I put in 6 tomato plants and one pot each of chives, dill, basil, thyme, and rosemary in what is usually an annual flower bed under the kitchen window. I had to really enrich the soil first because it is the backfill of the house foundation (lots of sand), which I did with some organic composted cow manure.
I am really excited to have some fresh herbs and tomatoes this summer! I'm also very pleased with the way the window boxes came out. They have white geraniums, small-blossom purple hanging petunias, and bright red impatiens. It's a nice combination.
I have to pick up Dniece from kindergarten at 11 o'clock, so while the girls play this afternoon I will attack that PODA.
Becky, you should be used to packing and unpacking things by now! LOL! Just take it one box at a time.
I got the floor mopped in the kitchen and vacuumed in the LR/DR yesterday. 3 loads of laundry folded and ALMOST put away. It hit 104 yesterday, I did nothing outside but get the mail. LOL!
It's only been in the 80s and 90s here and I've been pretty hot. Actually we seem to get worse and worse at unpacking the more we move. It feels as though there's no point when we'll just have to pack it up again!
Thank you for the advice Anhata.
I have physical therapy today, so I have to be out a lot. Also we have an election today-- some state things that are not very contested, and then some more-interesting local elections. Mayor and stuff.

We're reading a very engrossing book, East Toward Dawn. I read on the deck in the perfect, sunny, 75 degree weather much of yesterday afternoon. Heavenly! I can't wait to see what everyone has to say tonight.
Today was DS graduation from Elementary followed by a breakfast for all parents and then a parade out to the busses. I now have a middle schooler,yikes....and DD starts Kindergarten in August too.
So we will go out to eat tonight,DS wants ribs, yummy.
Then it's roasting marshmellows over our firepit with the neighbors
I agree with 'Hata that you have to have a destination for the flattened boxes and packing materials and build clean up into whatever time you allot for unpacking.
Glad you have AC! Ours in churning out the frigid air right now. I don't like it that much, but DH can't stand humid heat, so I try to be tolerant.
My big church project finally wrapped up Sunday, I did a loose string Monday, and then had 2 "get-em-in-before-everyone-leaves-for-summer" meetings Monday and last night. Phew! My chair and I (I'm co-chair of the main leadership body at our parish) are ready to take a big break! Like a whole month . . .
(On a totally unrelated note, one plank in our pastoral plan is to hold a discussion of the role of women in the Catholic church. But standing up in front of the church on Pentecost, after all the Eucharistic ministers had been women, almost all the new council members were women, all the staff is women . . . I almost added, "And next year we're going to have a discussion on the role of men in the church! Where are they?!")
Sounds like almost everyone is enjoying the summer weather. Jenny, 104 just hurts to think about, even with a dry heat. Days like that we go into serious survivial mode.
Congratulations to your new middle schooler Heidi.
And congratulations to you, Shaun, on getting your project finished!
TADA:
-finished unpacking the boxes in the kitchen (I actually already had a destination for all the unpacked packing material, I just needed someone to set my head straight about everything else)
-a load of laundry washed, dried, folded and put away
-some cleaning of the kitchen (though not nearly enough!)
-started crocheting a dishtowel which will, eventually, be a Christmas or Chanukah gift for someone or other
-took out trash
Our Mid-hi starts in 5th grade. So DD9 only has one year left in elementary! OMG! I can't believe that!!
Been a busy couple of days here. I have a 7th grader staying with me for a couple of days while her parents and sister went out of town. She just didn't want to go. Been a big help with the baby! I was able to not only mow the grass by myself yesterday, but got the weedeater out and trimmed it all up as well! Tuesday I voted (and our guy won! yay!).
I'm trying to keep my sink shiny and kitchen clean. I had 4 big bags of stuff to donate/resell, but the place had closed early due to sickness. I'm upset about 3 of those bags. They are my maternity clothes and I'm having a hard time letting them go! LOL! I did save back my most favorite shirt from all 4 pregnancies. Still, I'm sad.
Drew has his 6 month checkup today. We have a ball game I must coach tonight. Girls are then staying the night at Grammie's.
I am shining my sink! I have also cleaned the kitchen and one bathroom I gave a good once over! Not a bad start for me, anyway. My ds wants some attention now!

cleaned much of the bed of my truck. and let me tell ya, it was MESSY!!! I tend to throw my coke cups from fast food places back there. And the dog/cats tear up the trash bags and it gets everywhere. So it was just a mess. I got nearly 2 big trash bags bagged up. Some other time I'll get it swept out and hosed off back there.
I also made my niece's birthday present (embroidered her name on a canvas tote bag and added some ribbons and stuff. Looks cool! For a 1 year old! LOL!)
Waiting for MIL to come home with my dds. I've been trying to call for an hour and no answer, and she doesn't have a cell phone. I'm a little ticked that I can't get them. They didn't say anything about going anywhere, and they only live 10 minutes from here. So where are they!? (I don't like not being in touch with my children. I even have our teacher's cell phone numbers programmed in my cell for field trips).
I'm re-reading Sink Refections and can't wait to get started on some ideas! I really want to redo my old control journal, among other things.
there are a few general notions that I follow for unpacking, don't know how far along you are so I don't know if they apply, but here it is:
Bathrooms and the kitchen are obviously the first priority. Unpack those first.
Next are the children's rooms. They settle in so much better if their rooms done up as quickly as possible. Especially if they're young.
Do one area at a time or for a couple of days in a row at least before moving on to another area.
Decide in advance where you are going to put the empty boxes and wrapping materials as you empty them so you consolidate the boxes and bubble wrap and packing peanuts (oh, my!) before they take over a corner or two in every room.
DH always collapsed the boxes right away for me and stored them in the attic or on a shelf in the basement or garage, whatever we had handy. Packing peanuts get put into large trashbags and stored similarly.
Last bit of advice...don't just unpack something somewhere it doesn't quite belong and think, "I'll put it where it belongs later when I have more time" because you'll never have more time. Two years later you'll be cursing yourself as you dig stuff out of inconvienient places for the umpteenth time.
