Home Sweet Home

Ahhhh. We did it. We finally made an offer on a home in South Bend, IN. They have accepted. We're happy and in the process of signing our lives away. I'm sorta weirded out by how well things are going, in fact, I feel sorta like SOMETHING should go wrong. Maybe it will. Well, I guess also, today, we found out our car needed repairs, but I meant with the whole closing thing.
What is all y'alls opinion on the radon testing? Is it a big problem in older homes?

I don't know much about it
But it wouldn't hurt.
I think it depends on the area or "zone"
You can find out from your state radon office or from the EPA whether the area you're moving to is a high, moderate, or low "radon potential zone". You can also test the house yourself once you move in. Several different websites offer DIY test kits. I think if radon is detected all you have to do is install a fan to vent the air under your house?
If you do find radon and install a fan, I'd still look into the radon alarms that you can buy, like smoke alarms, that will go off if the radon levels get too high. Don't know if they're very effective, but it's worth looking into.
Don't know how helpful that is, but congratulations on your new home!!! You must show a few pics when you get the chance!
