tomorrow and check it out another time. It was just too busy for me last week I guess. The speaking is at various workplaces talking about an agency similar to United Way and then talking about LDA and how it has impacted our life. The goal is donations or payroll deductions that would benefit various groups,LDA included.

Jenn-LDA stands for Learning Disabilities Association. I serve on the Board and have a son who has a reading disability, dyslexia.

Becky-glad you got to see BIL in time. Our heat wave has passed, should be in low 80's today only!

HI All - Just recovering

Submitted by Andrea on Sun, 07/23/2006 - 11:09am.

HI All -

Just recovering today from a dinner party we had last nite - 3 couples. I made chicken enchiladas - turned out good! Got to bed too late and with too much vino in me though.

Bummer about the book - try again during a less busy week. Good luck with the public speaking! I am set to start a work-related book you may be interested in. In fact you may have already heard of it and read it - Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz. It's supposed to be GREAT - one of the best on the topic.

That was a quick trip Becky!

Hi Elli and Jenn -

Well, I'm off -
